I complimented her. I told her that she was more beautiful at the checkout than she'd looked in a magazine photo I'd seen the same week. She seemed pleased and talked to me. I was made up. I'd say from what she had in her trolley and the car she was driving that she has a better paid job than me!

A few years ago, the missus passed Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and another guy (American accent, seemed vaguely familiar but she couldn't think who he was) on Northcross Rd. From the way they were looking around at things, we figured they may have been scouting the area. And of course, Terry Jones used to live in Camberwell.
Yesterday Mrs B and I were walking down LL. This girl walked past and I was convinced she was someone off telly or something as her face looked so familiar. Anyway I pondered over it as we continued our walk and it struck me, she was in fact one of the girls who tends bar in the Magdala. So from now on I shall consider all the people who tend bar in ED as local celebrities.

>:D<

I think there should be a Celebrity ED ladder ranked by kudos.

Top Tier - International Stars of Film and/or Music

Members would include Michael Gambon, Terry Gilliam

Second Tier - Credible UK TV Actors/Pop Stars

Timothy Spall

Third Tier - Not so credible TV Actors/Pop Stars/Comedians

Nesbitt, Eclair

Fourth Tier - Soap Stars/ TV Journalists

Her from Eastenders/Bad Girls, Her from Corrie, Anyone who has appeared in Heartbeat/The Bill, Jeremy Bowen

OK, how about Fantasy East Dulwich Celebrities? You get points for each celebrity you spot, we would just need to firm up the categories and point values. The lesser-spotted Gambon would be quite rare so would be worth a lot more than your common or garden Nesbitt.

I'm new to this forum and only discovered it through searching this topic. I saw Erin O'Connor last Saturday lunchtime in The Cambria pub near Loughborough Junction and was trying to confirm that it was her and not sby who looks like her. Having seen your posts, I'm now certain it was her.

    • But when was it posted?! I haven't posted any this year. I can't bring myself to pay the exorbitant cost of the stamps, and at least I can sort of honestly blame it on illness. If I can't hand deliver them, I send e-cards. I know it's not the same, but it's very much easier. And as for the people who still send pages of closely handwritten letters .... very admirable in terms of the hours it must have taken them to write them,  but they remind me of those spoofs eg x has just passed all their many important exams with the highest marks possible, y has just walked round the world in a week, z has just become the first person ever to be knighted twice, we are about to fly off for our fifteenth exotic holiday this year ....... Or else (or sometimes and) they are full of who has had what illnesses and accidents and other catastrophes. Is this just my relatives and distant friends? Am I somehow attracting these reams of handwritten paper?
    • Oh, I didn't know that! I didn't move here till 1991 (I think) but the NCR incarnation must have been around that time? Unless my failing memory is even worse than I thought it was, sob.
    • I just googled, and apparently there's another branch of the Soho Street Govinda's  in Theobald's Road. I had no idea.
    • yes that's the one!  it was (nearly) harmless fun to get the un-initiated to put the coin in for you i also seem to remember that the Hanway Street place was called Govinda's.  it was vegetarian, vegan even - but it was much more palatable fare than the standard Hare Krishna stuff.  I also used to go tot he Indian Y - which I remmber discussing on the EDF some eyars ago.  And then the first Wagamama opened off Russell Street
