Something twice as high as the Shard. Made of concrete. With a steam train riding up the outside of the building at a 1:10 gradient. And they say that this was some golden age?! They'd all been sniffing glue.

What's Happing with Empty Shop Corner of Champion Grove?
david_carnell replied to abigailmarr's topic in The Lounge
The other interesting empty shop is the old printers on Forest Hill Road. Although there are signs of life in the upstairs property. It's like a little foolscap time capsule. -
There's a capacity in Ireland for more drink?

Saw that this morning too, Ted. V funny. Especially Woman's Hour. "Modern feminism and shoes. No, wait, just feminism. And shoes."

So to summarise, he's not behind at school (in fact is performing ahead of most of his peers) and already has three extra curricular activities that he enjoys and is progressing well at. He's SEVEN. Perhaps just let him enjoy being seven. It sounds like he has plenty to do without further tuition. Let him doing nothing. Let him be bored. Let him use his imagination. That's what seven year olds are meant to do isn't it? Yes, life does get tough later on. All the more reason to let him enjoy his childhood. And if you feel he must do something for more confidence then why not a group activity like scouts or woodcraft folk? He's likely to learn more there about confidence and teamwork than in any classroom. -
I'm afraid I also join the chorus of opinion in the "useful but ugly" category. A beautiful brick built station in an Italiante style ruined by the we-can't-think-of-anything-else metal and glass school of architecture.

As an adendum to that last thought, I had a radical idea the other day. Would the Lions team be more successful if each unit of players was from the same country? So, an all Welsh front row; English locks; Welsh back row; Irish half backs; Welsh centres; Scots fullback and wings etc? Would the continuity of play make up for perhaps not having the best player in each position?
-
Halfpenny seems to have nailed down fullback and I can't see anyone budging North from the wing either. Centre combo is up for grabs I reckon though BOD and Tuilagi look favourites. Do you pair Sexton with his Irish scrum-half, Murray, or the better player in Phillips?

Three motorbikes (2 scooters and a regular bike) have been burnt out on the corner of Nutbrook and Adys just north of Goose Green. They are completely destroyed, with severe damage to the road and to the house they were in front of. This is a serious crime so if anyone has info, do go to the police. Anyone who parks their motorbike on the road in front of their house should be extra vigilent in the meantime. Hope no one was injured or hurt. I live just round the corner but didn't hear any fire crews so not sure what the exact circumstances are.

DaveR - the problem with that approach is that it is almost impossible to reverse the reforms that are being made. So when, and if, they fail there isn't a way of going back to the older, better, system.

You say 2lbs isn't a big deal yet boxers routinely struggle to make the weight. And the consequences can be serious. Maybe they know something we don't?

Ted, have you married Louisa in a secret ceremony somewhere in Bromley?

Dunno Jezza - it's a very smart tactic from Floyd. He's up against a guy over 10 years and 50 rounds younger than he is. Someone who is significantly bigger than he is. Someone who relies on power punching and who already has suspect stamina. What better way to negate the power and capitalise on poor stamina than making the guy weight drain. Alvarez will take because it's the biggest fight and pay day he'll ever have. Mayweather knows exactly what he's doing.

This is the new kid on the block Quidsy: http://peckhamrefreshment.com/ Make sure to wear your skinniest jeans and something ironic. You'll love it. If you don't fancy Begging Bowl, Ganapati is just around the corner or, if a short walk is ok, then the South London Gallery does lovely food and I think is open late on Fridays.

They are from No22 in Herne Hill - the lovely tapas restaurant. Chris, the owner, also does outside catering and has been a fixture and these fetes for some years. Jolly tasty.

Meanwhile, it a little noticed bout on May 18th, probably pound4pound the hardest hitter in boxing, Lucas Matthysee, KO'd Lamont Peterson (of whupping Amir Khan fame) to take his record to 37 and 2 with 33KOs. Given his two losses were on points and very controversial this guy is seriously good. He'll face Danny Garcia next for the WBC (and I think IBF belts) - should be an absolute belter.

I've been watching some highlights of Alvarez. He's clearly heavy-handed and reminds me a little of Duran. He bobs and weaves well in defence. His footwork is terrible though and the big right hook comes from miles away because of this. I'm not sure he even should have got the decision against Trout. Mayweather will dance around him for 12 rounds for a points victory. A weight-drained and tired Alvarez will tire after 5 rounds and won't get anywhere near him. The poor footwork will mean he gets peppered by the fast hands of PBF. I think it'll look much like the Hatton Mayweather fight of 2007. A fighter desperate for a tear up, trying to land heavy blows against the consumate boxer slipping and sliding out of the way. Reckon this will be a unanimous decision for PBF at the end of 12.

Ivy House share issue:
david_carnell replied to IvyHouseCommunityPub's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
DJKQ in not-really-knowing-what-she's-talking-about shocker. The idea that running, essentially a housing estate community centre, somehow gives you stunning insight and business knowledge of running a pub is laughable. Compared to those investing time and money into the business, who will have poured over finances for months, calculating revenues in consultation with many people who actually know the industry, it's insulting that you feel in a place to offer anything more than a good luck pat on the back before retiring to wish them ill in private. Not for the first time, in the face of a mass of evidence to the contrary, your pernicious pessimism goes into overload. Sometimes, instead, do us all a favour and go and have a cup of tea. -
Yeah, I read about this. Some guy called Miles Dyson and his company Cyberdyne? Perfect flying record. But when it becomes self-aware...
