Jeremy
Direct comparisons between a popular part of zone 2 London, and a notoriously shit area of the North East make no sense at all.So... other places where you can you get reasonable fish and chips (eat in) for less money round these parts? Otta
Going off topid, but yes, Whitby is a beautiful place with a real sense of history.http://www.whitbyonline.co.uk/whitbyhistory/Nothing like climbing the 199 steps to the old chapel and sitting on a bench overlooking the bay, it's a special place.http://blog.secretescapes.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/whitby-David-Speight.jpgGrimsby... not so much. Otta
Oh, and those "benches" at regular intervals up the steps were apparently for coffins to be rested on when the bearers needed a rest on the way up to the chapel.Legend has it that a black dog jumped off a deserted ship, swam to shore, ran up the steps in to the chapel and disappeared. Bram Stoker liked that and wrote Dracular. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/87801-sea-cow-closed/page/5/#findComment-945817 Share on other sites
Otta
They also have an arch made of a whale's jaw bone, which you don't see every day.http://www.beautifulbritain.co.uk/images/Whitby/whitby084.jpgDamn it, I want to go to Whitby. Jeremy
I will admit that this "Whitby" place looks reasonably pleasant. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/87801-sea-cow-closed/page/5/#findComment-945838 Share on other sites

Cedges
There are lovely parts of Grimsby and Cleethorpes if you bother to use your intelligence and not believe every stereotype you hear and believe because you are too damn ignorant. There are majorly sh**ty parts of Southwark if you take your blinkers off. Jeremy
I am sure there are pockets of jaw-dropping beauty in Grimsby. But putting personal opinion to one side... objectively, the facts are that it's an area with relatively cheap property and relatively high unemployment. Pretty much everything is cheaper there. By London standards, prices at the Sea Cow were about right. rabbitears
Can't believe there's been so much discussion of Whitby without any mention of its status as a Mecca for goths! Didn't any of you spend your teenage years wearing black, drinking cider and ostentatiously reading HP Lovecraft?
