Cannot find the old thread on this. I was wondering a year on, what people though of the lights at the junction with Dunstans and Colyton Roads. I know a number of people did not approved when they first went in but womdered if people had got used to them.

Used to use Sainsbuys a few years ago but changed to tesco as they were rubbish - sounds like they haven't improved. That was before they delivered from Sydenham. tescos used to use Surrey Quays but now have a big depot out Croydon way. They are pretty good most of the time. You can have bagless or bagged delivery - they will often put ONE item in a bag rather than filling them up. I am suprised that a number of items are not available for delivery - I guess in a depot they cannot have EVERYTHING and that is annoying. their substitutions are usually OK. I did look at Ocado a couple of years ago but was put off by the price. I will have another look

Went past the branch opposite the library - have they moved this one because it is very empty with all DVR wording gone as well. Has goose green branch reopened or have they gone?
-
which one - they have two offices. One is at Goose Green roundabout and the other is just up from the Plough

I have had an LCD TV with my virgin cable for nearly two years. I got a V+ box in January. The picture is usually pretty good but does rely on the correct settings. There are some channels which sometimes are not very clear - my son commented that the picture for the Croatia-England game was awful. It is also alot to fo with the power levels of the signal from Virgin Media. I would highly recommend looking at the articles and posting your issues on http://www.chetnet.co.uk/portal/ Unlike ANY other A forum, Chetnet is run unofficially by Virgin Media and ex NTL/Telewest employees and caters specifically for Virgin Media issues. If it not a 'gripe' site so you don't get people having a go at VM I would definately recommend it - you will get a answer from people who work with digital tv for Virgin

don't go anywhere that uses the Euro as it is way too expensive now. Just go back from France and ended up spending a shed load more cash than we did 2 years ago relatively speaking as the exchange rate is now very very poor.

I have to concur - living opposite the Cemetery is not the best any more. First noticed the parakeets there last year - they are all you can hear most of the time now. Before it was more varied and quieter

Oi! that was my reply!;-) Not sure Mrs Zephyr would be very happy on shanks' pony either (walking). Not sure I have argued in favour of 4x4s just my own car. I do not believe that they are a necessity in London. My VW Sharan is not a 4x4, it is a people carrier that is needed to take my family (including my 16 and 14 year old boys and even Mrs Zephyr) to places as a family. It had 7 seats in total which is hand as we have been know to transport my mother-in-law also so that she does not have to take her car to where ever we were going. I figured it might be responsible to do that. On a number of occasions a larger car such as mine has been used instead of an extra car with friends also. A smaller car my also make it difficult when we go to the Vendee as a family in August.

Depends where 'here' is. Fortunately I have allotments at the top of my road (Stuart Road Allotments) on the side of the Nunead reservoir. I believe there are some in ED but I know a few people who have allotments up by Dulwich College. There are also some on One Tree Hill in Honor Oak. Not sure which ones are council run - Stuart Road isn't. -

havested potatoes from the allotment for the last couple of weeks. Tomtoes are not doing well. Beans rae growing well along with the courgettes. Brussels have been got at but should be OK and hopefully will be taking some onions up soon. Only had the allotment since October so not too bad. -
My uncle had a Spitfire when I was growing up - it was great. Another uncle had an MGC - now that was a fab car! There is quite a diversity on this forum as shown by a number of threads including this one - that in its self is good. My gripe is purely personal and only surrounding my car. Now my next topic my very well be the use of bus lanes by motorcyclists (legitimately). As a biker I am all for it but I know that there is some objection.

I guessed when I started this thread that I would get caned either because I dared be against the charge or because in some eyes I am irresponsible enough to have 4 children. Do I care - not really. Lifes too short and I have more important things to worry about. I started it to get a discussion going about it but it does seem to keep reverting to a 'lets all have a go' thread. You will be pleased to know, I am sure, that from next year my car tax is virtually doubling to ?415. It may be a good idea for people to check their own cars if they were registered 2001 onwards as 43% will see an increase!
-
thats bollocks! So we should be taxed more for having more kids - is that what you are suggesting? My house is exactly the same size as all the others on the street yet half of them are occupied but couples only. Should they be penalised for not utilising the rest of their house - your arguement could work both ways.

If Porsches are included it's because > they vomit benzene not because the world doesn't > like arriviste nouveau riches. Eh? Yes Porsches are nice cars but the type being referred to is their version of a 4x4 (Cayenne). If I had one then I would expect to be taxed more (though not necessarily by the 'Congestion' charge). I don't drive one but my car would have fallen into the same category as these 4x4s as its emissions range (along with a large number of larger family cars). As I think I said that the beginning of this thread I used to drive an N reg 2.4lt Automatic Toyota Previa which did 14mpg. Two years ago we decided to get a newer car mainly as it was so fuel inefficient so we bought a Sharan as we have 4 kids (and yes it was our choice to have 4 kids). It is way more efficient however falls foul of the cut off by 8g per mile of CO2. This is the reason I have a problem with the increased charge. Everyone keeps baging on about 4x4s and seems to think it is only those that are affected. I even got an admission by the guy behind Alliance against 4x4s that this was unfair. So no, I do not feel they should be in the same category but unfortunately some of them are.

Does look fab though, don't you think? I do like the look of thouse Porsche Cayennes (sp?);-) Which ever way you look at it I am glad that I will not have to pay so much on the very rare occasions that I take my fairly common family car into town during the week. I would not argue if I had a 4x4 but this was penalising some people with smaller MPVs and estates.

Just had an email from the Porsche judicial Review as follows - interesting reading but I am sure someone on here will try to point out that the research was flawed or something. PORSCHE UPDATE ON JUDICIAL REVIEW PROCESS July 2008 Legal campaign update - Porsche wins victory in congestion charge challenge Thank you very much for your support as we challenged Mayor Livingstone's proposed ?25 congestion charge in London. As you saw for yourself, the congestion charge was a major issue in the mayoral campaign and the candidate who opposed this extension, Boris Johnson, was elected Mayor. I am pleased to inform you that, today, the Administrative Court in London has approved a consent order quashing the increase to the charge. The new Mayor's legal team accepted that the previous Mayoral administration should have taken into account research from King's College which showed that the new charge would actually increase CO2 emissions in Greater London and, consequently that the new charge could, in fact, be unlawful. Porsche has always been confident that the legal case was right and now we are proud to have played a decisive role in striking down such a blatantly political tax targeting motorists. It is expected that significant legal costs will be awarded and Porsche has decided to donate those costs to a fantastic charity called Skidz, which takes at-risk young people and trains them in motor vehicle maintenance and mechanics. This gives them the tools and confidence they need to find gainful employment and avoid a life of crime. The support from Porsche will allow Skidz to open a facility in Hillingdon, providing this opportunity to young Londoners for the first time. If you have any further comments or questions, you can contact Porsche directly by e-mail at [email protected] or telephone 08457 911 911. Thank you again for your support which was tremendously encouraging and important to the challenge. Yours sincerely, Andy Goss Managing Director BBC link - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7494495.stm

I am a long time firefox user. There re one or two issues with version 3. I have had to go to Internet Explorer to order my shopping because the pages either come out as gobbledgook or are not as they should be in other ways. I remember being told that web developers design pages to work with IE mostly and as such actually have errors which show up in other browsers such as Firefox. I am sad enough that I downloaded my certificate for being part of the World record download which has been offic**lly recognised!

There may not be a 'bus lane' camera but there may be a hig level camera in the vicinity. These are the cameras on high poles or attached to buildings that are often used to monitor traffic generally. They are fairly high resolution. I got done by one in Lewisham when I turned right at a 'no right turn'. They are not in the 'usual' line of view when driving.

There are a number of reasons why dual carriageways around London have had their speed limits changed. One is certainly safety as they are often going through built up areas or areas with more than the usual number of slip road -(A3 may be a case in point). I understand that variable speed limits have a fairly good effect on traffic congestion. The westway is not a particularly long stretch of road so I would guess that they felt it would be sater and more cost effective to have a permanent variation.
