She's been given a 'new' job to get the olympics done. Because a 7 billion overspend was doing a pretty good job of it wasn't it!!

At least John Reid's gone, nowt for Hazel Blears and Ruth Kelly in transport hopefully can't do too much damage there.

Nice to see most of the ultra blairites gone.

Milliband as foreign secretary is an interesting one, but seeing as Blair effectively made that a spokesman's role, will be interesting to see how that develops. Is Brown effectively handing control back to the foreign office but keeping the blair camp stink around it so he can distance himself from all those foreign policy disasters?

That or that was the deal that was struck for Milliband not to stand for leader and split the party in two.

*aaagh, just spotted Blears has the community post, whatever that means *

Well I know 3 people who have emailed or written to her and never had a reply so that would suggest a backlog, unless she has never had any intention of answering them in which case I guess it doesn't count as a backlog.

I do know someone who got a reply but it was a - insert name standard letter which didn't actually answer his enquiry.

To be fair, we ravaged their women and pillaged their country for a few hundred years....they're just doing it back now. Have you not seen Braveheart? Just be glad we no longer have to let our wives sleep with the Lord of the Manor on your wedding night! Can't see too many women being thrilled with the prospect of ol' Gordy winking at them with his good eye before having "neo-endogenous growth" and his wicked way.

To be fair Driot-de-Seigneur was just something your Norman ruling class type exercised over whomsoever he ruled, be he Saxon, Celt or Pict. Braveheart has about as much historical accuracy as the dodgy dossier; it's useful only to pump up Scotsmen before a football game against the English that they'll probably lose anyway.

You can keep your meaningless friendlies.

I may have to mention that penalty miss and that goal.

My mate phoned me up from a pub in Annan at half time informing me how we were going to be drubbed and how they had all been watching braveheart all morning.

So confident was he that he gave me the phone number of the pub (pre mobile days) in case he forgot to gloat after the game I should ring him so he could pile on the abuse.

Strangely the landlord could find noone of his description frantically waving that he didn't want to speak in the pub after the game?!?

Anyway, Miss Jowell...never answers her phone either...

    • I don't know how it works now but my late parents had little money when they were retired (just state pension and they rented their flat) and they used to take their cat to the Blue Cross (In Victoria if I remember correctly) where treatment was free for those who could'nt afford a private vet. I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
