  1. The current debate in the news concerns 'social' terminations. It has been legal to terminate a pregnancy on medical grounds at any gesation since the 90s when the laws were last changed. That means termination can be carried out on a pregnancy (even uto 9 months) where the 'baby' has serious medical complications which would mean that it would suffer after birth or will suffer and die (i.e. no treatment available). In these cases procedures are undertaken to ensure that the baby is not alive at birth. The law in the USA is different than here. In the USA an unborn baby is afforded rights under law and you can be procecuted for killing an unborn baby i.e. if a pregnant mother is killed by someone that person may be charged for two murders. Here unborn babies have no rights in law and thus do not have the same legal protection. Very very very rarely a termination can be carried out over 24 weeks for the sake of the health of the mother.
  2. The official Southwark Display is in Greenland Dock this Year and on November 5th. Greenland dock is virtually opposite the cinema and Bowling Alley at Surrey Quays. Lambeth fireworks are in Brockwell Park on Friday. Blackheath fireworks on Saturday. If you go yo Multimap.com there is a place to put your postcode in to see the fireworks in your area. It seems to have the big displays only. Not sure what day the Burbage road fireworks are on.
  3. Tried BC tonight. Ordered online for the 8-8.30 slot and it arrived at 8.10. Naan bread. Small, salty and quite tough. Definately not worth the extra that they cost. Vegetable selection (starter). Do not normaly get something like this. Reasonable though they had been cooked then palce in a foil dish with the lid on so were very soggy. Two different dishes - both tasted nice but portion size was small. There version of Chicken Tikka Masala is not very good. Rice - good Poppadoms - these are the type you would get in any Asian cash and carry and then pan fry (remind me of my childhood as my mum used to fry these) and thus probably the most authentic part of the meal. Price - very very expensive. Verdict: The whole family felt it was not as nice as our usual place. Will not use again. We will stick with the 2 Sisters Tandoori on Gibbon Road who have always been excellent.
  4. Pretty sure there are some on the corner of LL and Matham Grove (outside the chemist). Or at least there used to be.
  5. cannot believe how quickly Sainsburys (DKH) sold out of pumpkins last week! Hopefully they will get some more in today.
  6. I heard a rumour that parts East Dulwich had been leafleted by the police advising that residents do not open their doors to Trick or Treaters on Halloween. Can anyone confirm this?

And no apology for taking 2.5 hours > to deliver it! How can they take 2.5 hours to deliver it if it was only 40 minutes late? Presumably you ordered it for a certain time but they may not start the prep for it immediately. I would prefer mine absolutely fresh rather than started 2.5 hours previously. I will give it a try but will avoid friday and saturday for the moment
  8. Whoever he is ?10 is too much unless you have very very large house. We have bay windows up and down and it costs ?4
  9. I am pretty sure I know who the freeholder is/was. If the owner is who I think it is, why is he 'disagreeable'?
  10. Hold on a minute. Whilst I have the capacity to accept that (given some evidence of any tunnels) that it/they do exist I thought it was too damn difficult to tunnel in south east London. Well thats what they keep telling us as the reason there are no tube lines in this area. Any tunnel between Kings and the Maudsley would have to be fairly old - but for what reason and why to th institute which has been virtually completely redeveloped. It is unlikely to have remained THAT much of a secret. I will believe it if there is some evidence.
  11. I liked Spaghetti Western. But then when I first came to London (Camberwell) we frequented Spaghetti Classics which I am sure Nick Weston was involved with before opening Spaghetti Western.
  12. The bit that was demolished to make way for the Community hospital included the old surgical wards Ruskin (male) and Paxton (female), the physiotherapy suite, the Renal Unit and East Home which housed the nurses accommodation and various offices (oh what fun we had flooding those!). Much of the rest of the buildings remain but with 'community' services rather than acute stuff. The X-ray is still there at the other end along with phlebotomy (taking blood samples) and is where you go for all GP related tests as you cannot get them done at Kings anymore.
  13. This has got me thinking. St Francis was the Constance Road Workhouse before it became a hospital
  14. Hmm... I could understand a tunnel going from the basement of the older Kings building under Denmark Hill to a building in the Maudsley (although a lot of the Maudsley has been redeveloped in recent years). A tunnel between Dulwich and the Maudsley would be a major feat of engineering as the are about a mile apart (as the crow flies), have a large hill in between and a main railway line the Maudsley side of the hill. Why would anyone build such a long tunnel between Dulwich and the maudsley?
  15. I find it hard to believe that there is a tunnel going from Dulwich to the Maudsley. I trained at Kings and Dulwich and worked at the Maudsley and know of no tunnel between Kings and the maudsley
  16. St Francis Hospital used to house the Geriatric and psychiatric wards that where part of the 'Kings' domain. the psychiatric wards were truely dire!. There was also Spurgeon ward which was for Infectious Diseases (all the patients had HIV - the late 80s). Next to the hospital was Hambledon Court (which is still there) which was the residence of many healthcare workers from Kings and Dulwich. The Tunnel was vital to get from one site to the other for many staff, visitors or just people wanting a short cut between East Dulwich Grove and Dog kennel Hill.
  17. You could send them over to weed my new allotment if you like!

  19. Ah.. I see what you mean
  20. I tried to use the word social-ise the other day and that was not allowed either. Maybe it is words ending in 'ist' or 'ise'
  21. I am pretty sure I saw them filming some Spooks stuff a couple pf months ago around the wood vale/Forest hill road/ Brenchley gardens area. new series coming up so will have to watch it to see.
  22. I have moved this post to the other thread mentioned
  23. Have to say we always go to Mr Liu opposite the police Station.

When taking statements the police try their best (from experience) to tease out what happened and whether there was violence or threat of. Unfortunately there was for both my boys hence the robbery charges.
