I went in 1990 too for the first time. went for 2 nights and did not take anything with me! Didn't cross my young and carefree mind that I might need say, a tent or a change of clothes yuk. don't think I slept much, can't really remember.

  19. Alan Dale - I do hope you would not be casting aspersions.
  20. Any one see the dispatches programme the other night? It was about how doctors are predicting a massive explosion (no pun intended) in liver disease over the next decade, due to all the people who drink several glasses of wine a night at home. I didn't watch it, too worried about the state of my own liver after a decade of doing exactly that! Driven to it - to answer the original thread - by motherhood mainly. Gagging for a drink by 6pm. (Haven't had one yet this week, turning over new leaf, roll on Friday)
  21. Sainsbury's closing today - have to be somewhere on LL
  22. I live right next to Alleyns and JAGS and pretty close to the Charter with probably a combined population of about 2500 kids, if not more. Yes there is the 'mum scum' as we like to call them in our house, ramming their 4x4's up and down the street, parking atrociously (gives us something to laugh at) but it's only for about 15 mins twice a day and apart from that I have absolutely no complaints, no problems with the kids, litter, anything really. I think a new non-fee paying school in ED is pretty desperately needed. It does look like it will be lacking in outside space from the picture but the Charter doesn't have much either. I agree that it is NIMBYism in action.
  23. I had a woman like that, with very short hair and slender build, knock on my door over a year ago saying that she lived down the road and her electricity meter had run out and could she have a tenner to recharge her key, she was going to give me proof of address and everything, talking about having a six month old baby (she'd seen my pram). I knew she was lying when she said she didn't know my neighbour (he knows everyone in the street). She knocked on his door and he sent her away wth a flea in her ear and told me she'd tried it on with him some time before and he'd fallen for it. I wonder if she's the same one with the locksmith story?
