  1. Hi - I'm guessing that you've happened upon this forum because of the word "Dulwich" in the title. DCPS / Gallery Road is in Dulwich Village, which as a neighbourhood very close to East Duwlich but it is a different area. The closest station to DCPS/Gallery Road is West Dulwich however this is not on a line to London Bridge, trains go to Victoria. You could change one station down the line (Herne Hill) and go to Blackfriars/Farringdon but you might consider that too faffy. For London Bridge via rail then you're better off looking for places not too far from North Dulwich station. Unfortunately for you this is at the northern end of Dulwich Village whereas DCPS is at the southern end. This means dropping your son at DCPS then heading to the station is going to be a long walk (I'm guessing about 15 mins walking from DCPS to North Dulwich). In terms of rentals I'd suggest that you contact the numerous estate agents in Dulwich Village and see what they have in your price range. They are: Hamptons, Harvey & Wheeler, Spencer Kenedy, Pedders, Kinleigh Folkyard and Hayward. Hope that helps.
  2. James - I live in Village Ward, very close to the hospital. I'd be happy to answer the Dulwich Hospital Site survey http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DHNVXR2 but would have liked some context. Is the presumption that the hospital is closed completely and some/all of the existing buildings demolished ?
  3. Three people telling other forumites to move and leave this thread alone. Surely the best way to let the thread die is not to contribute at all. If you feel it's no longer relevant to this section then ask the Administrator to move it but leave others that still want to discuss aspects of this highly charged issue alone.
  4. Peckhamboy - no one is forcing you read or contribute to this thread are they ? What right have you to say what is and isn't discussed ? Gerrymandering is a serious business, tantamount to political corruption in my view - remember Homes for Votes and Shirley Porter ? The eighteen councillors that were consulted about the proposed zone and voted on the report may be guilty of many things but personally I don't believe that any of are guilty of Gerrymandering. History is written by the winners and in this case I don't think that one of the winners - Giles - has got it right.
  5. @Penguin68 I see. So I am right in thinking that although you may agree with Giles (gsirett) on a number of other things regarding the CPZ issue, you don't agree that the LD councillors were responsible for Gerrymandering ?
  6. Penguin68 - thanks for your interpretation of Giles's statement. I was under the impression that Southwark Council officers had determined the CPZ proposed roads, not the three LD councillors to who Giles referred.
  7. Giles - I was unsure what Gerrymandering is, so I Googled it and it seems to be about altering electoral boundaries to gain a favourable outcome for the ruling political party. I'm not sure how introducing a CPZ constitutes altering electoral boundaries - can you explain how James Barber has done this or is there an alternative meaning ?
  8. Hear, hear - and I think puzzled should apologise and delete his/her post.
  9. If you are implying that only children can be bullied then I think you are wrong. Anyone can be bullied - either physically or electronically - regardless of their age.
  10. Brian Green is alive and well and does indeed still run the Art Stationers/Toy Shop in Dulwich Village, as well as being an expert local historian. He is also the news editor of the Dulwich Society Newsletter
  11. Valid until 13th Feb but not on Saturdays. http://www.vouchercodes.co.uk/offer/carluccios-2-for-1-jan12/ Branches in Smithfield, Spitalfields, Covent Garden and elsewhere
  12. I see a planning application (11/AP/3488) has been sought to turn the old car sales place into a Vet's, though I'm not sure if permission has been granted yet.
  13. AKA 34 East Dulwich Grove. There's planning application (11/AP/3865) that proposing to knock down the existing building and rebuild the property as 2 x 2-bed and 3 x 1 bed flats. Parking for two cars only which will put additional pressure on the already crowed Elsie Road. Consultation period ends on 14/01/2012.
  14. Ahh I see. I wonder if the numbers in Glengarry are similarly affected. I do wish that road was still in existance - it would half my journey time to LL and back.
  15. I'm not in favour of unnecessary signage but that one is in a very poor position and I don't understand what it's meant to achieve. So I can legally cycle from the road onto the pavement but then what ? Presumably if I were to turn left and cycle on the pavement along Grove Vale this would contravene the Highway Code. And how should I exit from this shared pavement onto Grove Vale legally ? Across the raised bit that is there for traffic turning in off Grove Vale ? Surely that would be illegal (and potentially hazardous). So I am supposed to dismount where the pavement reaches the road and wheel it across (if I am turning right) ? If so then what's the point of the shared pavement ? I might as well just dismount at that point that Coplestone/Oglander meets the pavement and wheel it across from there. The whole thing just doesn't seem thought through to me. There should be a dropped kerb to allow cyclists out and a pavement marking to indicate that cyclists are allowed to cycle across. Something like the one at the junction of Village Way and Halfmoon Lane is a good example.
  16. In simple terms the "heave" theory is dependant on what was there first - the tree or the building. If the building is old than the tree then removing it should, over time return the soil to its original level of dessication (other factors not withsanding) and therefore close the cracks. If the tree is older than the building then removal can cause real "heave" which will result in stresses on the buildings foundations and cracking in a different manner.

James - I can't really see the point of this unless cyclists are legally allowed to exit onto Grove Vale. Why else would you want to travel south on Coplestone Road ? Unjoined-up thinking in my view.
  18. Several threads on buildings insurance and subsidence in the past - you may find something useful here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,28751,28868#msg-28868 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,241324,241369#msg-241369 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,168763,168981#msg-168981 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,182337,182385#msg-182385
  19. I'm probably too old for twitter but why would you want to follow anyone ? Doesn't it just shout look at me, look at me. Lead don't follow.
  20. Again don't really see how this is East Dulwich related however ?PoP?s advice is spot on. Had the same problem myself and a variable attenuator sorted it for me.
  21. Surely this is more Lounge suited, apart from being overtly middle class I'm not sure what it's specifically got to do with East Dulwich.
  22. Has anyone ever noticed the apparent anomaly in the house numbering on Melborne Grove ? The houses on the right as you head south go 80, 82, 82A, 84A, 84... I could understand this if 82A and 84A looked as if they were built at some later date but they look exactly the same as the houses either side and of a similar age. I can only conclude that they must have been built at a later date on some piece of land that was previously occupied by something else. Any local historians care to shed some light ?
  23. Yeah road is closed between the crossroads with Melborne Grove and Townley Road/Greendale though access is allowed at this end to Hilsboro etc. Second accident I've seen near the Melborne Road/East Dulwich Grove junction in a matter of a couple of weeks, though the other one didn't look as severe.
