Ann
I see the black couple all the time on Lordship Lane, very often around the Goose Green area and I must admit they were the first ones who came to mind and like others have said, completely harmless.I also remember well the White Woman. She was definately under the care of the Maudsley ( but not necessarily as an in patient) had this information on very reliable sources. She did literally paint her face with white emulsion. Haven't seen her for many years but hope she's well where-ever she is.I've never seen the whistling man. Is he still around? citizenED
But Mullet Man is a classic Ashes to Ashes throwback. Keep your eyes open around Grove Vale. ThinLizzy
Hehe -- I've inadvertently met the Black couple in Cheners -- I'd recently moved here and they came into the shop pretending to look for books. At one point they stood close to where I was browsing, kinda looking at me to see 'how to look for books'... they left soon after! Very sweet, but a bit odd Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6154-east-dulwich-characters/page/2/#findComment-197500 Share on other sites
bignumber5
More of a Peckham character than an EDC, but there's the bloke that gets on the bus at peckham rye with his bird (actual, not misogynistic). He has a chain from it's foot to his wrist, but it sits on his hand, quietly and unflapping. Something of a double-take moment the first time I saw him... ratty
there is also the overdressed oldish lady who wears sort of 60s clothes, and somewhere in my mind a woman with red hair and dark eye make up under her eye Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6154-east-dulwich-characters/page/2/#findComment-197515 Share on other sites
LuLu Too
Lets not forget that EDF does not exist in a vacumn. Some of these "characters" described on this thread will have family/friends/other loved ones who may read or even contribute to this forum. To find out one is being discussed on an Internet forum could indeed feed into an already fragile delusional belief system... So when these "characters" relapse, their paranoia and sense of persecution, that people "are talking about me", is now shown to be true.Be a little bit more respectful. Just because a "character" is no longer so high profile or visible, does not mean they are not still living locally and possibly may come across this forum.Just my thoughts on the topic! Tony.London Suburbs
Come Come..lets get REAL here Guys...you cannae have it both ways......I moved to a lovely area, just like EAst Dulwich and, sadly, left all The Walworth Road Characters behind me....almost by definition they are from Working-Class stock...In Walworth I could name squillions or maybe just zillions but in safe, family-orientated Bexley-not one in 26 years...There was Archie, an alcoholic who wore a McDonalds hat, at all times, and abused passrs-by, like me on two seperate occassions.Once when I was using the local phone box he walked past, opened the door and shouted "f+++ing yapping" right in my face b4 slamming the doorand making off. Then we me and my M8 walked past him on the way to The Thomas A'Beckett to see Blunderbuss we greeted him only for him to reply "F++k the pleasantries!"...:))Its like watching a Rough and Ready Football Club like Millwall the characters are 10-a-Penny, though not all desirable!Go to a more pleasant environment and most people, naturally, conform, hence a dearth of characters.I've learnt that you can't have your cake and eat it..B) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6154-east-dulwich-characters/page/2/#findComment-197585 Share on other sites

Michael Palaeologus
There is the bloke with the perfect Barnet who works in Sean's DIY (or is it Terry's? or mine?).A maginificent combed-back and lacquered hair-do that hasnt changed, or indeed moved, for decades. Often to be seen outside the local caff with a big mug of something steamy and a fag on. Also to be seen in local boozers, sometimes wearing a slighlty too small suit. Pickle
The couple mentioned in other posts are by far my favourite ED characters. Many a time I've been in a shop on LL to have the old man simply walk in, say a cheery hello to everyone, and leave. I love the fact that the shopkeepers on LL seem to know him, and always respond with a smile and a wave. Harmless, friendly, and I bet they have a few great stories to tell.
