Shiny new 40s

Recommended Posts

All the buses on route 40 seems to have been replaced. Air conditioned, very comfortable (for a bus) and good leg room. Tried one out this morning and all the 40s going south were similar '09' registered.

apparently the market leader in building london buses is a northern irish company and it builds them and sends them over to london in flat packs. Hope they put them together correctly. Not sure if they supply the number 40 but may well do.

Experienced the new 40 this morning! Apart from the driver not being able to operate all of his funky new gadgets properly, it was a very pleasing journey!!

How long they will stay nice is up for debate though.

One thing I do miss from the older design is the "footrest" that ran along the front few seats on the top deck on the left hand side of the bus.

Oh yes... and not only is it as annoying as previous busses... it now seems to speak randomly at you!!!

Didn't take long for the greasy haired amongst the 40 passengers to make the windows all streaky and minging with their lovely hair products. Gross.

Try sitting a bit further back on the left on the new buses - I did this morning and enjoyed the footrest which I am also a fan of!

I always have trouble with term ?environmentally friendly? would ?less environmentally damaging? be more accurate term as the former seem to imply that they are improving the environment. I?ll never make it in marketing!

Anybody trying to travel on one of these this morning at around 8am will have witnessed a comedy of errors. First bus to arrive parked up at the Plough bus stop (rather than usual parking spot behind LL), at which point the driver got out a copy of The Sun, and then proceeded to block the bus lane inexplicably for the next 10 minutes. When the next one finally arrived, it made it as far as Moxon's before the door broke and the driver told everybody to get off.

New 40, new danger. Teething problems, I know, but I got a shoeing when I turned up late for work. :(

You can replace the buses... you can't replace the passengers.

I am convinced they do this on purpose. They only put the heating on when it's baking outside. On freezing mornings, there is no heating on - EVER!

    • FH is so much greener and IMO nicer than ED, sorry. Less commercialised.  The Great North Wood, Hornimans Gardens, Brenchley Gardens, One Tree Hill ) yep, some of that borders ED, so split between the two)
    • Tesco sell pudding rice https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/254877391   And as for olive oil, my preference is the Spanish 2L cans in Sainsbury, it has a real nice peppery taste, not bland like the Italian one's I've tasted, but that's personal preference I suppose.
    • It feels like a group who don't believe that private motoring should be discouraged and have no answers to the air quality problem, whereas the original Cleanairdulwich are campaigning to reduce pollution. Sadly we live in a world where if you are rich, you will generally live in nicer houses, have nicer environments and cleaner air.  That is capitalism for you, but I doubt whether there would be greater health equality in the former Soviet Union either.  Dulwich village was once full of industrialists and the like who didn't want to live in polluted central London where most would have made their money.  I will contact Cleanairdulwich and hopefully provide a better perspective.  Whether it is one individual or a whole community I support agree with what they are doing.
    • ??? When they refer to "all Dulwich", I took that to mean including the residents of the streets where the traffic has been directed into due to the LTNs, which are presumably experiencing greater pollution/stress,  whereas the "privileged few" in the LTN areas are experiencing lower pollution due to less traffic. Hence the reference to inequality. Sorry if I've got the terminology wrong.
