Seriously depressing that the earlier thread on this subject has been locked. I wanted to show my wife that it is not just us they hurl abuse at.

Can those who contributed restart the thread, and for the the benifit of those too easily offended tone it down. what is the world coming to?

Anyone who lives on or near Whateley Road will know who we are referring to. Without giving too much away, I seriously suggest reporting ANY anti-social behaviour to the Police Station at the end of the road (as I have done) and if they receive enough complaints there's a very good chance of them taking action. The police recently posted a leter through our door saying the same thing so they are very aware of the situation.

This may sound like a witch hunt to some but it's really not very nice.

Hi guys -

Glad you are supporting my thread on this before. They are foul people, totally anti-social.

Blocking my thread - just another example of letting these types of people get away with it!

You pay through the nose to live there, but have Wayne and Waynetta Slob type people ruin your community!

When we were looking at houses to buy just before Christmas the estate agent actually warned us about the people I assume you are talking about, despite having a house for sale themselves on Whateley! I am pleased to say, having read the earlier thread, that we ended up a couple of roads down instead. I will be avoiding walking that way home so thanks for the warnings everyone.

Come on chaps.

This thread was locked yesterday, not by some fascist act of censorship, but in response to a record number of complaints from users.

Remember this is a public forum for anyone and everyone to use. No reason why the people in question won't find out about this, read it and feel somewhat violated or disturbed by being publicly ridiculed.

I'm not sure I'd want to log on and read "I saw that mockney, jeez he's got a big nose, so full of himself, somebody should sort the numpty out" etc.

Whatever you may think of people, and we're all entitled to opinions, have some consideration. Have this conversation down the pub, but try and be a little more circumspect here is all I ask.

To help nudge the conversation along slightly, does anyone remember the semi-naked elvis and his girlfriend who would play their rockabilly at full blast whilst unsubtly snorting cocaine in the windows in front of everyone in the CPT?

MW, shouldn't that just be an abyss of social wrongness? Not that I've the foggiest what you're trying to say.

it could be anything you would like it to be oh wise one.

MP I've had to reach for the dictionary at least three times today because of you (still can't find fascinae).

I met one of the residents in question the other day outside Bells. I wouldn't want to be a neighbour if the above is true, certainly didn't look friendly but then again I didn't feel threatened either. If the problem is so bad then surely the residents can get together and pressure the relevant authorities (housing association, police, social services) etc rather than coming out with all this Goose Green pillary nonsense. Doesn't put you in a much better light.

MW I hope you get over the lead poisoning.

The previous thread was locked because of complaints and the fact that the thread identified individuals and ridiculed them. I understand why this thread was started again which is fine but some people crossed the line. I am asking you to not cross that line again out of consideration for others. There will not be other warnings on this particular matter.

And I'm putting this in the Lounge.

    • thanks Jenijenjen and all - yes, i remember walking or taking the bus from the elephant (where i was working) to Camberwell to get there.  I think Tim - who's still at Franklin's -  was there in those days, and the woman who ran the cafe!  Other food places that i remember fondly are the ones in Neal's Yard (with the Hunkin sculpture that you could put a coin in ) and the basement lunch place at the Tottenham Court Road junction with Hanway Street...

    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
