I know that all the very local figures need to be taken with a hefty pinch of salt but it's encouraging to see that East Dulwich is now down to double figures of cases per 100k, rolling 7 day rate. On the 31st December that number was 911. Now it's 58. Southwark average is 179, nationally is 199.

@malumbu re: blue lights, this is from last Sunday's Telegraph One report submitted to Southwark Council highlights how paramedics responding to 999 calls repeatedly encountered bollards and planters, often after discovering satellite navigation systems were not keeping up to date with new road closures. A London Ambulance Service emergency planning officer told how there were five incidents in as many days around just a few newly closed streets in Dulwich when paramedics were held up while responding to 999 calls. On Aug 29 last year there was a ?seven-minute delay reaching a cyclist laying on the road in the pouring rain due to [a] closure on Calton Avenue, and needed to divert around the closure?, the officer wrote. The following day, a crew was delayed 10 minutes due to the creation of another ?low traffic neighbourhood?. On Sept 3, there were three separate incidents also around Calton Avenue. The first was a 10-minute delay in reaching a patient due to road ?closures plus traffic congestion locally?, another resulted in a ?significant delay?. However, one caused a ?long detour? because of barriers on Calton Road which meant a six-minute hold-up in reaching a CAT 1 ? or critically ill ? patient.? Councillor Catherine Rose, Southwark?s cabinet member for roads, said fortnightly meetings with emergency services meant they had ?developed the right local solutions? to road closures, including introducing automatic number plate recognition cameras to allow ambulances access but fine motorists who ignore road closed signs. She added: ?The Ambulance Service has raised Calton Avenue with us and we are actively working with them and TfL, to identify a solution.?

Very happy to recommend Rob. Arranged for him to fix a small leak on the mains feed to our boiler. Completed quickly with no fuss. Would definitely use again.

Road trip San Fran to LA to San Fran - any advice or recommendations??
ed_pete replied to ninbi's topic in The Lounge
Did LA to SF many years ago. It was a great trip but the PCH was blocked by a landslide and we had to take a very scary diversion through the hills on some quite precipitous tracks. Three things I remember - staying in the the slightly odd town of Solvang which is historically Danish and eating at the diner featured in the film Sideways (one of my favourites), the aquarium at Monterey and cycling (with two young children) across the Golden Gate to Sausalito and ferrying back across the bay. -

Looks like Brockley Market were taking it seriously - this is from their Twitter feed: The Mayor of London along with Government guidelines state people must STAY HOME and only go out for ESSENTIAL?S including FOOD SHOPPING. Brockley Market will be open today for your ESSENTIAL FOOD & DRINK PRODUCE SHOP ONLY (No Street /Hot Food options will be at the market this week unfortunately). The key government message is ?hands, space, face?. So all customers must wear a face covering (where possible) and keep their distance & follow current ?COVID? rules. Brockley Market?s message is COME, SHOP, LEAVE. All food and drink purchased must be taken away & consumed OFF SITE. No meeting up or mingling please - we ask for a maximum of 1 or 2 members per household to visit for your weekly ESSENTIAL shop. We will be limiting the number of customers into the market, so you may have to be patient & queue to enter the market. It will be a tough few months, but if we all follow the rules, then we hope to remain open & will see a brighter and more normal spring and summer at the market.

IMO it was always likely to be residential or a business. The company behind the planning permission is NewCore who have other properties in London leased to nurseries in their portfolio. https://www.newcorecapital.com/ Re: traffic I very much doubt with it being so large that all the potential users will be walking or cycling. Also wonder where the staff will come from, let's face it early years education probably doesn't pay enough to live in ED these days.

Looks like someone is wanting to convert the old Constitutional Club on EDG into another nursery. Looks to be unconnected with the existing one next door. Much larger I would guess - plans show capacity for over 150 children (babies and toddlers). Seems like there are two related applications: 20/AP/3460 and 20/AP/3461 Planning decision hasn't been made yet - comments so far seem generally against. https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?previousCaseType=Property&keyVal=QKD0P6KBJOO00&previousCaseNumber=PP11WQ00DT02J&previousCaseUprn=200003443806&activeTab=summary&previousKeyVal=PP11WQ00DT02K https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?previousCaseType=Application&keyVal=QKD0PMKBJOP00&previousCaseNumber=20%2FAP%2F3460&activeTab=summary&previousKeyVal=QKD0P6KBJOO00

You may have worked this out already and sorry I can't recommend any specific product but make sure you're looking for a Bluetooth device that can transmit. The Alexa is just acting as a Bluetooth (receiving) speaker in this case. Unlikely that you will be able to play back to both rooms simultaneously I would have thought as whatever is plugged into your old stereo is likely to mute the speakers.

Bob, I take it you're a very recent convert to being a vegetarian given that you were eating "pate" a few weeks ago and you're a big fan of William Rose. And Herefordshire, hmm, coincidence that they're in Tier 1 now?

Look I know, I know, but it is really appropriate to hold carol singing event complete with brass band on Elsie Road this evening when London has entered Tier 3 this week and the latest daily figures show 28,000 new cases nationally ?

Lloyds North Cross Road - Flu Shots
ed_pete replied to beansprout's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
.. And if your over 50 then the Government are handing them out for free this year. Irony is, I expect Flu cases will be massively down this winter due the behaviours most are following due to Covid. -

Disruptive building work during the pandemic
ed_pete replied to Harmlessmischief's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I sympathise with you but I fear these is not much that can be done and the level of disruption will really depend on the quality of the builders your neighbour has employed. Our neighbours have been undertaking significant works since May, converting the house into flats. The disruption was/is so bad I convinced my employer to allow me back in the office and I have been working here since early August. My daughter is still working from home and although most of the external works are completed they can still be extremely disruptive and rude. The builders have no respect for the fact that many people in the surrounding properties are WfH. I would advise that you have contact details for (a) your neighbour (we didn't as the building owners didn't live there), (b) the building company and © the council's environmental health dept. If your neighbour is not present when the works start then I would recommend setting the ground rules early in terms of noise and working hours. I have heard of the council acting as an arbitration service to ensure that the builders only work the hours they are supposed to - especially at weekends and adhere to the rules regarding noise - 2 hours on, 2 off. Yep fair enough there's plenty of rule breakers out there but I expect the impact is low so long as they are in the open air. And we should celebrate the fact that East Dulwich is only at 46.7 (per 100k) as of 19/11. https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map

Hmmm whilst I know this is true in some respects I find it remarkable given the abuse of the rules. There's three or four cafes on the OKR between the Bricklayers Arms flyover and the Tesco's that have always had groups of men outside socialising whilst drinking coffee (I assume) early evening. Come the heightened restrictions, they're still there but the tables and chairs have been taken away...until now. Tonight I spotted a couple of them have gotten fed up with standing up so have brought camping chairs along instead. Similar picture in Peckham at the cafe opposite Lidl. Same group of men hanging about there on a regular basis as there was before. Some people are just not going to change their behaviour. One wonders how bad things would have to get before they did.

Went to JS this afternoon around 2:30 - no queue - walked straight in. Didn't get the feeling there was any issues really.

It?s not quite right. The right filter is for those turning right from Dulwich Village onto East Dulwich Grove, not HML. They have also put in a cycle lane on the left using some of the width, which means it?s not possible for one car to head straight on to Red Post Hill whilst another turns right onto EDG.

P?t?. Pate is something quite different.
