Winter babies club (due Dec 2014, Jan/Feb 2015)

Recommended Posts

Hi Jemma,

I had a successful ECV at kings with my son. We discovered he was breech at 32 weeks and tried everything under the sun to try and turn him as I was planning a home birth. I did acupuncture, moxibustion, spent a lot if time on all fours and also listened to a hypnobirthing cd specifically for visualising your breech baby turning. We were still breech at a scan around 36 weeks so opted to have the ECV. It worked very quickly and I didn't find it uncomfortable. I did spend the time before the procedure listening to said hypno breech turning cd and trying to be as relaxed as possible.

I've heard there's a 50/50 chance of it working so it is a bit of pot luck. A friend of mine recently tried it, but unfortunately her baby was not for turning. I know that some women find it uncomfortable too, so I guess you have to weigh up the pros and cons. For me it was worth trying.

Have a look at spinning babies website too, it's got lots of tips on baby turning positions.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hi Jemma,

My first was breech and my experience of the ECV was similar to tomo's -I didn't find it too uncomfortable (but I have a friend who found it really uncomfortable so I think it varies). I'd describe it as feeling a bit like Chinese burns. They injected me with a muscle relaxant, had to wait hours for them to do it, which was the most annoying part! They scanned the baby all the way through to make sure he wasn't in distress and fortunately it worked. I've heard seconds are usually more successful than firsts as your muscles are a bit more stretched. I'd agree that it's good to be as relaxed as you can.

For me, it was worth trying (but I really didn't want a c-section).

Hope that helps!

Hi all

Hope you've had a good Christmas. My little man arrived in time for Christmas so we've had a lovely family time.

Keen to meet up w/c 5 Jan when my husband is back at work, if anyone is around?

Happy new year in the meantime! Quiet one for us I think...

Congratulations! Hope everyone had a good christmas.

There was a small party of us who met for coffee after yoga before Christmas and we thought a winter babies whatsapp group would be a nice idea so we can keep in touch and circulate newborn pics etc!

Pm me if you'd like to join the group at the moment it's only got 3 of us.

I'm around this week, I'm scheduled for a c-section in a week's time although I may still be wobbly about the idea and push it back (argh) and wait for baby to decide on its appearance. Anyway definitely around this week and possibly entering the newborn tunnel the week after!

Looking forward to meeting whenever the next meet up is

Happy new year to all and good luck and good labour vibes to all

Hi All

Congratulations LFH! I hope to be around the week of 5th Jan. I can't remember how to use whatsapp and what details you need so I'll check that out and PM you AnyaJoeli.

Thanks Lenster! I am going in tomorrow for the ECV but with reservations - I tried moxibustion and have spent a lot of time on hands and knees and no joy so it is the last option but I'll see what I think after meeting the consultant and having the scan. I could be induced a couple of days later if he ECV is successful but otherwise it's a c-section around 7th Jan. Quite strange to think we could have a baby by the end of the week... I'll let everyone know if/when we have any news!

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all well and had a lovely Christmas? We had a lovely Christmas with the new little one, now with two kiddies, we strangely feel like more of a family, it's been really lovely! :)

Huge congrats LHF! Hope your early days are going well, such a special time!

AnyaJoeli, please do add me to the WhatsApp group! I'll PM you my mobile. Thanks for organising.

Jemma, hope it all went well with the ECV. But if you have to have a c-section, there are definite advantages (I reckon if this baby had been breech like my first was, I would have definitely been up for considering that route!). Although it's a bit more initial recovery, overall most people I know seem to make a full recovery from a c-section quicker than a natural birth... Fingers crossed for the best outcome, whatever that might be!

Looking forward to hearing more baby news soon!

Congratulations to everyone who have had their babies already.

Finally I am on maternity leave and will have time to meet up with the group. I am a FTM, expecting on the 17th January. Please let me know when you are meeting next and I will come along.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

Jemma how did it go with the ecv? Fingers crossed all went well and not too uncomfy?

I've spent the morning at kings, oh the irony went in to see the consultant about pushing back my c-section date to see if I can encourage natural labour and it turns out I'm showing signs of preeclampsia and consultant nearly wanted to keep me in to have baby today! Argh.

So it looks like baby will be coming on Monday by c-section. Excited and nervous at the same time.

Whatsapp group is growing nicely and I can't wait to see some pics and have the first new year get togethers.

I'll be at yoga on Saturday if anyone as is.

Happy new year all!

Hi All

The ECV was unsuccessful and I was scheduled to try again today but in fact I went into labour in the early hours of this morning and had a little girl by c-section at 6am. She will have plenty of good birthday/NYE parties in the future I'm sure!

The c-section was completely fine and the whole experience has been quite relaxed compared to my son's birth. I'm glad the decision was taken out of my hands in a way and I'm not sure why I was so worried about the c-section.

Still to choose a name but we are both doing well and hopefully will be home after 48 hours.

Best wishes for Monday Anjajoeli - I hope you find the c-section experience a positive one too. I would have preferred a natural birth too but I have to say it is nice to be sitting up in bed, not feeling totally wiped out and with 48 hours here to rest and enjoy time with my little girl before rejoining the mayhem back home!

Jemmarc - wonderful news, congratulations! So glad everything went well and you're already at home with the family. It's nice to hear that your c-section experience was a positive one. It's something that I'm not hugely keen on so hearing from someone who has had one and says it was fine has helped me think a little differently. Thanks :)

AnyaJoeli - Good luck for Monday! Looking forward to hearing the news.

Happy new year everyone!

Oh wow congratulations Jemma!! That's fantastic news. I know exactly what you mean about it being taken out of your hands, I feel that way today a bit and am going to spend the next few days relaxing into the idea...has to be better than my crash emcs last time anyway!

Congrats and hope the hospital stay is calm and restful!

Oooh Congratulations everyone on the recent arrivals!

Sorry to hear about the pre eclampsia Anya, wishing you all the best for Monday!

I'm so ready to meet my baby now. I'm feeling very uncomfortable with SI joint and pelvic pain. Tried to run after my defiant toddler today only to find I physically couldn't. My body feels broken by this pregnancy.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas? Look forward to meeting up in the new year with new babies in tow.

Hello all and Happy New Year!

My first baby is due on the 12th but have just started my maternity leave hence the rather late arrival to this thread.

It would be great to meet you all though if you still take on new comers?

Let me know please and congratulations to those of you who have had their babies already!

Another winter baby arrival to report - I had my son on Christmas Day, but have only just settled back in at home as it wasn't the straightforward home birth I'd planned.

Congratulations on all the new arrivals and good luck to everyone still waiting for their little ones.

Looking forward to meeting up with everyone soon

Hi all,

I *might* be able to do coffee on Monday pm. I'm now 41+1 :-( so really hoping baby arrives before Monday when I'll have a FOURTH sweep :-(( and definitely before next Wed when I'll be induced :-(((

Feeling pretty fed-up tbh and the tyrannical toddler is giving me the runaround although not literally as I can't run - more of a desperate stagger. Her current obsession with Frozen is the only thing keeping me sane as I can at least get 20 mins of peace while she watches the 1st 20 mins again and again and again and again? oh dear?

As long as things remain as they are I can make 3.30 onwards on Monday and I'm pretty flexible on location too although it needs to be somewhere suitable for said tyrannical toddler.

Anya - thanks for setting up the whatsapp group and good luck for Monday.

Hopefully see everyone soon with baby in tow.

Hi there, I'm officially on maternity leave now. Yippee! Couldn't do that commute across London anymore!

I was planning on taking toddler to Goose Green playground on Monday (to wear her out ;-)) but could definitely be tempted by coffee. Where is good for people?

Anya, thanks again for setting up the what's app group. I sent a message to wish you good luck for Monday but I'm not sure I'm using this app right yet, so in case you didn't recieve it, best wishes and can't wait to hear the news of your arrival.

Speak soon

Hi ladies,

I'm new to this thread so hope it's not too late to join the group. I'm expecting my second baby at the end of January, planning my second home birth - my wonderful (but exhausting!) little boy is now 27 months old.

Haven't done antenatal classes this time round, in fact I think I've been slightly in denial about the whole thing (TWO children? Eek!!) until now which is why I've only just thought to look on the forum for a group of mums! Would love to meet up with you all. I go on mat leave mid January and will have a bit of childcare for my son so will be available for baby-only meet ups (civilised coffees) and baby+toddler meet-ups (running around the park juggling two children and failing to finish a sentence...).

Can someone give me a quick catch up on how many are in the group, whether you are meeting up regularly etc.? Is there another meet up planned for January?

Look forward to meeting you all!
