  1. Climbing the next 'rung' doesn't require static prices (or rising). If I want to climb to the next rung, I assume my house price has risen at the same rate as the next rung - so it matters little.
  2. Well said Clare A. Those who throw grenades generally don't bother to participate. They've all the facts they need to brandish those keen for more information as closed-minded bigots. I still find it funny that the left wing extremists on this board who believe 'stand up for drug users at all costs' find themselves supporting big business.
  3. I can assure you pressure groups, in particular this and the SE5 Forum, have had little if anything to do with it. This has been on the cards for some time. You can't really expect a few emails in the last six months prompted such a quick turnaround? Deluded.
  4. I agree 1000 signatures is a good result (what's that four train carriages?) - do remember it is one part of a bigger fight just to maintain the status quo. It's hardly a 'very positive' step forward. At best, it is a good start toward not letting things worsen. Windsor Walk is a result. Years of hard work have finally paid off...
  5. Yes this has been in the pipeline for some time now. These matters just take time. Glad to see it progressing.
  6. It's the age old debate, yes Sean. Those who own property feel quite differently from those who have not. Indeed.
  7. We should be grateful to see Lady Harman actually inside her constituency!
  8. My jaw joins Chav's on the floor when I recollect where I would be....
  9. No. I was using precise language offered in the original post.
  10. Of course! They've surely no sense of community if they look elsewhere and should be punished.
  11. Oh and if their parents have benefitted from the price rise (assuming one), would they have to forfeit all profit to subsidise the child's purchase?
  12. So how would this work exactly? Legislation gauranteeing any person born at a particular address is gauranteed a right to buy within one mile of that address from age 20-25 for market value at birth plus simple inflation? If the current market rate happens to be lower, would they be required to buy at the higher price?
  13. Why do people believe if they are born and raised in a community they have a right to be able to afford to buy a property there?
  14. Yes on street burglary it appears so. I doubt it is overall, though as stated previously, I'm in The Grove and choosing to drop the 'Camberwell' bit. Of course Peckham should be better given the millions we've all paid to regenerate things. Shame it hasn't really worked out yet. Bellenden is nice, if not a bit tired now and losing its luster. Subsidy is gone now so we'll see how it pans out.
  15. We in Camberwell have a saying 'thank god for Peckham'. Sorry Peckham boy, not only is central Peckham a dump and quite dangerous, it is despite MILLIONS of taxpayers funds being poured in. I wouldn't have minded so much the investment if the people living there didn't just continue to destroy the place.
  16. Indeed I do host a party annually, which rates highly among my guests. I love Georgian splendour and make no apologies for going over the top. As for tax evasion, I do not participate nor condone such. But it seems a vicious circle. We're arguing people should pay far more taxes so Gov't can have more funds to pay out to fraudsters. I guess it is a form of trickle down.
  17. Oh don't get me started on housing benefit. I'm need my vapours.
  18. Ah but spend it to fuel us all. I hadn't realised all kids get state benefit. Marvelous! And better yet that you are teaching them to save Alan.
  19. Perhaps you are correct dear Alan. Though I would suspect tax evaders re-invest keeping the economy more bouyant and the 'pyramid' more robust. I'm curious why one should receive child benefit from the state if not really needed. I'm sure I've missed something.
  20. I'm happy to have helped. I hope it got you through the rough patch and back on your feet. That's what it's all about, yes? Well done.
  21. Oh goodness no. They use traps via post. You know 'you've won a new car come claim it here' type thing. Marvelous.
  22. I was amused/bemused to read Southwark tops the list in terms of caseload when it comes to benefit claimants. I also just read how Lambeth is piloting voice software that can flag when someone may be telling a fib, and thus demand a higher threshold of documentation/proof for claims. So with so many of you out there, I thought I would offer a stage. Are you on benefit? What type? Do you feel it is enough for given your circumstances? Do you believe there is too much fraud? I'm anxiously await replies, tissue in hand to dab off the spit.
  23. -- moved topic --
  24. Perhaps I am*. *in that way
  25. My home is valued at far more than most over in ED, which is the great irony/tragedy. I owe nothing on it but have spent a lifetime restoring it. Behind my closed gate and door I'm happy. At my age, moving isn't terribly inviting.
