Agree that it's just a token gesture, but Mick's post has made me think, it would actually be really funny if they got 2 girls who actually knew NOTHING about the game, just for comedy value.

Waitrose or M&S TYPE supermarket - do we want one on LL?
Keef replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is a good pet shop on Sydenham Road, more or less opposite the dolphin pub. -
What is it really like after having a baby
Keef replied to Fuschia's topic in The Family Room Discussion
When is the baby due Karter? RE Prams / buggies, it really does depend what you're after. McLarens are indeed the best, if you want light weight, easy to fold up, good "run around". However, when the baby is small, you might want something bigger, with more room underneith for all the crap that comes with kids, and maybe a "travel system" where you can clip the carry cot / car seat straight on to the top of the buggy. -

From a bloke?s perspective, I think it's about realising that you're not particularly important for a while. I felt like I was just the helper for a while, and at times, probably felt a bit sorry for myself, poor unloved me, she's got her baby now, and doesn't need me anymore. Or you spend ages making a nice meal, and the wife will be so tired, she'll go to bed without eating it. But you just have to grow up, and get on with it. With regards, what to buy, my advise would be not to spend a fortune on stuff, because you will hardly use most of it, and you'll get given loads of it too! We had the really nice Moses basket, with the nice dark wooden stand, and all that jazz. It took about 2 nights, before we realised that baby would wake up and cry when Mrs Keef tried to put her back in it after a feed, so she very quickly came in to the bed full time, and the basket was never used at night again (although still handy to pop baby in during the day, when it goes to sleep. Funnily enough, we had this conversation with some friends the other day, and came to the conclusion that the single most important things to have in the early days, are plenty of baby grows, and plenty of muslins! You won't believe how useful a square of material can be! -
I must admit I rarely visit the library, but my wife definitely does, and since having our daughter, the local library has been invaluable!

What supernatural/seemingly supernatural things have you witnessed ?
Keef replied to KidKruger's topic in The Lounge
Me too, and I find it a bit unsettling sometimes. Don't think there is anything supernatural about it though. When I was in the first year of uni, my girlfriend was living in an all girls hall, and she and at least 2 other girls were convinced they'd seen ghosts. Thing is, I'd stay with her there all the time, and I'd always be asleep when the ghosts decided to put in an appearance! Now, my ex had her faults, but she wasn't a liar, and I knew her well enough to know that she was scared, and believed what she was telling me she'd seen (2 different ghosts, in her room at different times, I think one was wearing a robe like a monk). I tried suggesting that the big tree outside the window tended to cast shadows on her walls, and stuff like that, but she was adamant, and went in to some detail about what she believed she'd seen. In the end, her room, and those of a couple of other girls, were "exorcised" by a priest (I wasn't there for the actual process, but I suspect they did a blessing or something). I never saw anything, and I don't really believe in ghosts and things, but I believe that the girls believed in what they were saying. It was all rather odd. -
I haven't even read the other thread. My main issue with "past lives", is that they always seem very grand and impressive. I think I'd be more inclined to believe it if someone said to me "you lived an unremarkable life, had 4 kids, and died of a heart attack at the age of 73". But people wouldn't be so keen on paying to find that out.

I can't be bothered measuring, but I do have a very short tongue. Hardly gets out of my mouth.

Food and a hip flask full of jack daniels. Maybe a pillow, possibly even a sleeping bag if you've at a compact one.

If not, try Richard Walshe on 07957117955. He's also local.

It's not a big name, that is probably the only reason. The big name prams and buggys are quite simply overpriced for what they are, but they get away with it because people want "the best" for their babies, especially first ones, so they spend a fortune on prams, thinking they're the best, when actually you can get just as good a lot cheaper.

As I said on FB, the Karen Brady comment made me laugh. Other than that, it is well out of order.

It's still only a 2 horse race though, lets be honest.

Keef replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No I didn't mean it, but also not sure how my post can be read that way. And yes, David did point out a couple of fair ways to save cash, one of which relies upon you having a nice friendly butcher in your area. Anyway, I didn't come on here to make it about rich and poor people either, despite the fact that some people (David) think that I live to have a go at the middle classes in ED. I was genuinely just responding to a point. So, back on topic. Funnily enough I agree with Sean about this particulr question, of an "aspirational" *gags* supermarket in ED. -

That's fair enough, but you seemed to be talking more generally. -

Not sure what that is supposed to mean, but anyway. I was listening to Radio 4 about a week ago, when they were talking about people budgeting, especially at the moment. Lots of people were phoning in / emailling in, saying that they look at leaflets through the door from supermarkets, and they go and get the bargains. I was actually quite surprised to hear it, but funnily enough, I didn't think they were lying, so yes, I believe it, especially at the moment when belts are being tightened. I know supermarkets have offers to get people through the doors, but people who are out shopping for their family of 4 or 5, will go and get stuff at the cheapest possible price. I'm not talking about me here David, I'm rubbish with money, and regularly blow a load of cash in the crappy little Tesco around the corner from me. However, my mum always amazed me, how she'd make her (very small) budget last, and she's not the only one. -

I also agree with that last bit. If you're going like for like, perhaps. People will tend to go in to the supermarket and buy what is on offer though, and that is how they save. Oh, and your cooking was very nice really. >:D< -

Seriously though Sean, your circumstances are different from a lot of families, who rely on all the offers in the supermarkets, that you just don't get in the local shops. -

Northcross Market to open on Sundays?
Keef replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As a resident of Sydenham, I feel that the road closure could send loads of traffic up our way, so I expect to get a home visit for consultation too James. I dont care that you're giving up your Saturday to take on a thankless task, I want more damn it. I expect you to bleed. -
Also, for anyone wanting to do a party for younger kids, St Clement's church hire out their hall for afternoon parties.
-
Upstairs at the Magnolia? (that way there is a bar for the parents!)
