HonaloochieB, an American band fIREHOSE also sang "I am aware there are definite errors in my thinking. Example: Knowing I can't know". I agree with the We are born, we live, we die, thing. Good thread, this!
I just got 45% lopped off my bill, because Southwark Citizens' Advice Bureau, Leaseholder section, had me ask a vital question of the Council's Home Ownership Unit regarding the invoice. Council answered OOPS, we overcharged you. ALWAYS get advice.
It was a bit of a non story on the telly which she was also interviewed on. Eileen. You can't control market forces. We're living in a capitalist society. That's what happens.
And how come you did not read the history of the area first? And now you've told us it won't be a surprise! (An Angel would have been good though, wooden it!)
This one had been dead for years. Indeed there was a rumour I heard that it was fake and doubled as a Vodafone mast! But recently indeed a lot of trees were cut shorter, and some of the reasons included that they were seriously at risk of damaging homes (those near homes, obviously!) and in the park there were health issues of some of the trees. The Arborculturalist (I think that's the title? probably not) from Southwark Council did a thorough recce with the Tree Surgeon.
A long standing dead tree is now being worked on by folks and they are surrounded by a plastic surround as they work. Wonder what it'll be! You can already see shapes at the base emerging. This one is in Great Malvern. http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b595/PeckhamRose/66080add-c94d-4ab6-9b8a-91c98af29b85_zpsa514219f.jpg
Is that you Louisa bottom left in the glasses getting the basket? I also recall there was a Sainsburys there when I first moved to my flat (30 years ago yesterday btw) but now there is a Morrisons and the cinema is a GOOD thing.
Marion Grey is the Manageress and I signed up to weekly emails from her so I know what the local is showing. I do not often go, but I think you are being mighty unfair slagging it off when they do their best, and again what is the point of slagging it off here and not directly to the Manageress. It tries to cater for all sorts with mother and baby shows and so on, and it does occasionally do screenings of local / art movies although shows all the big blockbusters too. It's not perfect but it is independent and cheaper than most and does try hard.
Sorry, I should not assume! John Beasley is a local man who has written many books on the local area and is the editor of The Peckham Society Magazine. If you email him [email protected] he will reply or forward to someone more appropriate who will.
At the entrances to Peckham Rye Park are lots of notices telling people that they are not allowed to have BBQs, but sure enough today I saw a couple with a BBQ and the fire had to be less than 12 inches from a whole large area of one of the many cut long dry grass sections. I approached and politely asked them to put the fire out, explaining that there were notices that it was not allowed but the reason being that it was dangerous. To be fair they put it out. I feared an argument or "What the hell has it got to do with you?" argument. Be brave! But where is the common sense these days! (And other comments making me sound one hundred and twenty years old.)
