I believe one will be issued shortly Mazza.

Whilst not a forumite, nor a regular poster, the mysterious Surfbobby will almost certainly announce the date here on this thread, where it is traditional for him to start his post with the legendary refrain "Hello Sports Fans..."

  • 3 weeks later...

I have a second Barry the Bear!! Smaller than THE Barry and bright red, but clearly a close relative

Like Barry - he is a porcelain Berlin Bear, was originally a corporate gift and has been gifted on to us. In this case it is from my friends in Berlin who, on hearing the fame of Barry the Bear, donated a chum for him.

So, perhaps we can match Wimbledon and have Gents and Ladies Barry the Bear trophies?

Or is that Barriet the Bear?

I shall pass Barriet the Bear on to Help-Ma-Boab and Surf Bobby at an appropriate moment.

This sounds amazing.....can't wait to hear more. I shall get my 3 housemates interested.

Two of us were looking for ways to meet more people locally and the book club was the only thing that appealed due to the location being the pub....so this seems perfect!

Looking forward to it

Abi

M P. Gratefully accept Barriet for the ladies 2010 champion.

Surfbobby will announce the date. Likely to be later than last year due to other commitments.

There will be plenty of notice, so dinnae fesh yersels. Good to see interest in the 3rd running of the BBRR. Everybody welcome be it in an "athletic" capacity or to support, watch and imbibe.

Cheers

Greetings Sports Fans

Back by popular demand for the 3rd year in a row - The Barry Barry Road Race 2010 Ooooh Yeah!!!!!!!

The event is to be held in July for the first time due to literally a million different factors, apologies to those who were hoping for a June date.

So please place a big ole bookmark in your diaries for SATURDAY JULY 24TH!

As per standard, early drinkers can get their groove on from 12 o'clock at the Plough. The gun is due to go off at 2PM but if the last years are anything to go by, this time can be considered fairly loose.

Thanks very much to the walking, breathing legend that is SMB and his prizes, very kind, again. Help Ma Boab, Evel Kenevel and myself are very much looking forward to seeing all of you again, and as always, any help/support (ie Clockhouse drink buyers) are most appreciated. I believe it was Anna and co who did a marvelous job last year.

Mr Ben, the official race correspondent, we'll try and sort out a press pass for you and Seany - expecting big things from you this year. I've got a feeling that the Peoples Champion Prize may be coming back to ED this year.

So thanks very much folks, get training - those pints aren't gonna down themselves. See ya at the starting line

PS - anyone seen the Bear?

Perfect timing with BBRR's 'Perfect Cousin' (what I like to do he doesn'), The London Marathon, taking place on Sunday. Anyone who's thinking of competing in the BBRR and wants to get an inkling of what it's like, watch that.

It's nothing like that.

Promotional material will be displayed prominently at Church of MEAT.

Well there you have it. Surfboab has called the date. Ample time to get in shape for the 2010 run.

Now all we need is The Bear to parade at the start line, and acquaint with the new ladies trophy. The Barry Bear was last seen at clockhouse June 2009.

See you at the start line for some pre race "limbering" up on the 24th July. CHARGE.......................

I have Barriet the Bear for the ladies race.

Shouldnt we award Barry and Barriet for the day and then perhaps replace them with a Certificate? That way Barry and Barriet will not get lost. The Clockhouse might be persuaded to keep hold of them for us.

Was reading the brilliant postings about the run and I thought great i'll have a go at this!! I like the sound of the start and finish and to my dismay it is in July when I am on hols!! But I will hold my glass of whatever I am drinking at the time and toast you brave souls who will run into the jaws of exhaustion! Perhaps I will be able to participate in 2011, or be at the start and saunter to the finish.. Good luck y'all :)-D:)-D

Barry Bear status update.....having employed a dog, not unlike the one that found the world cup all those years ago, I am closing down on The Barry Bear. Looking good to be in possesion on July 24th to parade at the Plough prior to its departure to the Clockhouse for this years presentation, along with the Ladies Bear. Hoping Station Master Barry will be available to present again this year. Like to keep the event true to its inception, keep it pure Barry, ken whit ehs mean!

Agree with Michael P, this year we should keep possesion of the Bear(s), and if the clockhouse could keep em even better. Make a nice display for them, oh and the History, those Bears have some history. An old trophy of mine is still behind the bar at the Harbour Bar, Downings, Donegal from several years ago so the system does work (The Downing in downings challenge 2004).

Keep up the training, pays off on the day.

CHARGE...................

Love Donegal. Did you instigate any challenges in Muff?

    • I never said I thought it was targeted or deliberate. There also has never been a “stand off” or confrontation, we’ve spoken to them in a friendly manner about it. Our experience is they don’t seem to care. That’s the frustrating thing for us, if someone politely raises a concern at least take a second to reflect. Treat others how you would want to be treated.  I don’t want them to lose their job, far from it. But considering it could cost me a days work to fix any damage, I’m within my right to try prevent it.
    • The SE22 Evri delivery family are lovely, and always say hello wherever we spot them in the area. We gave them a box of chocolates during Covid as they were working their socks off at Christmas
    • What was he doing on the stage at Glastonbury? Or on the stage at the other concert in Finsbury Park? Grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst pissed and stoned 20 somethings on the promise of free internet sung-- Oh Jeremy Corbyn---  What were his policies for Northern mining towns with no jobs or infrastructure? Free Internet and university places for youngsters. What were his other manifesto pledges? Why all the ambiguity over Brexit?  I didn't like Thatcher, Blair or May or Tony but I respected them as politicians because they stood by what they believed in. I respect all politicians across the board that stick to their principles. Corbyn didn't and its why he got  annihilated at the polls. A socialist, anti imperialist and anti capitalist that said he voted for an imperialist and pro capitalist cabal. He refused to say how he'd vote over and over again until the last knockings. He did so to appease the Islington elite and middle class students he was courting. The same people that were screaming that Brexit was racist. At the same time the EU were holding black and Asian immigrants in refugee camps overseas but not a word on that! Corbyn created and courted a student union protest movement that screamed at and shouted down anyone not on the left . They claimed Starmer and the centre right of labour were tories. He didn't get elected  because he, his movement and policies were unelectable, twice. He turned out not to have the convictions of his politics and died on his own sword.    Reform won't win an election. All the idiots that voted for them to keep out Labour actually enabled Labour. They'll be back voting tory next time.    Farage wouldn't be able to make his millions if he was in power. He's a very devious shyster but I very much doubt he'd actually want the responsibility that governance requires.
    • The purge of hard left members that were part of Corbyn's, Mcdonnel's and Lansmans momentum that purged the party of right wing and centrist members. That's politics. It's what Blair did to win, its what Starmer had to do to win. This country doesn't vote in extreme left or right governments. That's partly why Corbyn lost  We're pretty much a centrist bunch.  It doesn't make it false either. It's an opinion based on the voting patterns, demography and statistics. Can you explain then why former mining constituencies that despise the tories voted for them or abstained rather than vote for Corbyns Labour?  What is the truth then? But he never got elected!!! Why? He should have been binned off there and then. Why he was allowed to hang about is an outrage. I hold him party responsible for the shit show that we've had to endure since.
