Waiting to cross Colyton Rd as a pedestrian to go to the park takes SOOO long. Most people even with small children just jaywalk and it sets a very bad example. As a driver I think they're fine.

WEll, no.. if there was some sort of fraud/theft going on with someone pocketing the cash, the tills WOULD balance, wouldn't they? I had a dispute with a shop once over a ?20/?10 note and they stuck to their story and said the tills balanced, but I knew for a fact I'd used a ?20, as the ?20 was all I had. They did refund me, though.

I found that getting rid of the convenience foods we used to get, I can get raw ingredients (organic) for the same price.. am about to start weaning babies so it's organic city round here, for a while at least!

I see Asda are now delivering locally. I have moved my weekly delivery to abel and cole and have a comepletely different basket of food.. organic veg box etc... nice to cut down on convenoence foods and packaging. Will try tesco or asda for fortnightly delivery of stuff like loo roll and washing powder.

Forest Hill Road Coffee Shop - Now Open
Fuschia replied to demery's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Have now had the chance to try this out a couple of times, and had rather mixed experiences. The first time, the lady serving was very blonde (the Finnish one?) and I had no problems... lovely scrambled egg too. Went back again, this time the woman serving was darker.. and I stood at the counter for 10 minutes while she chatted with the cook and went back and forth from the kitchen a few times without even acknowledging me.. I HATE that in shops and cafes, surely they should say hello, be with you in a moment? Or maybe even take your order and THEN go and do whatever it was. So I was feeling a bit slighted when I sat down, and had already wasted 10 minutes of the 45 minutes I had available... but then no food (or even my cup of tea!) arrived for another 25 minutes. The place wasn't that busy, either. I saw a woman who had been there even before I went in, was looking at her watch and it must have been at least 20 mins before she was served too, and she was only having a coffee. Once I'd finished my food, I quite fancied another cuppa but didn't bother asking as I knew I couldn't wait around. Shame... not sure why they're like that? So nice food, nice ambience, but another place where they seem to run on their own clock, I fear, and a bit lacking in terms of basic manners. -
SimonM Wrote:> I thought though that Sainbury's home delivery > base was somewhere in the Midlands, or at any rate > outside London, and had no connections with local > branches? You never see the home delivery vans > parked around DKH do you? No it used to be Sydenham, is now DKH, or at least that's what Sainsburys say! Have switched most lof my order to abel and cole and will try getting the other stuff from Tescos. It works out the same p/w as Sainsburys ( though overall fewer convenience foods, more organic, more need to cook) and the Tescos vouchers are more useful (? for ?1 on attractions) If that's no good, I'll try Ocado, which i hear good things about, but couldn't find on their site a few things I do get from supermarkets...
-
Does anyone else have problems with this? When it came via Sydenham there were endless problems of late deliveries, missing items, damaged items, short life... now they've moved to Dulwich it's no better so I am now going to try Tescos... I did call Sainsburys to tell them why I'm leaving. Just had enough of consistently poor service, week after week... yet they have increased their delivery fees!

How about applying for an Awards for All grant? i could help if necessary. http://www.awardsforall.org.uk/england/whatwewillfund.html Could be used to provide more free stuff like a ferris wheel or balloon.. would probably need to emphasise "health or environmental" themes. -

I called dialacab from Vauxhall station where there is a sign at the taxi rank. Wanted to pay cash.. they won't come out if you only have cash, you need to book in advance with a credit card. Despite the fact I was 5m pregnant with twins and virtually in tears, they wouldn't send anyone. In the end, having waited for 30 mins and not been able to flag down a cab, I had to call a minicab from ED to come out and get me.

When I lived in Waltham Forest it was a CPZ. I had a resident's permit which came with a sticky back holder. One time, in very hot weather, the sticky bit failed and it fell off my windscreen. I got a ticket, and lost my appeal, as I was deemed to have failed to display the permit. The fact I HAD a permit (and had had one for 5 years) was not a defence, nor was my claim that it was their sticky back holder that had caused the problem. If you need to display in a certain way, the council can have you for faiing to do so!

I must say, there have been quite a few water failures since I've lived in ED - I guess it's the ancient system here in London. It's always a bit scary when our electricity or water fails - just think we can't even run the dishwasher! Makes me think of some of my travels and countries where there isn't clean tap water available at all. We do rather take it for granted, don't we? Then think about if we were reduced to using water from a river.. then think about the countries where Nestle pushes baby formula on the populace .. and the number of babies who die as a result :-(

It's off again now. Luckily we have a stock of cheap bottled water for such contingencies.. plus the paddling pool happens to be full atm!
