Post not being delivered by Royal Mail
jazzer replied to gazzam's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There will remain some type of postal system but it is likely that it will be further scaled back as Royal Mail have clearly demonstrated that it is both unreliable and their is a lack of caring about how items within the Royal Mail system are kept, i.e. outdoors in all weathers, resulting in some items probably being trashed. With postage rates continuing to rise, alternatives to Royal Mail will no doubt appear in addition to the existing courier companies. Likely to be a steady and gradual decline. And whilst I do not blame posties wanting increased wages for the job they do six days a week, management want to change working practices to make a profit, but am I not mistaken that they did make a profit in the last quarter whilst also managing to make a loss each day?? That doesn't compute. And the shareholders who get a pretty dividend at the expense of the Post system, does make you wonder!!!!!!! -

Foxtons on Lordship Lane soon to become a Poundland Local
jazzer replied to teddyboy23's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They are having a new shop done out across the road for Foxtons so guess they must be moving out from the current premises to the new shop. To be honest have only ever seen staff and no one else in the current Foxtons shop. So if they are leaving as it seems inevitable that they are, wold seem no reason to mis-trust the conversations so far saying Poundland will be taking over the premises. -

P13 and 363 on diversion due to Thames water works at junction of Underhill rd and Melford rd from 12/12 - 16/12. I got caught out on the P13 return trip from DKH Sainsbury's at lunch time today, further inconvenience to those that rely on these services, although earlier had got the P13 towards DKH Sainsburys from Langton Rise/Underhill Road stop. Taken from TfL website; "UNDERHILL ROAD, SE22: Route P13 is on diversion from 08:00 on Tuesday 13 December until 20:00 on Friday 16 December due to Thames Water works. Buses are diverted via Lordship Lane and Barry Road, missing the stops Whateley Road and Crystal Palace Road in both directions. MELFORD ROAD, DULWICH: Route P13 is on diversion between Dulwich Common/Lordship Lane Estate and North Cross Road via Lordship Lane due to a burst water main. Buses are not serving the stops Underhill Road/Melford Road, Belvoir Road, Langton Rise, Dunstans Road, Friern Road, Crystal Palace Road and Whateley Road. MELFORD ROAD, DULWICH: Routes 363 and N63 are on diversion between Peckham Rye/The Gardens and Lordship Lane/Wood Vale via Barry Road and Lordship Lane due to a burst water main. Buses are not serving the stops Friern Road, Dunstans Road, Therapia Road, Wood Vale/Forest Hill Road, Langton Rise, Melford Road, Underhill Road/Melford Road and Underhill Road."

Article in tomorrows Daily Telegraph about how Royal Mail are (not) looking after our post (in Bristol) that is being left outside, uncovered from the weather and being gnawed by rats and a fox. Some of this is likely to be destroyed and never delivered. https://www.tomorrowspapers.co.uk/daily-telegraph-front-page-2022-12-14/ -
Lime bikes (and other hire companies) left in middle of pavement
jazzer replied to first mate's topic in Roads & Transport
Lots of Lime bikes at the junction with Peckham Rye, were laying on the ground during the week. -
You should be asked to complete a declaration that is stuck to the Royal Mail package, you tick a box to say its a present, hence no additional costs for he receiver.

Question, how can someone remember word for word what was said as quoted in the transcript? It is not just colour of skin that gets comments, even if you have a non British surname, unfortunately indirect racism still takes place, sad but true. People who do it may not realise that those on the receiving end have clocked what is happening, but we DO. It demonstrates your arrogance, we put up with your "games", move on and outplay you in the long game.

And on a note of jollity, can you get stopped for riding one of these bikes after an evening drinking down the pub? -
Lime bikes (and other hire companies) left in middle of pavement
jazzer replied to first mate's topic in Roads & Transport
My concern is for those who are either disabled, in powered wheelchairs, are partially sighted or blind, especially for those who live in supported accommodation in Underhill Road and Lordship Lane and have to navigate these disguarded bikes and scooters as they go about living their lives. Am actually surprised no one has tripped or fallen over any of these hazardous bikes yet. -

jazzer replied to Bic Basher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You'd think/expect that where the burst is and the level of disruption that it is causing, Thames Water would deal with it as an actual emergency. Not surprised the temp traffic lights have failed, temp lights always seem to be unreliable. -

Any updates on the progress of the Underhill Rd/Lordship Lane junction Thames Water repair? -
Constant burst water mains at the Overhill Road end of LL
jazzer replied to Bic Basher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This morning unfortunately I got caught up in this, both ways in and out of Forest Hill, Nightmare is an under estimation of the inconvenience it is causing, there was NO ONE WORKING on the repair at the junction of Underhill/Lordship Lane, Best to be avoided but that is pretty much impossible whatever direction you are coming in. The Overhill temp traffic lights and amount of traffic queuing there was far less and moving reasonably quickly. I hope Thames Water can pull there finger out of the proverbial hole and get this repair done so traffic can once again flow freely.
