If guns were freely available to fine upstanding citizens such as us, like they are in America, I think i probably would have shot a good few of my fellow men by now. I may have regretted it somewhat afterwards when trying to explain it to the Judge, but I can think of a few people who would be six feet under if someone had unwisely allowed me to own a gun!

They are talking about him on Radio 4 right now.

Louisa, can I suggest a sight flaw in your plan - if you did return home after sunning yourself in Spain and decided to strong arm/beat up/shoot the offending squatters, apart from being liable to be arrested for your criminal actions, the people you just strong armed/beat up/shot know where you live, so unless you were planning on keeping your heavies on permanent retainer, I think you may end up with some form of payback.

When I moved to ED 2 yrs ago I felt naked and vulnerable without my metal grilles and gate potecting my place and was going to take them down from my old place and put them up on my ED place - but the neighbours said there is hardly any trouble here. I haven't had any problems so far, but I am wondering if ED will end up looking like the prison-block-looking estate where I used to live.

Agree with Honk - I was a squatter in the 80's and am a fine upstanding citizen now. Also re: crminal damage - they have to catch you at it or how do they know if it was the person squatting who did it, or someone else before the said squatter discoveed the empty and accessable property?

He was about 6'5 and solid muscle! Not sure if the two fat old guards could have had him if he'd decided to be naughty - or even been quick enough to have caught him in the act of anything bad he'd decided to do. He was rude and arrogant to my (male) boss too - which really makes you want to help a chap with his case, doesn't it?

This thread made me laugh a bit and as a woman who often wanders around day dreaming alone at all hours of the night and day, I admit I may not have been quite so worried about some over enthusiastic guy running after me with a suitcase to complement my boots - unless the suitcase was particularly large and he was waving a stun gun or something. So just because I know you all love salacious stories I thought I'd tell you of my own rather scary experience last week when I was on a prison visit in Pentonville to get initial instructions from a mild mannered young client. My boss was also on a visit to the same prison and was interviewing a huge, body builder type guy in the interview room opposite mine they have big windows so everyone can see everyone else in their interview rooms). After we had both finished our interviews, I was explaining to my client what I was going to do next on his behalf as my boss walked down the corridor and around the corner to where the guards were sitting. I turned around to open the door to leave the interview room when my boss's huge client opened and leaned through the door with an excited glint in his eyes. "you look hot babes (he must have been in for a long time!) let me have your number". I looked around for back-up and saw all the other interview rooms were empty and no-one else was in the corridor. I (outwardly) calmly gathered my stuff and exclaimed "sorry mate, I'm engaged to be married". Then stepped towards him as he was blocking the door and said "excuse me, I need to get back to my office now" and amazingly this scary looking wild eyed dude stepped to the side as I glided past him and down the corridor, round the corner to the safety of other people! Once the threat had passed, I told myself I'd probably over-reacted and he was maybe just beeing cheeky (and desperate), until my boss informed me that he was in for false imprisonment and beating up his girlfriend! Lovey!

How do you percieve East Dulwich?

What I think might be interesting is to see how quick the demographics change as the recession bites and those who can head for the 'burbs to escape the inevitable rise in crime. -
What about a one state solution with equality and equal rights to all the residents, Arab and Jewish? If they get proper power sharing and access to resources within the one state - why couldn't that work? Not all Pelestinians or Isrealis want a divided country, some want a one state solution. Sorry for using Wikipedia as a source - I'm tired and can't be arsed having a proper look for anything better!

One more thing - don't judge what Jesus said or stood for, by the man made churches who claim to follow him, many of them follow nothing but themselves. And Hugs - There are some newer versions of the bible that have gone back to the original scrolls to try to ensure they are as accurate as possible to what was originally written. Also apparently the dead sea scrolls were from a period before Jesus' ministry, but are good for showing the Jewish mindset that he was born into. Sorry that was three more things.

What really gets me with all this is how aggressive people are about religion. What makes any of you think you have the answers if you don't challenge your own views? You criticise Bizzy for making assumptions and then assume he doesn't question his faith. Some of you are so reactiionary to the very notion of religion even as an interesting subject to study, that it makes me think that you are being as dogmatic as some of the fervent, creationists you criticise. Some of you are entrenched and very closed minded so why would you expect to have reached any conclusions about this subject that are worth listening to? How can anyone make balanced judgements from such a dogmatic viewpoint as that? I thought I knew it was all a load of old wank, until I started reading Jesus's words and the resonance with which his words spoke to me was amazing. I went through the same reactions as some of you, thinking that even if it's written by man and not inspired by God, it's a good read and a decent set of rules to try to live your life by. But the more I delved and studied, the more I began to feel that this couldn't have been written by man alone. There is something very different about Jesus and I am interested in finding out more. I want to also find out more about other religions to compare whether they are all like this, or if he is unique and so far he's still standing way higher than anyone else from any other religion I've looked at - but that also needs more study. I think all of you should stop assuming that you know everything and you might just learn something.

Apparently the Greek influence was still really strong despite the Roman rule as it had snob appeal and all the 'refined' types were well into doing things the Greek way. The devout Jews of the time used to get the hump with jews who became Helenized as it was seen as acting like the Gentilles. Or so I've read recently.

Not that the CoE ever uses it's huge financial reserves to blackmail anyone in it's ranks, of course! I'm not really into divisions and taking sides. I'm just happy that courses offering further insight into Jesus are available.

Wouldn't be secret if I told you!

If that is their aim - I think they are failing miserably - all us impoverished particpants didn't pay a penny and got a lovely tasty meal too. If they start asking for my bank account details I'll let you know, but so far all I saw were a load of people who are excited about Jesus and want to share what excites them. Pretty normal if you ask me.

I will translate and write > down in man made Greek to save time > Disciple: Brilliant. Thanks The thing is, a lot of what we consider to be accepted historical accounts of stuff from 2000 years ago was written a couple of hundreds of years after the event and if any eyewitness to something wasn't a learned scholar, this would be the normal way of doing things. Palestine of 2000 yrs ago was still under enormous Greek influence and so most writing was done in Greek at that time. Some people wrote in latin, but most wrote in Greek.
