Am thinking of getting one of these.. anyone got one? If yes are they worthwhile having?

but but but im trying to be more of an eco warrior! Jaws is not letting me at this stage to have a wormery but my plan is to just keep nagging and nagging until she relents.. If that fails I shall just order one and say you got it for me as a gift!! >:D

I don't think they're very difficult to make if you wan't to be really eco.......not that I've got a scooby myself

You can get a wormery for ?10 through the council... we got one a couple of years ago but it wasn't a success - the worms didn't seem able to cope with the quantity of kitchen waste we had, everything went mouldy, then the worms died :'(

We tried for a year - but the worms didn't seem to like our kitchen waste. We were spending a fortune on various additional goodies to put in the damn thing to keep it all sweet and the worms happy - but this didn't work either. Now have a redundant wormery and a baby compost heap.

If you do get one, buy one with at least two layers. That way, the worms moved down and the compost is on the top. Wiggly Wigglers or wormery.co.uk

My next door neighbours got one from the council, and it was a total disaster even though we obeyed the rules and did not put citrus stuff in it. There were little flies everywhere and it just stank. And yes, the worms died.

Oh Strawbs, it's a bloody nightmare. I suppose the only benefit of being an Onanist again is that as a male I can indulge in the bizarre game of 'playing hard to get' if you catch my drift.

Oh no, I've just sent off for my worms for the council wormery we purchased (last year - now looking a little neglected in the back garden).

Has anybody successfully managed to use theirs or am I about to send more worms to their death?

Alas we have decided to stay in our flat rather than moving to a larger flat and I dont have the room for a wormery or chickens (possibly why Jaws is so keen to stay!!).. Once I grow up and get a real house I will get a wormery for sure..

I've composted with worms for years and it is fab. Just remember to put in loads of torn/shredded paper - if it starts to wiff then it's too wet - put in more paper and mix it up occasionally if you have a bin-type container. Oh and Ive always put citrus in.
