Great film MP - fantastic. I love the bit where famous northern actor (name escapes me) tells posh rat friend (is it one of the Foxes?) how it's all going to change back home - a fantastic mix of the idealism and chippiness of socialism all rolled up into one...

Yes, wasn't it Tom Courtenay, post Billy Liar I guess, and a staggeringly young James Fox. So many great themes in that film, all wrapped up in a thoroughly entertaining package. An underated classic methinks

It was indeed excellent BBW - saw it last night. It was curiously uplifting despite its bleak portrayal of gang culture , and had a nice sardonic undertone.

Well worth viewing.

This week I have watched Ong Bak, Let The Right One In, and JCVD. All were entertaining for their own reasons...

I saw Ong Bak last month Jezza, the best bit was at the beginning when they had to race to the top of the tree. The Japanese girl was very tidy but got annoying after a while.....still 'would' though.

I saw Steven Soderbergh's Che with Benicio del Toro and Franke Potente and it was gash from start to finish. A very messy and confusing plot.

Watched Gran Torino last night as well. Cracking show with Clint as his grumpy best, some genuinely laugh out loud moments, and an ending as far away as possible from the one you,re expecting. Very highly recommended.

Got to see "Inside I'm Dancing" last night. It's good in a soft/serious way - I'd recommend.

James McAvoy into the bargain. But he's in everything at the minute. Like Clive bloody Owen, both as endemic as swine flu

After rave and fawning media reviews, took myself and the missus off to the Ritzy last night to see 35 Shots of Rum, the latest effort from French legend Claire Denis.

I've never seen any of her other work so had little idea what to expect.

It is two hours of my life I shall never get back. Boring, pretentious French existentialist twaddle. Epically long silences and lots of meaningful stares failed miserably to compensate for 2-D characters, little plot and unrealistic dialogue.

Avoid.

Don't you just love French cinema! Sometimes they get it so right, but all too often, you get something like you describe.
