Where is everyone's heart? Doesn't the bit that makes you think you are on "holiday" make your heart skip a little bit?

Maybe not - maybe "F*** it - make it a 36" raised concrete circle to better facilitate traffic" - nothing says "ahhh - back in Dulwich like a 36" raised concrete circle"

Yup, but it will get lonely and may pine (palm?) for more of its mates with him.

The row of Palm trees and yukkas on the Peckham stretch sometimes look a bit badly kept.

They're tough trees, but they do need a bit of tending to since they are not in their natural habitat.

I hope they develop a healthy defence against car fumes.

They remind me of holidays too. Your post is right and appropriate SmG!

As I can't afford a holiday at present - no, I'd prefer not to be reminded of places outside ED or indeed the UK :))

People are not necessarily moaning or being cynical just because they say they don't like something, different folfs/different strokes and all that. I've not even noticed it when I've been by yet, but frankly a palm tree would have been pretty low on my list.

I also worry how long it will last before getting kicked down by some friendly drunken soul.

I think any friendly drunken soul's entire foot would be in plaster for weeks if they tried to kick that palm tree down.

In some areas of London like Edmonton there are arches across the roads either side welcoming people to the area. I am in two minds about this: I think it's nice the council is trying to be (on behalf of its residents) welcoming, but yet it is unnecessary as the area (and the people in other words) should speak for themselves and be friendly and welconing!

Anyway, I love the palm trees in Peckham and East Dulwich, and Yukkas, and if I was boss I would turn the traffic lights junction of top of Barry Road / Lordship lane to a roundabout and put a palm tree on that, too.

A new thread looms....

Never seen such a ridiculous spectacle in all my life. I think it would be more at home in Kew than round here, in fact how about somewhere in the Caribbean or Pacific? What an utter waste of my council tax. I have a crap waste dispoal service, the police and other public services are rarely if ever used (and if they are they turn out to be not very helpful). I think this thing should be put back in it's rightful home and a statue of me should be erected on the roundabout, I might be a little less p*ssed off about how wasteful this council is then!

Louisa.

    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
    • Having a BBQ (fingers crossed) in 2 weeks and need a small BBQ for veggie bits and any spare benches or garden tables and chairs to borrow to add to mine. Any going? Thanks in advance...
    • Oh dear, hope you are OK, I've had it three times and it was worse each time, but not a patch on many of those who got it before they vac' role out. Not commenting on the discussion as I got confused many days ago beyond the reminder that Corbyn would not compromise and the harm that could lead to him, the party and regards Brexit pre and post referendum the country.  Starmer goes too far the other way at times.
    • I am  ill in bed with Covid. It's not that I "can't be bothered" to read things. I am feeling crap and don't have the mental  energy at the moment. I am not "brushing stuff aside and pleading ignorance." I am truthfully saying when I don't presently know enough about something to be able to comment. I have always been very careful to try to  differentiate between fact and opinion in both  my posts and other people's, and I am not clear what your point is. And I am certainly not trying to wind anybody up. This is a forum. If you don't want to respond to my posts, that's up to you. I'm not sure why you feel the need to announce it.
