bigbadwolf
Right ladies and gentleman today I've seen something awesome! Our head engineer has just returned from Tokyo and was lucky enough to be exposed to a stunning new method of demolition. It's called the Kajima technique and utilises hydraulic jacks to lower the building and is proven to allow the materials to be recycled up to 99 percent instead of landfill. The usual.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1qgx95SFdsThe Kajima technique. Awesome isn't it. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5440-learnt-anything-interesting-at-work-recently/ Share on other sites
Moos
The downside presumably being that it takes much longer and is therefore much more expensive? Or did I conclude incorrectly? HonaloochieB
I'm pleased about the recycing and everything BBW, but the Kajima method lacks spectacle. bigbadwolf
I haven't got all the facts moos but in todays construction and heavy engineering, especially demo is the enviromental impact and what we can do to reduce it. It's also alot safer than using explosives or using large machines. Brendan
All the work that the government is planning to do to refurnish schools is now going to be procured on an individual contract basis because they were too useless to set up a proper framework agreement. That and the coffee machine on the second floor is now fixed, apparently. LegalEagle-ish
I learned that the Home Office's multilple criminal prosecution of my client for refusing to co-operate with his removal to a country he has fled from in fear of his life, may be illegal which means that his deportation for these 'criminal' convictions may also be invalid as he has no other criminal convictions so should not be facing deportation. Exciting stuff which is outside my area of law, but has been passed to top notch public lawyer. I learn something everyday - which is why I love my job (especially as it's part-time now too)! Brendan
They are starting to build the Shard of Glass next month.Meanwhile construction on the world?s tallest super tower, in Dubai has been halted because of financing issues. 2 More things I learnt today. And the coffee machine on the second floor is up and running again. Ted Max
I learnt that Americans will take conference calls at stupid times. Often in their jim-jams whilst eating their Golden Grahams, rather than be seen to be unavailable. And, loosely related to the coffee machine updates, there was a sign at my old office that used to say: "The taps downstairs are drinking water" Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5440-learnt-anything-interesting-at-work-recently/#findComment-174617 Share on other sites

Have you seen the footage of our favourite Steeplejack knocking down the chimmney stacks of the Bury mills. He'd just start an enormous fire to undermine the foundations while pissed on Guinness and then run for his life when the whole thing came crashing down in a direction he was never sure about. Rather like the attitude Keith Floyd took to his cooking. Keef
On Monday I learnt that my new job, which I gave up a very secure job for, was not what I thought it was, and that I'm not working within my speci@l!sm (not exclusively anyway). After initially wondering what I'd done, I've learnt it's a lot of fun, and I can still rip the absolute p!ss with my hours! :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5440-learnt-anything-interesting-at-work-recently/#findComment-174710 Share on other sites
