Any idea what the problem is?

The various companies tend not to read the meters themselves but use other companies. Ours is read by someone from Accuread (we are with EON).

Got a big tree from Pretty Traditional yesterday - ?40. Not entirely sure it is going to fit but I wanted one that had a lot of foliage high up. When it is finished with I usually cut it up and put it on the fire in the living room. In fact I am just drying out the trunk of last years to put on now.

This does sometimes happen if they tried to deliver the previous day but the postie had no cards left. When back at base they fill them in and someone puts them through the door the following day. It has happened to us before

Blimey nunheadbelle, your doing well to remember the construction of the reservoir - I thought it was contructed about 1855? -

I have to agree with *Bob* - I think you are taking it a bit far. -

Speed cameras do have a deterrant effect - bear in mind that only 25% of them are 'in use' at any one time (the actual cameras are moved around between camera - they retain the flash unit). I got done for speeding recently - not proud of it - caught on a camera at 36mph in a 30mph zone. I can say categorically that the policy is currently NOT to enforce 20mph zones (I learnt this on the speed awareness course I was sent on as my punishment). A speed camera therefore would be as big a waste of time as the one on Brenchley gardens! -

It is very worrying if they did not see the sign. Of course the interesting thing is, it is exactly 'driving without due care and attention'. In this case it was not particularly dangerous but what about the next sign that is missed? Should the person plead that it is waste of time when they have missed a reduction in speed limit with the results that someone was killed or injured? A number of years ago you would have been prosecuted for driving without due car and attention. A mate of mine was done as we were caught going down a bus lane (before CCTV) -
From a promotional email from one of the 'Skip Sisters' (I know a couple of them) 'Jewellery, bags, small sculptures, cushions, cake stands, clocks and much much more - all as eco friendly as you could wish for, and really pretty too! IS there a nice stretch of Walworth Road? Not sure where you are talking about. There should be some indication of the limit depending on the size of the area in question. It is often marked on the road but I cannot remembr 'how many yards' it is supposed to be - I think it is quite a few.

How about an 'East Dulwich Borders' section of the EDF rather than having a separate forum. Peckham is very big and I am not sure there would be the interest to start with. I live in Nunhead but my heart lies in ED as do most of our friends and my younger kids school. My doctor is in ED as are my dentist and barber. I pass through ED on the way to and back from work. What happens around the periphery of ED often effects people in Ed and vice versa, whether it be technically Nunhead, Honor Oak, the Village etc. Seems the logical solution to me. At least it would be easy to trial rather than setting up a completely separate forum.

I use rye lane every now and then (usually picking up offspring). The signs are pretty clear and it is obvoius that car drivers should pull off to the left. -
The recycling lorries that southwark use have separate parts for the different items. The operatives empty the boxes into receptical on the side of the truck (separated). When full this lifts over and empties into the main body of the truck. When I have seen them in action I have often seen the operatives physically separating the items. We have two boxes and a bag. One box is for plastic only - unbelieveable how much plastic a family of six goes through. I try to put all plastic in there other than bags or plastic wrap (clean). Bags etc get taken away by Ocado or Tesco depending on who delivered that week.

Thanks Tom. Interestingly the Thames water site mention nothing of the possible long term effects of the work only the temporary disturbance of the current works. http://www.thameswater.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/SID-F8AADB64-5D08317B/corp/hs.xsl/2916.htm Is there any information about any problems with the properties above the ring main itself? I am aware that they tried to keep it beneath roads etc but some of it must have been under residential properties but its been in place for some time now. -

I have learnt a bit of geology about the local area. http://www.tunnels.mottmac.com/projects/?mode=type&id=113114 Now I know a bit about Woolwich and Reading Beds but if anyone has more information about the 'Wimbledon Fault' and why/how it goes through East Dulwich then please let me know. I guess this is the same tunnel that was discussed previously on the EDF and it the reason for the lights on Forest hill road (junction with Colyton Road. Tomdhu - are you a geologist by any chance? Not that it makes any difference. I wouldn't mind having a job as a surveyer in the local area as the business is bound to boom for a while as people are undoubtably going to get their own surveys done. Fortunately I live the other side of the reservoir -
Are you the person who hit my car today in Sainsburys carpark?

Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Just get it fixed through your insurance - give > your insurer the number plate and they will chase > it up. Not quite as simple as that. We had an accident and even got the driver details but they were worthless as we did bit have his policy number - even though we shared the same insurers. The claim is still not settles since september because he never replied to the insurance company letters. He admitted at the time that it was his fault (did not give way at a junction) -

The second to > last paragraph says "Drivers too can benefit from > lower speeds". Yep, they've already made up their > mind. Having just been on a speed awareness course :-$ my eyes were opened to various rules and regulations that are technically beyond the control of the council. The way the system works, for example, is that you have to have repeater signs every so many yards in a 20mph zone. Thjis is because the 'national urban' speed limit is 30mph Only 25% of speed cameras have an actual camera in at any one time but they get moved around so even i you got flashed by a camera on one day and nothing happened does not mean you will always get away with it. 25% is not enough - this should be higher. In order to have a speed camera installed there has to be 3 KSI in 3 years (though this has just changed to 4 years). Whilst I don't necessarily want more cameras, I am sure we all know of parts of East Dulwich that may benefit. Banning cars if not realistic at present (though I agree would be good for Northcross Road) http://www.lscp.org.uk/?homepage

Friends of our have had there simple extension work held up for months as they have had to get permission from TW (due to the crap state of the current water/sewer system) -
I think we are lucky as my folks are in Southampton. They can only recycle plastic bottles and tin cans (apart from glass and paper). They do not know of any tetrapak recycling anywhere. At least southwark take other plastic like food trays, yoghurt pots etc.

Home Secretary on Ivydale Road

I have noticed that it is quieter on Limesford Road - not the 'rat run' that it used to be. I don't think it has anything to do with the police there but the roadworks that closed Ivydale and then Limesford. It IS safer walk up from Nunhead station during the week now (tu) -
Wore my furry Russian Ushanka hat on Tuesday at the footy. I may wear it tomorrow depending on how cold it is in the afternoon. Ushanka hat http://i22.ebayimg.com/01/i/001/1d/53/5999_2.JPG
