  1. It was a bit of a non story on the telly which she was also interviewed on. Eileen. You can't control market forces. We're living in a capitalist society. That's what happens.
  2. On BBC Local news there will be an item about this too. By the time you read this it may have been on!
  3. Not us! Whereabouts are you?
  4. Never saw that coming. Assumed Tesco or Sainsburys!
  5. And how come you did not read the history of the area first? And now you've told us it won't be a surprise! (An Angel would have been good though, wooden it!)
  6. So what's the sculpture going to be do we think? A tree stump? (! ) An angel as seen by William Blake?
  7. Thanks for info. "Peknam" ! CGS ideas are good so I look forward to this. When is the unveiling ceremony Morganico.com?
  8. jane1 I said where it was. Top narrow end of Peckham Rye Common, junction with East Dulwich Road opposite the nursery-ex-public-toilets x
  9. Tomorrow? Rose? Jamie Does Beer?
  10. This one had been dead for years. Indeed there was a rumour I heard that it was fake and doubled as a Vodafone mast! But recently indeed a lot of trees were cut shorter, and some of the reasons included that they were seriously at risk of damaging homes (those near homes, obviously!) and in the park there were health issues of some of the trees. The Arborculturalist (I think that's the title? probably not) from Southwark Council did a thorough recce with the Tree Surgeon.
  11. A long standing dead tree is now being worked on by folks and they are surrounded by a plastic surround as they work. Wonder what it'll be! You can already see shapes at the base emerging. This one is in Great Malvern. http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b595/PeckhamRose/66080add-c94d-4ab6-9b8a-91c98af29b85_zpsa514219f.jpg
  12. Done. Great idea.
  13. Is that you Louisa bottom left in the glasses getting the basket? I also recall there was a Sainsburys there when I first moved to my flat (30 years ago yesterday btw) but now there is a Morrisons and the cinema is a GOOD thing.
  14. Marion Grey is the Manageress and I signed up to weekly emails from her so I know what the local is showing. I do not often go, but I think you are being mighty unfair slagging it off when they do their best, and again what is the point of slagging it off here and not directly to the Manageress. It tries to cater for all sorts with mother and baby shows and so on, and it does occasionally do screenings of local / art movies although shows all the big blockbusters too. It's not perfect but it is independent and cheaper than most and does try hard.
  15. Sorry, I should not assume! John Beasley is a local man who has written many books on the local area and is the editor of The Peckham Society Magazine. If you email him [email protected] he will reply or forward to someone more appropriate who will.
  16. And there was some delicious local brew at the Peckham Village Hall day a few Saturdays ago. Hope to drink that again tomorrow Saturday.
  17. You may want to contact John Beasley who may know who might want to have sight of this photo, for historical records!
  18. Mr PR said air ambulance was around too.
  19. local builder Mark turns up on time to appear on telly! Who'd he let down. No builders turn up on time!
  20. Awwww bless 'em! Reminds me as always how incredibly lucky I am to live where I am with no mortgage now. Very lucky.
  21. And how many cyclists and pedestrians were on their mobiles at the time. Can we just stop always blaming just one or two sections of the road users?
  22. At the entrances to Peckham Rye Park are lots of notices telling people that they are not allowed to have BBQs, but sure enough today I saw a couple with a BBQ and the fire had to be less than 12 inches from a whole large area of one of the many cut long dry grass sections. I approached and politely asked them to put the fire out, explaining that there were notices that it was not allowed but the reason being that it was dangerous. To be fair they put it out. I feared an argument or "What the hell has it got to do with you?" argument. Be brave! But where is the common sense these days! (And other comments making me sound one hundred and twenty years old.)
  23. Exactly.I hardly ever use busses and for when I do I have an Oyster card. Some of you are making the assumption everyone thinks ahead like we do, and also that they are able to know about everything. What about occasional visitors to London? I think the few who use cash should be allowed to use it. And by the way, I know a lot of people old and young who still use cash at supermarkets and other / all shops. Indeed it is often quicker to do so. I shall always use cash, Oyster is useful and I would be happy to be able to use it to tap in and out for all things I buy, too. But please don't assume everyone's capable and socially aware of everything like some of you are.
  24. Kids / Young Adults. To me Young Adults is kids! And if someone has a free Oyster card stolen, it can be done for spite, and the result is the same, robbed kid can't get on bus.
