  1. I though Eclair was my neighbour in Camberwell. Oops I mean The Grove. Is ED claiming her too?
  2. I don't laugh. Just ask that you weigh the benefits of making it easier for people to come to Peckham and for local residents to get into Central London and beyond easier (and more environmentally friendly) against trying to create a depot you can live with.
  3. I don't disagree but many of her (Eileen's) arguments (I say her because they all come from her not some large collective voice) are based on her filling in blanks with what she fears, not working with authorities to make it special. To say a depot will ruin Peckham Town Centre is just foolish. It's like saying Liverpool Street Station is so awful because it just ruins the City. No, it enhances it. If it were not built yet, I could scare the community into believing all that steel and track and trains would ruin things. As it happens, it's a landmark. It also just amuses me (I don't care much about the Tram to be fair) that Peckham Vision spends so much time demanding what they want but refuse to support this major initiative. Amusing.
  4. Alan Dale will hate me again but a few more points. Peckham is in line for a Tram (if Eileen doesn't block it) and a tube. ED has promise of more and better too. Also, I note references here and on the petition about 'buses from ED take 45 mintues to London Bridge at rush hour'. I'd say 'welcome to Camberwell'. It's actually closer to central London (London Bridge) than East Dulwich (hell it's zone two almost zone one NOT almost zone 3 like ED) and from many points, there are very limited bus routes that can take 45 minutes to London Bridge at rush hour. So what we're saying here is Peckham and East Dulwich deserve better transport and quicker access to London than Camberwell. Not saying it is wrong, just offering clarity for debate.
  5. Rich. Your Councillors run the Borough - Richard Thomas has access to the big pots of cash and your Leisure Centre is fully funded for refurb. Sure, they miss the odd school line issue but you've hardly room to complain. Poor us in *******well have no power, no access, no money.
  6. Do you track all of our IP addresses and know where we are posting from (our offices; homes, etc.)? I don't see that referred to in the T&C's.
  7. Good luck. In four hours you've spread it across multiple websites and off to a good start with 21 signatures. Hope you win the fight.
  8. So Alan, London Bridge is oversubscribed. Only six tracks and they can't do more without destroying a lot of old buildings. So they have to prioritise. Somebody can't get in. Do we tell the people of Kent and suburbia they have to add to their hour long journey - or the people of Camberwell they have to take a bus that takes all of 25 minutes? Hell you can even walk to London Bridge from Camberwell. Cycling takes 10 minutes. Kent doesn't have that luxury. It's a real issue and the same NIMBY thinking. You want to keep your service, you have to take it away from those much farther out.
  9. A few points. Most campaigns sponsored by Ms Conn tend to be filled with skewed information and she's not terribly willing to hear otherwise. I simply advise those to be careful that the whole noise isn't based on half the story. Second, you must remember being 'urban' (particularly Camberwell) means trains aren't considered necessary transport. They are more for suburban users travelling long distances into urban London. Tfl sees urban areas sufficiently served by buses. That's the plan for Camberwell and to a degree, East Dulwich. I'm not supporting the plans and may even sign the petition. Just be careful.
  10. One does love a read of the SLP. You can play 'bingo' with words like: Yob Shocking Murder Gruesome All good fun. And you have to love how they equally berate yobs and but blame local Government for the mistreatment of poor victims on Estates.
  11. Don't admit that publicly and when asked, refer to 'ED village'
  12. Even I, a proud GROVE resident (we're dropping the Camberwell bit) laughed out loud.
  13. It is a bit minor celeb the blog world. We've one in SE5 who I happened to sit near a while back at a local restaurant. When someone stopped to speak then left, he said to his party 'I wish I could go out without being recognised'. I nearly lost my scallop.
  14. I believe all immigrants deserve a council flat and IVF. There. I started it.
  15. Yes. Let's all be more Catholic.
  16. I believe success in the one topic provides you more space in the other.
  17. Wow. All over the map. Should Council tenants be allowed IVF?
  18. I can agree with all of that. Alan you're right. Not sure what the law degree encompasses - Open Uni won't cut mustard for those contracts but others should open the doors to riches. Big difference of course between a law degree and a trained lawyer. Yes downsouth, I agree re: the means and the means testing. I once attended a gov't meeting where a member of the public complained that she and her son downstairs paid less tax than her daughter and her new baby, who had just moved upstairs to a two bedroom. I could only thing 'a family of four with five bedrooms'.
  19. As stated I'm 100% behind giving housing help to the truly vunerable and key workers. However, I do not believe it is a right - especially for generations. We've created a culture of dependency and it sometimes actually makes it difficult to house those who really need help. The one that gets me is three and four generation families who spend most of their time complaining for improvements. 'My family has been here four generations and we demand better!'. I think 'why have you been there four generations?'
  20. Yes that was conveniently overlooked. Probaly best. My views on subsidised, public owned housing wouldn't go down a storm with most.
  21. Chavy. A quick clarification. Your Council house may be technically owned by Southwark Council, but I would suggest it is actually owned by all of us. Do take good care of our collective asset. Personally, I'm happy to fund it for the truly vunerable, though I think very few should require such a hand out for a lifetime.
  22. Spangles. Please come join us in Camberwell. Our average age for mothers is 15 and all on the NHS.
  23. What an excellent point - those who hate an area when it comes up indeed are those who are too late in attaining a larger property or a property at all.
  24. The point is we're all still hoping 10 years on. I say it is a flawed, failed experiment. But I would very much like to be proven wrong with time. And I would like my tax money to stop paying for subsidised rents.
  25. The subsidy is gone so shops have to stand on their own feet. The 'local' market is hardly enough to support what is really a middle class group trying to thrive as an island. It hasn't work. It won't work without subsidy.
