I havent really experienced the full range of ED restaurants. The blessed Mother arrives on Monday and I would like to take her to an ED restaurant. Noting too posh, Mothers methodist upbringing would not approve.

Easy walking distance of home (by Goose Green).

Ta!

I'll never forget dad-in-law coming with us to The Bishop on New Years Day - a born and bred Mail reader he survey the scen and declared "So this is what the chattering classes are like"

on a Monday night the restaurant scene will be wide open. From your description I would possibly recommend Le Moulin - French name but plenty of good honest grub my Mum would love too - very unpretentious

Possibly too far up LL? What type of food would she prefer?

Darling Mr SeanMacGabhann,

It really sounds as though you know your stuff! I think you should be the resident food critic for the entire forum - with regular reviews published on your very own thread. Obviously this would involve lots of free meal opportunities...

cough.. straight out of left field, a compliment thrown my way. By none other than....DM herself. I need say no more and content myself that this day will get no better.

I don't know if I know my stuff... I don't seem to be able to even type properly these days.

Back in the day, I had a very similar idea (reviews etc) and created a whole 12k of HTML code that led to

www.timamansio.com

It didn't look like that - that's an update I did this week just to appease a mate who NEVER stops bugging me about it

So I put a link to this place (far better) on the page and a vague teaser

I am however, an inveterate procrastinator (Chuir ar an m?ar fada ?)so whether anything will happen remains to be seen

Oy! Back on topic the lot of you! How dare you question proclivities on a thread about the blessed Mother.

So far only Sean has come up with sensible suggestions. Given the fact that I know you are a bibulous crew I cannot believe that an encyclopedic knowledge of LL eateries is beyond our collectve ken.

:))

Only been to Le Chardon once. Service was indeed bad. Starters were all but finished by the time the wine arrived, despite asking a number of times. Similar number of requests and wait for the bill too.

Food was.. 'ok'...

Maybe they were having an off day.

    • There was an excellent discussion on Newscast last night between the BBC Political Editor, the director of the IFS and the director of More In Common - all highly intelligent people with no party political agenda and far more across their briefs than any minister I've seen in years. The consensus was that Labour are so unpopular and untrusted by the electorate already, as are the Conservatives, that breaking the manifesto pledge on income tax wouldn't drive their approval ratings any lower, so they should, and I quote, 'Roll The Dice', hope for the best and see where we are in a couple of years time. As a strategy, i don't know whether I find that quite worrying or just an honest appraisal of what most governments actually do in practice.
    • They are a third of the way through their term Earl. It's no good blaming other people anymore. They only have three years left to fix what is now their own mess. And its not just lies in the manifesto. There were lies at the last budget too, when they said that was it, they weren't coming back for more tax and more borrowing. They'd already blamed the increase in NIC taxes on what they claimed was a thorough investigation. They either knew everything then or they lied about that too .   They need to stop lying and start behaving. If they don't the next government won't be theirs, it will be led by Nigel Farage.  They have to turn it round rapidly. Blaming other people, telling lies and breaking promises isn't going to cut it any more.
    • Is it lame? Or is it Lamey? (sorry)
