I'd have to say the Gowlett..... The lucky 7s night is a winner for sure. Luckily for the clientele all my late 80s hardcore is 12" >:D< Great beer, Pizza good, friendly people and relaxed atmosphere. Also a table version of Galaxian ... how can you beat that? Just gutted I missed out on that house in Ondine a few years ago... although perhaps a good thing now I think about it.

It's the cellar in the Castle, it's the perfect temp. for Guinness. That and the traditional Irish and West Indian clients who demand a perfect pint. Very nice pub but I've not been in there for years.

Ahem! Been going down the Dog (Crown & Greyhound to you newbies) since I was 15 so I still feel it's my local. I also like the Guinness in the Castle as it's the best locally for that but I am an infrequent visitor there.

I like the CPT for the football and it's friendly barstaff, the EDT I also like a lot, Inside 72 occasionally (great sound system and eclectic mix of music), Black Cherry for cocktails and Green & Blue for fine wine.

I haven't been to the Clockhouse since it was done up about 18 months ago but used to enjoy sitting outside there on the odd occasion in the summer and watching the world go by with a few pints of Youngs Best. Best for food though is the Rye Hotel.

Not as good as the Bridge Inn, which used to be my local when I lived in Topsham :)-D

Though the very eccentric landlord/lady are no longer there, I think :'(

Favourite pub, well there isnt so many to choose from now that they've all been Claphamised but, i'd say that the best ED drinking hole is probably the CPT, although I still have a soft spot for the Castle because Mary is such a lovely lady.

Louisa.

I think most of the pubs in East Dulwich have been ruined in recent years and there are relatively few traditional pubs left. AFter the Moore Park Hotel in Wood Vale closed, I thought the Herne Tavern was a good alternative, but they ruined that when it was yuppified last year, and now the Forest Hill Tavern has been ruined too. I suppose the Castle has got to be the best pub left round here now.
I like a nice traditional pub, not one that has been ruined like the Herne, or turned into a ghastly gastro pub full of yuppies with young children in pushchairs. I've lived in this area for over 30 years, and have been dismayed by the recent gentrification and trendification of what was once a nice ordinary area. East Dulwich was always a nice unpretentious part of London and was a world apart from Dulwich Village, but it has changed beyond recognition in the past few years - in my opinion very much for the worse.

    • I've found it quite a useful thread.  Apparently protein powders are toxic. Not that I have ever, or will ever, try them.   https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/the-hidden-dangers-of-protein-powders
    • Personally can’t stand carpets however where I am renting has carpet in  bedroom and hall. Not great quality and certainly not cleaned. Was  in B & M recently and looking at carpet shampoo -wow got a can costing £2.99 to test.. No scrubbing as others seemed to imply. Spray, leave and poof - smells great, no dabbing or scrubbing and c leaving rubbish. First to admit is only temp solution but no need to hire carpet cleaner instantly  or pay for a company to come and deal with professionally. For 3/6 months happy to have used this - Have a carpet cleaner and in a month or so plan to use it.    Buy a steam cleaner for floors - not expensive - much better than mop and bucket and more hygienic all round. Can pick up second hand ones on e bay.
    • Is this a true story? What protein powder causes kidney damage? Why didn't you cite an article? I shop at H&B, mostly to buy their castor oil, however, I would recommend researching any product beforehand. They do have very informative articles on their website. To be honest, I don't see the point of this post. You could have just taken the product back for a refund or complained in store and in writing.
    • Well the Italian on Lordship Lane  recommended here was delicious.  Thank you so very much -my party were extremely pleased with ambience, location and lovely food plus puddings to die for. They are also on Deliveroo.  Will certainly be back when I am back in 6 weeks time. Went past Love Dulwich at lunchtime on my way to Italian - only a party of 2 - food might be excellent but decided to give it a miss - wasn’t impressed with manager who admitted he had only been there 2 weeks. Might be being totally unfair but doubt it, as no comments since about a month ago from Pugwash.
