Looking at the posts on this forum there is a huge demand for a hotel around Dulwich. Even just looking at the weddings/ births threads. Not everyone can squeeze into the Victoria Inn. A hotel would create jobs too. Bring it on ( as long as it does not try to be too expensive- in which case they would have to seriously upgrade the pub food).

A hotel lives or dies by the quality of its service, so this can only be a good thing surely?

I'm assuming that it'll largely retain its pubness downstairs?

"it'll largely retain its pubness downstairs" My, my, one superfluous letter could give that a WHHOOOOLE new meaning!!

Good news. I've been looking for something like this for friends and family to stay in when visiting, actually was hopeful The Dog would have a few B & B rooms and surprised and disappointed when I found out this wasn?t the case. The biggy is going to be how much they are planning to charge...
Yes this is definitely the Crown and Greyhound in Dulwich Village. There is a notice up (not a planning application notice but an information sheet) outside the post office in Dulwich Village. The pub are proposing to convert the building into a twenty-room hotel. They will retain the function room at the front of the building, and convert the function room at the back of the building into (part of the) accommodation. The pub and the restaurant will remain. Should this go ahead, the building will close for 15-17 months while the works are undertaken.

Would the whole place need to close Jagger?

The main reason we are not getting married in Dulwich next year is lack of hotel rooms for those coming from out of town / abroad....I think there must be demand for a nice, 4 star "boutique" hotel in the area. Would be a boost for the area I reckon.

Worst meal I've ever had anywhere, ever, was at the Dog.

The Dog has gone seriously downhill in the last year or so - not sure if there's been a change of ownership or management but the food is now appalling, it used to be just about passable - great waste, partic for what could be such a great place in the village. Very sad state it is in at the mo. maybe this will improve things. A sensitive, not corporate makeover is required.

    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.
    • Dawson Heights again  2 lifts out of order at ladlands block Christmas Eve so of course the 🛗 will not be repaired tomorrow Christmas Day or Boxing Day or when how do elderly or mothers with children and prams and food and presents get to the floors and with the 10 minutes you get to drop off  to park and not get a Pcn fine and delivery food to relatives who can’t leave their house unbelievable Southern housing does any know email address of Coe of southern housing
    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
