But what I can't understand is, they surely must have known what kind of gig they were coming to. You don't just stick a pin in a list of London gigs on WeGotTickets and shell out your money at random? Edited for typo
  2. Only just seen this thread. The group of tossers concerned actually came from Bournemouth to have a "night out". I know this because they told one of the people they quarrelled with in the car park where they were from (who then told me), and they told the bar manager they were on a night out. Why they decided to come to a folk night in East Dulwich for their "night out" and then proceed to talk through it, who knows. Maybe they didn't like Dave Swarbrick, so why bloody buy tickets? It wasn't a sudden decision to come - they had bought advance tickets online. I know this because we know the postcodes of purchasers, and some of them were indeed from the Bournemouth area. One of them (female) followed me into the ladies where she proceeded to insult me whilst I was otherwise engaged in the adjoining cubicle. Basically I/we took the view that the talking was less disruptive than attempting to eject them would be. Their response to being told that they were spoiling other people's enjoyment of the music was "Well they're spoiling mine by wanting me to be quiet" and "You don't expect us to not talk all evening do you?" - er, yes, we expect you to keep quiet like everybody else you see around you is doing, except during the interval and between songs ..... We already have notices around the place asking people to respect the artists and not talk during the live music. I am now going to get a very large A3 poster printed basically saying, if you can't STFU then you will be asked to leave. Does anybody know if it is legal to kick people out of a gig if they are disturbing other people and don't respond to being asked to be quiet? We've very occasionally had similar problems in the past, but never to such an extent. Usually the only trouble is the odd person trying to blag their way in without a ticket.
  3. What happens to the spawn if the water freezes over?? Do the taddies survive?
  4. East Dulwich was namechecked in the Guardian Money supplement on Saturday as one of the places in London where property prices are rocketing.
  5. I'd love some if you could spare some at some point? Unless by some miracle some of my froglets have grown up and return to the tub :) The person who gave me spawn last year has seemingly done a runner (along with my housekeys (6) )
  6. Don't think anaglypta is the same as woodchip, is it? It's just embossed wallpaper. Very popular in the seventies :)) A pain to paint.

But my point that to a lot of people ?15 isn't "cheap" isn't affected by the fact that concessions are available, as that comment had nothing to do with the Royal Academy prices per se.
  8. Lots of frogspawn due then, Lousmith :))

No my gigs are not "more expensive"! They are ?11/7 advance, ?12/8 on the door. How is that more expensive than ?15? Somebody help me out here, am I being very thick? How do you define "cheap"?? ETA: Defintion of Cheap

  11. civilservant Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Did all your froglets from last year move away, > Sue? I do hope a few stuck around! xxxxxxx They were still around at the start of the Winter, and there are places around my garden where they could have hidden/hibernated, but I haven't seen any since then :-S
  12. No sign of froggies in my tiny pond :-S Though a cat was showing great interest in it the other day ....
  13. Probably a designer dress at ?5k or whatever may be considered "value for money" by some people. That doesn't make it "cheap". To say ?15 is "cheap" is coming from the perspective of somebody who isn't on a very small income. I run music gigs, and we give a 33% discount to people who are unwaged, even though we generally have to pay the musicians a lot of money. It would be nice if galleries did the same. Some of them do.

    The Reliant

I received two identical emails from The Reliant. I answered both of them. Then I sent a third email asking why I'd not had an answer to my queries. I haven't had a response to any of my emails. Why did they bother emailing me if they can't be bothered to respond to my replies? I'm not impressed.
  15. Excellent! :))
  16. I wasn't referring to the value or otherwise of the ticket price, I was referring to your statement that it "seems pretty cheap." I meant, to a lot of people including myself, ?15 isn't "cheap", regardless of how great value for money it might be. If I misunderstood what you meant, then apologies.
  17. Blimey! I haven't read that word since Earthly Powers. ?It was the afternoon of my eighty-first birthday, and I was in bed with my catamite when Ali announced that the archbishop had come to see me.? Somebody nominated it as the best first sentence in fiction. Anyway, back to the CPT, I sincerely hope the Ladies is going to be improved from the one tiny cubicle they had before. If there was somebody standing at the basin, you couldn't get into the bog, either :))

    Mice!

  19. I'm with Plusnet, and they keep sending me info about some super duper thing they've got in the area, which may well be fibre, but as it goes straight into the recycling when it arrives, I can't be sure :))

    Indian Food

I think they're all very variable, but Dulwich Tandoori (not Tandoori Nights) would get my overall vote if you're looking for a curry type dish. Indian Mischief if you're looking for more interesting Indian food. But if I was looking for quality Indian food round here I'd avoid Lordship Lane and walk the ten or so minutes to Ganapati ....
  21. There are other threads re exactly the same thing happening on previous occasions, including in the same part of ED. I would have thought phoning 999 was somewhat inappropriate, scam or not, but if that's what the SNT say then next time they come to my door I will, instead of telling them the stuff they are selling is overpriced carp. :))

  23. David Shrigley knows who it is
  24. Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ?15 seems pretty cheap to me. xxxxxxx Presumably that's because you're not living on a pension or otherwise unwaged.
  25. This is a constant theme on here, and a constant theme of mine is that people need to report every single item which they don't receive, so that Royal Mail can identify any patterns and nail the thief (if there is one). There is a compensation process, but it only applies to specific delivery methods. However if things go missing, Complaints can be sent to Royal Mail HERE
