Ianr, I noticed the difference in the Barclays' machines a few months back. They all used to look like the one on the corner then the card slot on the two LL machines was removed. I have been in to the bank and asked about them. They assured me that the two LL machines have just had the previous card slot removed because "the security is now on the inside". Not quite sure what that means and why the machine on the corner hasn't been treated the same way. My beef with them is that none of the machines now look safe and there are no notices letting customers know that they are safe to use, as there was previously.
I've just had one and a half grand taken from my Halifax account in installments over last two weeks. It had been taken from a n ATM on the Cape Verde islands in Cape Verde escuodos! I too use Sommerfield a lot and cash points in ED. Only 6 months ago my card had been cloned and used in Morrocco too. You do need to really examine your statements etc carefully - if you have a disorganized approach to financial affairs as we do it may take some time for the penny to drop!

When you say from your account do you mean you used a debit card? I got a call the other day from our bank asking about withdrawing cash with my wife's card here and also it's use in the far east.To withdraw cash they must have known her pin. This is about the third time it has happened to us in 12 months. Luckily the bank refunds anything fraudulant to our account. Will that not be the case with you?I've often used my debit card to withdraw cash locally but that has so far never caused a problem.

I've also had my card cloned (with pin apparently) in the last 2 weeks and had money taken out wildly in some foreign location - although I'm the sort of slapdash person who uses their card anywhere and everywhere, so not pointing any fingers.

However the allegation against Somerfield in particular was made in a local paper this week (SLP? not sure someone at work had cut out to show me)and the store manager had made a statement, so it is something they are aware of.

Its been mentioned many many times, but the staff or indeed the management of a shop are not usually party to this type of scam and its unfair to blame them- the exceptions do happen and are related to political & criminal groups overseas, but to suggest that a local shop is involved knowingly is a bit bogus

Dare I suggest tho' that F*****s have some suspicious looking people hanging around in the office with seemingly no work to do - I put it to you that F*****s is a front for the operation in ED- look at the evidence - has anyone bought or sold through thm ? no Do their nasty little cars ever move from their parked spots around the office ? no..all those PCs in the office must have some use ....

I rest my case m'lud

Well I can belatedly chip into this one: I also had ?400-odd taken out of my account in Canada. I can't remember which shops I had been using my card in though. I have to admit I always pay for petrol with cash these days because of all the publicity about cameras in the ceiling in petrol stations.

There was an article in the trade press (Computer Weekly) yesterday on Chip and Pin terminals reporting the fact that "...a programme of carrying out checks and modifications to every terminal in retailers throughout the UK began behind the scenes in July. The massive undertaking will take months to complete, although the dedicated police unit that specialises in detecting ?plastic crime? was unable to give a precise timeframe."

The article goes on "Criminals were said to be hiding devices inside terminals to reveal Pins matching credit cards, as well as obtaining data to make cloned magnetic stripe cards. Although these do not work in UK cash machines, criminals can use them to withdraw money in countries that have yet to roll out chip and Pin."

In terms of the check on the C&P terminals: "Each terminal must be checked to see whether criminals have already inserted a data-reading device, and to make physical changes to its tampering-detection system."

I've noticed that the Tescos close to my place of work has changed its C&P terminals recently, perhaps retailers on LL will be following suit shortly...

Hi everyone,

I've had my card cloned 2 weeks ago. I used 4 cashpoints in East Dulwich: Lloyds' Bank, Barclays, HSBC all on Lordship Lane, plus the one on Barry Lane, at the end of Northcross Road. I also used it in Somerfield. It can happen anywhere including pubs or bars..so I don't think we can establish where it happend 100% sure. I have a very good saving account with instant access to the money, so I keep most of my money in there just to make it safer.

Somerfield do know about the debate.

Their head office issued a statement which I believe is posted earlier on this thread. They sent it to admin.

I'm pretty sure non of this is an SE22 specific issue! You put a few thousand people on any forum and I'm sure ~1% (10's of people) will all have had their details stolen. The common thing we all have is our location though, so it's not an outlier IMO.

Admin - is there any way we can run polls on this forum? Would be great to see % of people that have been impacted.

    • Nasty piece of work. Targets locations with a healthy independent presence and farmers’ markets; typical vampire capitalism. Great supporter of a Brexit too. All good reasons to go elsewhere, preferably small independent.,
    • Hi, oglander , Congratulations on your soon-to-arrive little lion - how exciting! It's always lovely to hear someone taking the adoption route (shelters are having a major crisis at the moment!). I've been in business for 15 years & can say with certainty that most cat owners in Dulwich have catflaps so, not only are they easy to have installed, but you shouldn't find yourself short of helping hands on these local forums. A catflap is a brilliant way to keep your little lion safely in overnight as well as generally keeping track of their comings & goings. I'd be happy to walk you through the set up once you've chosen your model (SureFlap & PetSafe are two popular brands). I'm sure the rescue has already advised, but just in case they haven't, it'll be very important to keep your newly adopted cat housebound for the first 2 weeks to familiarise themselves with their new home. Once they've scent-mapped the house, you can gradually begin letting them out to explore & scent-map the garden. Exciting times! x
    • Hello all,  If your child goes to this gym club: since the new payment system, have you received clear information about the cost per session, the cost per term and when sessions will be omitted eg for school opened days? (I have asked the club, more than once, no full response so far) This term started in late August, before school had gone back (did many attend that session?). Next term there is no break for half term, so there are 12 sessions to be paid. Does that seem to be more sessions than there used to be?    I am sure they are doing their best, but the info from the new auto pay system isn’t detailed enough, and the auto pay just takes an unspecified amount. I wondered if it’s just me (wanting more detail), or if there are others too? (my child loves the gym itself!) thanks
    • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent service! We had one of Paul Edgley’ s team come to fit some new lights in our living room. They were able to come at reasonably short notice, arrived on time, were friendly and professional, and did a great job. Everything was left clean and tidy afterwards, and the lights look fantastic. Highly recommend! Paul’s contact details are 07802 627967
