"Am thinking of trying the place with mosaic outside on Northcross next to DR Boo...has anyone tried that one?"

jesus wept. Love or hate the place but calling long-running local "The Blue Mountain" as "the place with the mosaic outside Northcross next to Dr Boo" is just ignorant of the place you moved to

Newwave indeed

has anyone tried it? Have you tried looking on here for the bazillion threads about it?

Sorry, but I thought it had changed hands and maybe changed names.

Please don't be hostile towards me, I HAVE indeed read earlier threads about "Blue Mountain" however As it was closed for the best part of a year I don't think its unreasonable for me to have assumed that maybe the name has changed.

Why do some posters on here feel it necessary to be so bitchy?!

While I'm on the subject of Northcross road cafe's I WILL go back to Pretty's because I must admit I had a very tasty salad there one lunchtime and if that was anything to go by the breakfasts must be good.

Going back to Duck Egg the only other thing I forgot to mention is that their brown sauce and tomato sauce are those awful vinegary tasting ones like you used to get in Wimpy bars back in the day...And I LOVE a bit of HP with my eggs so that along with the coffee makes it a miss I'm afraid.

Blue Mountain was the original Coffee shop, in ED, glad they have re opened after refurbishment. Had lunch from Boulangerie Jade, and really enjoyed it. I think they would appreciate the feedback, negative or positive said to them.

Im sure they will read it on here, however I would prefer to receive feedback directly, and not via the forum.

Great to see you on Lordship Lane. The place looks great.

Luca's did do a great english breakfast though, although the service was often really bad. Look forward to trying Boulangerie Jade ones soon.

Definitely do the best Pasteis de nata in East Dulwich!

I wouldn't be put off by Pretty's hygiene score. Sometimes I think they are geared up to big commercial places not small independents - I bet McDonalds would get 5/5 for hygiene but I know where I'd rather go for breakfast...

For Northcross Road I like Pretty's & Blue Mountain, haven't been hugely impressed by Duck Egg but it's fine too.

Hey!

Sorry for lack of response, guys. Been super busy! I want to say a huge thanks for everyone coming, we've had a brilliant first few days and despite the weather today it was a fantastic.

Just a quick sum up answer:

If there's something uncomplicated that you want to order, you know we offer it within the menu and you'd like it: just ask! we can do poached eggs on toast opposed to boiled eggs and soldiers or sausages in baguette for example.

All feedback is great, so thank you and we hope to see more of you soon!

Blimey, I'm glad I'm not opening any kind of business in ED. If I was I would avoid forums altogether and concentrate on providing a good service to customers rather try and appease curmudgeons and snipers. Forums in no way offer an accurate description of what takes place in a business, they are just personal opinions and often loaded. I went to a tapas place in Southern Spain last year that had been voted the best in Andalucia on Trip Advisor. Sure enough, it was pretty good. I had a beer with the owner (a Dutch guy) who was chortling because he said that there were much better places to eat tapas than his bar, but British people didn,t go to them. Too Spanish for Brits. Take all postings with a pinch of salt, visit and then make your own mind up. Good luck Boulangerie Jade, you'll need it in hypercritical ED.
Yes I totally agree with going and making you own mind up.... I decided to do just that, praying for an improvement on Lucas..... the cakes looked amazing but what arrived on my plate was awful, microwaved rubber poached eggs, greasy overcooked spinach and stale french stick (asked for sourdough) I really get upset that they have the same staff, a supposed 'chef' in the kitchen and think it appropriate to serve utter crap and charge nearly ?8 for it. It's not hard to, take an order be pleasant and make eggs on toast! On the plus side I managed to get my money back..... went home and made my own. I just get upset that people can provide under par service and 'food' and then expect you pay......Sorry BJ but you can expect ED to be 'hypercritical' when your charging ED prices with very sloppy standards.
If it is the same staff as Luca's, its possible that the new cafe was obliged to employ them (or pay them off which can be quite costly depending on their lengths of service) under the TUPE regulations. It depends on how the transfer of the premises/business was effected whether this is the case but it sounds like it could be a possibility.

We never had a problem with the staff at Lucas, and loved their breakfasts.

Having tried poached eggs and toast myself at Boulangerie Jade this week I am certain they have a different chef from the one at Lucas,

Perhaps the BJ chef makes great pastries but he needs to learn how to do decent eggs and breakfasts!

Dunno about the breakfast offerings but the bread and patisseries are all amazingly good. Pains au chocolat are the best ive ever tasted, anywhere. And the staff are super-nice in my experience, far better than incompetent teenagers that Luca employed.

Had very nice croque monsieur(s!) on Saturday, but crikey we had to wait a long time.

They said it was because they were busy. Well, yes, that's because it's Saturday, probably, but they weren't exactly heaving.

Would have appreciated somebody telling us it might be a while, rather than having to ask where it was. We'd well finished our coffees by the time the food arrived.

Will try again, because the food itself was fine.

Sorry have to agree with some of the above.. Food is ok but pretty average, waiting times definitely too long (25 min for a croque Madame+a full English). The only amazing thing was the black pudding..

Brunch aside, Good candelais! (Bordeaux pastry/cake)can't find them anywhere else!

Not a great start for us either I'm afraid - took ages for menus to come (i went and got my own) and then took ages for food to arrive!!! and once it did come, of course no cutlery supplied (big No-No!). No butter served with toast (and salmon) and the bacon on the sandwich was not fresh by any means... hard and not very tasty even for my 4 year old. Drinks forgotten and gosh, not sure I will be going back in a hurry. Come on guys, with 4-5 tables outside you can do better!! make it work this time!

I gave up on Luca as the coffee quality was inconsistent and service really slow at times - even when not busy - although I always found the staff friendly. I've been to Boulangerie Jade twice and was served straight away and had very good coffee and pastries both times.

Distinctly underwhelmed. Slow and indifferent service. Ordered for 2 - 1 of us got a microwaved quiche - hot in parts and cold on the bottom with no garnish my lunch partners food arrived after I had finished. Did complain they weren't bothered. Still it was better than the place beginning with C down the road where we waited for 15 mins and were seated before being told (without apology) that there was a 30 minute wait for food. Seriously I cannot understand how they get any business. Moan over.

    • Perhaps Gooseygreeny was not familiar with the wildlife before Gala was imposed on the park, since when its value to wildlife has deteriorated. The Park had never been disturbed before, as the council had respected it as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation, so only the Common was licensed by them as a site for events. The first time Gala held their event, there was a tree with woodpeckers nesting in it right in the middle of the main field they used and thrushes, blackbirds and great tits nesting within the shrubs and trees immediately surrounding the field. The woodpeckers were thriving on ants from the anthills in the grass. To those of us who used to enjoy watching the wildlife, it was very obviously a Site of Importance for a variety of birds. Despite being accessed by the public and their dogs, it had been relatively undisturbed,  which was one of the main reasons why it was so special and why I have been opposed to the Gala festival being held during the bird nesting season.
    • So dangerous!    Can you be more specific about the road this was in and when you report it?  Maybe there’s some CCTV footage available
