I was dumped before Christmas and am trying to get together a play list to get over the end of a five year relationship. I emphasise that this is a "getting over it list" not a "wallowing in it list". My current favourite is The Gambler -- "you gotta know when to hold 'um, know when to fold 'um"

Help me people.

Don't underestimate a good wallow - it's how I get over these things!

But if people are going for "getting over it", can I suggest that the first person to sugggest I will survive gets a huuuge QI alarm bell?

Oh and sorry to hear about your breakup as well - it's never good at the time.

"One Way Ticket (Because I Can)"

Standing on the border

Looking out into the great unknown

I can feel my heart beating faster as I step out on my own

There's a new horizon and the promise of favorable wind

I'm heading out tonight, traveling light

I'm gonna start all over again

And buy a one-way ticket on a west bound train

See how far I can go

I'm gonna go out dancing in the pouring rain

And talk to someone I don't know

I will face the world around me

Knowing that I'm strong enough to let you go

And I will fall in love again

Because I can

Gonna climb the mountain

And look the eagle in the eye

I won't let fear clip my wings and tell me how high I can fly

How could I have ever believed

That love had to be so blind

When freedom was waiting, down at the station

All I had to do was make up my mind

And buy a one-way ticket on a west bound train

See how far I can go

I'm gonna go out dancing in the pouring rain

And talk to someone I don't know

I will face the world around me

Knowing that I'm strong enough to let you go

And I will fall in love again

Because I can

Well, I have walked through the fire

And crawled on my knees through the valley of the shadow of doubt

Then the truth came shining like a light on me and now I can see my way out

I'm gonna buy a one-way ticket on a west bound train

See how far I can go

I'm gonna go out dancing in the pouring rain

And talk to someone I don't know

I'm gonna buy a one-way ticket on a west bound train

Gonna have my breakfast with some pink champagne

I'm gonna sail the ocean, I'm gonna spread my wings

I'm gonna climb that mountain, gonna do everything.

Personal favourite of mine..

"Special Ones" by George

Isn't it funny how you never really screamed at my face,

but your anger so unspoken and unchannelled

permeates my essence to the point where I,

Don't want to see you hear you, be anywhere near you,

you probably think I'm threatened by you

but your illusionary power doesn't threaten me,

Actually I think it's kind of funny that you create an illusion that is a mirror,

I don't appreciate you and I know that that surprises you

I suppose you see that those who follow their heart always win,

those with integrity have won the match before it's begun

So rather than being kicked around, I'm going to kick you to the curb

So rather than being pushed around, I'm going to push you away first

So rather than trying to protect you, I'm going to cover my bases first

So rather than trying to open my heart, I'm going to lock it with a key

So that only the special ones, so that only the special ones, can ever get through to me

Some can see beyond the barrier of threshold whereas others can't see beyond their sculptured mould,

you could offer me nothing, you could offer me nothing that I need

Do you think I'm asking too much?

A kind of respect and trust that shouldn't even be questioned,

how can I open my heart with dishonesty sitting next to me?

I've honoured your honour to the point of embarrassment,

but innocence in the hands of the guilt-free is kicked to, is kicked to the curb

I was ashamed of my innocence,

I was ashamed of my innocence but now with clarity I see that your bullshit is just not worthy of me

I don't want to be angry.

I don't want to be angry.

I don't want to be angry.

I don't want to be angry.

This is not worthy of me

and now with clarity I see

that I can walk away,

I can walk away

Yes by Mac-something and Butler is v good.... me and my friend use to have a whole track list in our heads of songs for the single/dumped, but never got as far a writing it down, and haven't needed to refer back to those sorts of songs in a while.

"In Demand" by Texas is good - prob more so if you've found someone else and bump into your ex seeming to want you back (possibly bit early on at the mo for Kistanbul but sure it'll happen!).

Am sure an anti-valentine/love/getting over being dumped compilation CD would prob be quite a big seller this time of year!!
