We are talking about London chippys here though aren't we Lousia. In fact ED chippys to be precise. OK so red snapper is likely to have been frozen previously but you can't get it in a 'traditional chippy' which was the point I was making.

Louisa, as you will see I edited my post to comment on the type of fish available. 'traditional' chippys don't serve what I wan to eat as a general rule, so yes on occasion I will go to the seacow which as I have said twice now is not trying to be a 'traditional' chippy. And I'm afraid an inverted snob is exactly how you come across in your posts. I'm glad you find it amusing. Personally I think you are living in your little dreamworld of the 1950's.

In my opinion fish that has been frozen whether immediately or not is not as good as fish that has not been frozen. It affects the texture without doubt. Most chippys - of the type that you seem to favour - are likely to use frozen fish, neither do they serve red snapper sea bream, but I suppose that's just posh fish isn't it and I should just stick to cod.

Louisa - Fresh fish is not frozen ergo is fresh. Reading your posts I get the impression that you probably would have complained about the advent of the telephone. "what's wrong with a good old fashioned letter etc.etc." Stop being such an inverted snob. The Seacow does not pretend to be an 'old fashioned chippy' (what ever that is). It is serving something a little better and if you don't like it there are plenty of chippys to choose from. Leave the people who do want something a little better to get on with it.
  5. Absolute rubbish - Sainsbury's produce is way better than the other stores in this area and the organic range is much larger. For those of us that care what goes in, it does make a difference and it is not that much more expensive, you get what you pay for. It's just a classic example of inverted snobbery - what's this rubbish about 'a good honest northern store' I've never heard such bo!!ocks. They are all out to make money whether they are appealing to the pile it high buy it cheap mentality or to the customer who wants a bit more quality. As for ASDA don't get me started on that Walmart owned travesty.
  6. I used to wait in a restaurant years ago that charged a service charge not passed onto us serving. We had to rely on anything left over and above the service charge (not usually much). The owner justified the practice by saying she paid us a higher than standard wage for waiting.

  9. Hey Ant, someone's found a cat in the General issues section - why don't you get in touch with them and give a stray a home?
  10. you could ask the people on the other thread who want to get a kitten/cat if they want it.
  11. It's all to do with genetic stock. Kings Road and Islington hooray henrys only breed with each other - keeps the bloodline healthy.

  15. It is an undeniable truth that global warming is happening at a fast pace, what is causing it is the issue at hand. If you watch the film 'An Inconvenient Truth' by Al Gore you will get a lot of interesting and worrying information. The argument is how much is man-made or a natural cycle of the earth. Whatever the answer to this it is extremely ikely that the massive population of resource consuming people on the earth is having a negative impact. If everyone tries to do a litle bit towards reducing the burden, then that can only be a good thing.
