Nope, definitely Crystal Waters and definitely dreadful. 'Rockstar' by Nickelback springs to mind as a recent hateful song demonised further by the advertising Exec's at DFS for 'that' TV ad. As far as terrible cover versions go, 'We Will Rock You' by Five (5ive?!) is dire to the extreme. They might has well have put a copy of 'A Day At The Races' on the floor and all taken a steaming communal slash all over it.

Iv'e been to paradise , but Iv'e never been to me ???????

FECK

and that bloody awful song that Buffy Saint Marie wrote ...they lift us up where we belong , or the lift goes up where we belong .... or something .... dreadful .... she was allright ( mostly ) in the 60s .

Deee-lite's Groove is in the heart. Dreadful, dreadful song.

And years ago, in my student days, one Saturday morning, while watching The Chart Show, after too much the night before, this song or more precisely the video for it actually made me throw up.

Still brings me out in a cold sweat.

quite the reverse for me Lulu Too!

this track gives me a 'heat wave' when ever I hear it...

reminds me a of a fantastic night in a club with the second love of my life,

he was the hottest guy... went out with him when I was at the Royal College...

it was a balmy summers night, we walked back about 4.00 am

we spiced up the journey home by having sex in the churchyard off Blackfrair's Road

absolutely unforgettable...

I've got a new song that i detest..

SEXY MACARENA by some homeless dude, busking on the street near my work, who can't sing or play the guitar..It consists of those 2 words sung badly while the guitar was strummed randomly & he sang it to me whilst giving me a lusty look..

"I wish i was a little bit taller i wish i was a bawler i wish i had a rabbit in a hat da da da da something or other ... blah blah cant even get a date so what dya think O that" ........... F^&K off THEN !"!!

De La Soul?

Oh my goodness I always thought Groove in the heart was called Groovers in the hall. I also thought Take That's only takes a minute girl was Only takes a mini girl though so I obviously need to get my ears checked.

There's that Blue (i think) song that goes on about a girl who he's dancing up close with makes it 'hard' for him - i love and hate that one.

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
    • You've got a point.  Thinking Leyland and Screwfix too but this felt different.
