  1. I would add Frisco, it is absolutely fine to have a laugh at those perceived as 'rich toffs' but there isn't equal latitude given to those who live their lives off the system and destroy rather than create community.
  2. Oh that hurts? How can one's property values be high enough? I don't kid myself that my arguments aren't going to win. But do you all really blame us for giving it a go? For those living on a fairly busy road, wouldn't you welcome the chance to close it to local traffic only? As for improvements, as stated previously in this thread, the litter louts, street drinkers/urination brigades and just roaming yoofs have lessened. I can't explain why but it has improved. A 'no traffic' zone somehow becomes a 'no go' zone.
  3. Settled then. Go in for the treatment. Go on. I'll pick up your tab (again).
  4. I know Andrew. But things have gotten a bit better since it closed. It's just a small start on an otherwise frustrating journey (no pun intended).
  5. Oh dear Chav. I believe this is what they call a breakthrough. With an extra hour gained this weekend, it's down to the job centre bright and early. My work is done.
  6. ..and no blame for those who dirty to station in the first place.
  7. Absolutely correct Andrew. But it's the one chance those of us who've invested in keeping Camberwell a decent place have to barricade the increasingly declining tip that is Camberwell proper from our community. If the rest of the place is happy to go to he** we've no option but to pull up the draw bridges. Frank, but true.
  8. One can discuss these matters openly (read not 'shy and retiring') without the not-so-subtle attempt at simply producing shock value (or bringing up one's breakfast).
  9. Chav - how very charming.
  10. Retired and keep a watch on the markets to see how much I'm earning, keep a watch on this site to see who is spending it. Please Chav don't be offended.
  11. Wow! Common sense prevails. I'm impressed. A fantastic project and the naysayers on that website are making themselves look bad, and making it difficult for those fighting real causes of concern re: the preservation of green spaces.
  12. Check with Network Rail. I'm sure they'll tell you what to do with it.
  13. Yes - it is arguably one of the finest Georgian Terraces (throughout the Grove) in the whole of London. It speaks of a time when the village of Camberwell ruled the roost in suburban London. Sadly all 'round it went to the dogs. Save East Dulwich of course. Once our poor cousin, you are now our best hope. Please take us in.
  14. Poor ratty. That's the best argument thus far - I may re-think it.
  15. You are right. But something about the road closure has made the road feel even more inaccessible by the 'riff raff' too. I can't explain it, but it feels as a no-go area and the litter louts/street drinkers etc. have lessened.
  16. Or 'it must be gay pride again - marvelous!' It is such a festive time about....
  17. Bob I'd rather not get too technical, but it was two break-ins generally. And not just to steal but to destroy. I would've gladly given them cash at the door (had I been home) instead of them feeling the need to destroy things that cannot be replaced and wipe human excrement all over antique furniture. But it's my fault for treasuring such items handed down to me or rescued from destruction. I'm to blame no doubt.
  18. Excellent point RuthE. The new 'mixed use' strategy. Is it working? It seems to me these mixed use estates are now filled with 'for sale' signs. The private owners are frustrated and moving. Does anyone have such experience? Perhaps I've signalled the 'lounge' announcement....
  19. Indeed. Twice on a large scale but actually more importantly, the daily tossing of rubbish bothers me even more. And it isn't just yoots, it is fully grown folk tossing their beer cans and even needles. A needle exchange wouldn't go amiss. Ooops...
  20. Oh pardon me. I wouldn't want to cause distress. But I do believe there are two sides here and stand by my statement that renters are keen for every possible protection but when the shoe is on the other foot, they want to bear no responsibility.
  21. And apologies Alan. I hadn't realised you lived there. Had they been built in 1882 I'd be more sympathetic, which I realise is snobbish. 1982 explains a lot. I'm sure its residents are utterly charming.
  22. Pardon my (slight) hyperbole, I've been to JoBurgh and don't wish to become that. But my point is we will put the blame and responsibility once again on those of us who are always working very hard and paying through the nose. 'Bad rich people' trying to protect their turf from the 'poor disadvantaged souls'. A bit more balance in finding a solution that caters for everyone but holds those accountable who are intent on destruction would be welcomed.
  23. Ghastly! I hadn't realised it had earned the title of 'village'. How very quaint!
  24. Do Downsouth - I think it is the way forward. I believe those of us who work very hard to maintain our neighbourhoods and respect communities have gone way beyond the extra mile. Those who have little respect for their own much less our neighbourhoods aren't going to join the responsible brigade so let's just erect walls and leave them to it. If they want to destroy their own homes fine, but please don't destroy mine. Is that too much to ask? I'm sure Chav will blame me and absolve those who destroy but that's the way I see it. I'm heartned that many of you reading this will gasp a bit but through your silence be thinking 'he's right'.
