Bar-B-Que's give off pollution and Carbon Monoxide..

Lets ban them as well.

The only reasonable reason to ban fireworks is that they can be dangerous and people get injured

especially when used in areas which are too small for some of the bigger fireworks

available these days. Perhaps there needs to be a limit on their size.

Its up to people to be sensible.

Not reasonable to ban them just because you don't like them.

They are used all over the world and millions of people love them.

There are those amongst us who do not like to see other people enjoying themselves.

This isn't about BBQs, or smoking, which is also a pollutant.

Lots of people are not sensible with them, hence so many objections. They need to be limited, which they currently are not, except between certain hours of the early morning, which still doesn't stop people letting them off.

A proper exhibition on NYE or 5th November - no problem, go to it, don't go to it. It's the mindless setting off in back gardens, on the street or in parks that so many people are objecting to.

Do you drive?

Traffic makes loads of noise all year round, is terrible for the environment and kills loads of people each year.

Ban the cars!!!

And the bikes, ban the bloody bikes (because they basically turn otherwise lovely people in to complete weirdos. More mind altering than any drug).

Are you seriously lumping fireworks in the back garden in with setting them off in the parks and streets?

Really?

The noise may bug you, okay I can get that. And no one should be setting them off in the street / parks, I don't for a second disagree with you. But "mindless setting off in back gardens"? Have a word.

Because I am not stupid enough to want them banned because I might find them mildly annoying at times.

Stick with being annoyed by the noise, I can understand that even if I disagree. But when you start talking about the harm they do to my lungs you've completely lost me.

The Whistlers back too - now he makes a noise worse than any firework

and he goes on and on and on.

That is additional info I posted, after first mate posted it elsewhere.

Idiots have spoiled fireworks for me, they aren't special anymore, just extremely noisy and worrisome for me and my dog, and other people feel the same. More were going off last night in close proximity.

I didn't start that petition, I provided the link to it. At the bottom it asks for limitations to be brought in in line with other countries, even though the heading says to ban them. At least it's started a debate. I was happy to find out other people felt the same as me.

Some people are responsible with them, but others are not. As with most things, the ones that aren't spoil it for the rest. They are noisy, disrupting sleep and waking the children. They're let off in areas where they shouldn't be. They pollute and cause mess that other people have to suffer. In the worst cases they can be dangerous and even kill.

So perhaps it would be better if - instead of people owning dogs at home - they were kept in an isolated compound and let out once or twice a year, under strictly controlled conditions - for dog lovers to enjoy.

That is truly (though inadvertently) hysterically funny. Here are some of their fabulous 'alternatives' for a spectacular fireworks display:

- Try watching the stars. (Wooooo!!!)

- Organizing community drum circles and drumming instead of lighting fireworks. (Ahhhhhhh!!)

- A stunt kite show at night with some LED's would be "cool". (Coooooolll!!)

I'm just surprised they didn't suggest "throw some lentils in the air".

Sorry - I'm not interested in trying to see things from any perspective other than the one that works best for me and others who happen to agree with me. Blinkers on. Forward march.

I can't believe this was your response to *bob*'s post. I don't want to attack anyone, but that has got to be one of the most humourless posts in forum history.

Irony alert!

I'm totally bored with the nightly fireworks too, but surely the existing laws on environmental health / noise / pollution / antisocial behaviour are enough for the Council to act if they get complaints? Banning them would just be criticised as more nanny state, and the injuries are unlikely to be high enough to make it a priority anyway, so I'm not convinced this is a realistic way to tackle the situation.
