  1. Came across the Museum of Childhood recently. Near Bethnal Green off the A11. Must go there. We are soooo lucky living in London!
  2. So good to hear from one of the artists and SO sorry that it costs more than you are getting! I think any references to people, times, objects whatever that the carving represents should be well publicised. You implied it's still going on (your tenses were in the present...!) but there's the Councillor reckoning it is done! Good luck and thanks for your hard work (having seen many glimpses!)
  3. It's not just religion, it's testosterone. MT had both as does TB. A short true story. An American friend of mine lives on her own on an island. When she was 98, she was taken poorly and taken to the mainland. They asked her what day it was, where she thought she was, and who was the President. She got the first two, and refused to answer the third. Getting very concerned for her mental health they kept asking her. Finally, she yelled out, "Don't make me name that son of a bitch". (It was Geroge Dubbya). She's about 101 now and doing fine.
  4. Who TF are the Unmentionables?
  5. I reckon market forces in the area mean Southwark Council may persuade the Dulwich Estate to allow Tesco or whomever to build a drive through / park local store there. Or, of course, it could be a Wetherspoons....! But I heard a rumour of an M&S ... (Sorry couldn't resist)
  6. You could have given us a link! Instead, I have, here: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/social-housing-landlords-cheated-by-repair-firm-mears-group-tribunal-hears-9085454.html
  7. Challenge them. And remember that ?30k does not buy windows for a flat, ours is a 2 bed on a peninsular of a block, ie. windows on 3 sides plus French windows on to a private balcony, and they did new doors. Price in 2009 ?8,500 ish. So challenge everything and ALSO be ACTIVE in your estate and attend the weekly site office meetings which will be held in the builders' site offices on the estate, and if you can not attend them demand to see the Minutes of the same. On our estate only two of us ever attended those meetings and they were invaluable.
  8. I am always trying to be a 'now' person, but when I first moved here in 1983 what is now The Actress was a Rock pub which often had lots of big bikes outside it and my little 200cc would join them. The music was great. But now I love it as it is but admit I don't go down there every night. And for those of you like Louisa who seems to revel in the past especially in Peckham I do recommend you join The Peckham Society which seeks to keep the memories of Peckham alive especially for older people who may not live here anymore... Oh, and Primark took over where BHS left off!
  9. Oh and good for you for posting! Another idea would be to just wrap up and stand outside and give them away, being a good advert for your own place!
  10. spider69 indeed you're right. I was thinking of Cllr Ian Wingfield - Councillor for Leaseholders or something!
  11. Yeah well we know your thinking. I can't wait to see it and had a sneak peak today, I don't think much has been done recently! Maybe he's got another one on the go!
  12. Good for you for your immediate self-protection reaction! They do not expect that, so well done for screaming. Glad you're okay.
  13. Her quirkiness seems incredibly genuine, after years of slog, and not at all affected.... (I mean that genuinely)!
  14. As does the Post Office up the south west corner of Peckham Rye / Lordship Lane.
  15. I think sticking to water is a bit much but preferable to the shop bought expensive chemical rubbish that they buy in packs of 12. What if they can prove they juiced 4 oranges and put the juice in a bottle! Whatever happened to Sunny Delight! ("Find it in the fridge counter" - even though it was so full of chemicals it technically did not ever need to be put in a fridge.)
  16. Maxxi - very funny re PopUp Nick! Another support here.
  17. Indeed. I do not have a yellow dog, nor yellow dog poo.
  18. OK I now live in East East Dulwich. When the cartogrophers were drawing the official line between USA and Canada they came to a little farmhouse and asked the guy which side of the line he'd like them to place him on. He said Stick me on the USA side, I'm sick of these cold Canadian winters.
  19. What's your percentage?
  20. Mr PR loves chocolate and is absolutely Not indifferent. Mind you he is only partial to one specific type of chocolate: MINE.
  21. PLEASE see the other thread on the same subject and the advice given therein. :D
  22. Since I could not live without it, it must be.
  23. Congratulations verds! And glad Mr Scott replied. He's never replied to help me.
  24. As I said on another thread I had started, there WAS information, posted on every bus stop on the route. Yes it is inconvenient, and yes it means we have to walk further, but they did put the warning up before the proposed start date even though that start date was itself not correct....
  25. Hi all Regarding any council service charges that you feel are far too high, I earlier recommended that you go straight to the Home Owners Unit in Rotherhithe and speak to the person named on your invoice. I still recommend this. After pursuing my own case with them, they first - as I said above - knocked ?900 off it realising it was outside of the 18 month rule - and now, they tell me they have 'adjusted' it again and knocked another ?600 off. Had I paid the ?2,100 without questioning they probably would never have done anything. Now, I only owe roughly ?500 odd. I have asked for a detailed statement including reasons for the deductions. Meanwhile, anyone receiving statements should have also received a leaflet from the Citizens Advice Bureau. If not, here are the Leaseholders CAB details: 020 7237 9532 and [email protected] Go get 'em!
