I use all the above. Maybe 3-4 times I month a get a black cab in to town or City Airport in the morning rush hour (via Hailo). Why? Quickest as can use bus lanes. Once a week I'll get an Uber back from drinking in town. Why? Cheapest and time isn't an issue, although I'm usually in a car within five minutes of ordering one. Once a month or so I'll get a minicab to Gatwick. Why? Cheapest and traffic not so much of an issue. So for me they can all co exist as they offer different benefits but the one in peril is the black cab. Yes they do the knowledge but that's no longer a real competitive advantage, my phone can do that and has access to the traffic flows as well.. You get any cabbie on this and they'll complain it's unfair competition but it's not, it's just a changing world and they have to offer something to justify their fee and all they have at the moment is the use of bus lanes, and the ability to be flagged down. Given you're never more than five minutes from an Uber (in town) that latter is disappearing as an advantage, so they defend their right to use bus lanes to the death. Seems to me they need to find some other advantage or their days are numbered. To go back to the question of quite how come their views have such influence... I don't know. Seems daft to me. I should point out I am a man and I appreciate the security aspect may make a woman potentially travelling alone view this market differently.

Wetherspoons is apparently the 5th most popular breakfast destination. http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/mar/17/why-are-people-flocking-to-wetherspoons-for-breakfast

Bet your neighbours love you. You know, the residents.

I paid the most I've ever paid today for a haircut which is essentially a number two clip with tidying round the edges with a razor. Brilliantly though the Turkish Barber shop not only provided the full hot towels shoulder arms and hand massage, neck rub, flamed the ears, and a bottle of Efes all for the price, but they had a bar with a range of optics at the back of the shop. Just by Old Street and not cheap but fun.

The news in the morning (Exhibit A, Today on Radio 4) telling me what politicians will be saying today. The news is supposed to tell me what's happened in the world rather than be part of the political spin process. IMHO.

You want a Vi-Spring mattress you do, no question. http://www.vispring.co.uk/ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/interiors/9038477/And-so-to-bed-but-which-one.html Outstanding service too. We ordered a king size in error (should have been Euro king size) and they made us a new one and collected the old without question, even though it was our fault. Expensive but worth it.

Sorry to be black and white here, but my understanding of the Highway Code is that you committed the offence and were fined. How is it unfair?

Sounds like they're doing the job on the bus lanes then ;-) Once the parkers get the message they can go home!

If a camera is stuck on a pole people then I'd be willing to bet people learn it's there, behave for that stretch, and then just go back in the bus lane. They certainly do for speed cameras. The idea of the cctv car seems to me to be to catch lots of people, keep them on their toes as they could get caught anywhere, and thus leave the lane freer for buses. This is a good thing surely? The whole engine running thing is a sideshow. We've had it explained the engine is running to power the equipment, and even then a Smart car is going to have to run for a good while to match the emmissions of a bus stuck for even a minute behind a car that shouldn't be in a bus lane I'd have thought.

Thanks, will check it and TED out. Any more welcome.

True, but would they catch as many people in bus lanes?

Possibly a strange request. It's World Earth Day next week and I have been asked to find a short, 10-15 minute, English language video which could be shown in offices all over Europe to reinforce the message of environmental awareness and concern. The audience is typically people in their twenties. I've started going through youtube but it occured to me there may be some people on here with some ideas on this and recommendations, I'm starting from scratch. Any recommendations? thanks

I'll have a little bet with you that the council have read the label though.

Can anybody help with transferring contacts between Android phones?

Exactly. In contacts hit the menu button (usually 3 dots) > settings > contacts > contacts to display -
Every time I see Parking For Bicycles I think of a Two Ronnies sketch. So not that one then.

I'd be happy to have one on our street. As an occasional cyclist the actual storage of my bike is a key factor in restricting my use, dragging it through the house from its home in the back garden.. Surely the thing could look a bit more stylish though? From the picture it looks awful. Is there scope for a design competition in the Borough or something around a standard frame? I remember when the recycle bins came in there were a few voices worrying about the colour and no one really addressed it - now the whole Borough is covered with bright blue bins which ain't pretty. If we're going to have lots of these, which seems inevitable in the long run, at least we should try to make them look good.

On a very random mix this morning Laid Back - Bakerman. Matched my mood at the time perfectly.
