To the 10-15 boys who were just caught stealing bottles from Tesco's Local; white, dressed in football attire, whiny cockney accent, aged around 16-21... you may have legged it (to the bus stop on the LL side of East Dulwich Rd, but you were recorded in full (thanks to the other blonde girl) & multiple pictures were taken ("smile for the camera, b***s!").

If this sounds like your offspring, you may wish to polish up on your parenting skills.

you do realise that they arent going to be reading your post, right?

Is this some weird kind of public self congratulation?

Perhaps if you were so outraged you could have grabbed one by the scruff of the neck rather than scuttle off and sneer on a forum about parenting skills and "whiny cockney accents".

& you know this for a fact... how?

Yes, being a 5ft2, 92lb female. I can really see that happening. But having taken pictures of the incident as opposed to the standing gormlessly by like the "men" in there were, as these boys (yes, I will stand by my statement) attempted to get aggressive with the security guard; The only people who attempted to do anything about it (other than the security guard) were the 2 young females (myself, the blonde who recorded the entire incident) & the female cashier - hilarious since the guy who stood by was over 6ft tall in workout clothes, but didn't bother to put his physique to any use whatsoever.

- As a side note, it's typical behaviour of the men in this area. Jogging around & staring gormlessly as drama kicks off is clearly the new East Dulwich look.

I think the Police would say not a good idea at all - it's not the 1970s. You'd end up in court possibly.

Seriously? So being a man automatically means you have to be reckless and stupid? With all the knife crime in London these days it is wise not confront them and what the hell can a 6" male who goes to the gym do against a group of thugs? Not worth to risk one's life for a couple of bottles. You can go creep back in your cave now.. you've had your 15 minutes of attention.

Wow thank goodness you used your 5ft2, 92lb female frame to swiftly reach for your phone. I feel so much safer knowing that people like you dont just stand around gormlessly gawking, but take real, physical action by getting their phone out. I mean the bravery you displayed in doing so is quite astounding. And to all the "Men" out there who just stood by and watched, next time actually step in and do something like this fine, brave lady. And dont worry about getting stabbed or beaten for the sake of a couple of poxy bottles of vino from tesco's, because if the OP is around she will have your back by courageously recording your stabbing on her phone

Bit of a mouthful but the dialect I hear most often is called Multicultural London English.

If only more East Dulwich men carried nunchukas and swords and stuff they could stop groups of boys stealing bottles from Tesco. Instead all these pussies do is get on with their lives and leave it to the police.
You hear more cockney accents these days not only in Outer London Boroughs like Havering and Bexley but in towns like Basildon and Southend. This is because the white working classes have progressively moved out to these places in the last 60 years while Inner London Boroughs (and indeed several Outer London Boroughs) have become much more multicultural.

    • Oh dear! The general response is that my experience of Jon Hartley is the norm. That’s bad. As an update to my issue with him, Ellie Reeves’ office advised that I contact the Southwark Labour Party Chief Whip in the first instance with my complaint. Coincidentally, the Chief Whip turns out to be Cllr Maggie Browning. She acknowledged my complaint and, in response, said that she had ‘spoken’ to Jon Hartley and appeared satisfied that he’d now responded to me. Not sure that’ s an adequate response, since it seems to been well-known that he consistently ignores constituents. Maggie will know that better than anyone as she’s paired with Jon in our Ward, and she’s having to pick up the stuff which he’s ignoring. As people have noted, Maggie does indeed respond to constituents but she’s now on maternity leave. Alas, I think that means we’re lumbered with just Jon. I’ve bypassed him in respect of my own issue, because I think he’s a waste of my time. In case anyone else should be having problems with him, especially now that Maggie Browning is away, I’d recommend emailing Ellie Reeves MP. Her office is very responsive in my experience and, if she hears from enough disgruntled constituents of Cllr Hartley, I imagine she be quietly speaking to the Southwark Constituency Labour Party about him. Ultimately, if he stands again, he won’t be getting my vote. Be annoyed people, be very annoyed ! Your vote should count for something and the candidates privileged enough to get it should do the job they were elected for!
