Consultation on 20mph zone across East Dulwich?
zephyr replied to Siduhe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A lot of Nunhead it a 20mph zone but even with humps and cushions it is ignored. Cars race up Ivydale, Inverton and Limesford Roads all the time. -
Fine for enterting no entry zone in Peckham (Lounged)

Sorry but it has been like that for years and is fairly obvious. I would probably understand if it was new but it isn't. Then again we all make mistakes - I got caught in Lewisham around Christmas turning right when not allowed 9though the sign was partly obscured by roadworks. -
Harris Academy (new boys school for East Dulwich)

2 things - I did not comment on the way the building is designed. Secondly, you last comment is awful and shows disrespect to many people with this difficult issue. I do not know you or your family so cannot comment on your situation. Dyspraxia has such a wide range of symptons from problems only with some fine motor skills (very common with dyslexics) to more marked motor or neurological issues. They often go togeher as dyslexics often have dyspraxic issues (of varying degrees). I did not mean to imply that they always go together. A sports academy may be the right place to some young people with dyspraxis - it will not suit everyone. What would you rather the Harris academy specialise in? I think in the current climate, sport is a good specialism. As far as where they do their sport - it really does not matter even Haberdasher Askes Knights Academy don't have grounds on site (neither do Askes at New Cross). We often had to travel to play sport in my day! I have posted here as I live in Nunhead rather than ED. A very bizarre thing happened over night. We collect almour recycling in one of those large blue Ikea bags which sits by our back door and then twice a week decant it into the recycle bag and plastic boxes outside. I did this last night and filled up the recycling bag so much I had to put it on its side and tread on it to get more in. Anyway I went out this moring and someone has nicked it! There is no way that it got blown away.I am trying hard to think of why anyone would nick other than to ransack it for identity theft reasons. I tend to shred most stuff with personal details apart from envelopes with names and addreses on (i.e. information that is fairky available anyway). Never happened before.

parking ticket on LL, ?120 ...

Inflation - a few years ago it was ?40 I got done turning right when I shouldn't have done - I should of appealed as I did not know and the sign was partly obscured by some road works that were going on at the same place. I got caught by a CCTV camera so they sent me pictures but also a very helpful leaflet telling all the other bad things that I 'could ' get done for. An example is encroaching on the cycle bit at traffic lights! -
Have you had tech support out as it sounds like a signal strength problem which should be easily rectified. The guys on chetnet are vey helpful, many of them are current or ex-ntl/virginmedia employees http://www.chetnet.co.uk/portal/ Tell them of you problem and they may have a solution for you.

depends upon what problems you are having. I will not got to SKY as I do not want to pay for a box that is out of warranty after a year and I would have to go to adsl broadband. I and on 20mb broadband (4 computers in the house so need the bandwidth). I very rarely hve problems with the broadband service (it does not suffer the distance to exchange issues that all other broadband suppliers have. The older TV boxes are a bit of a problem but have a V+ box now which is excellent. Always recording shows onto the box that I miss instead of having to fiddle about with the DVD recorder. Have you had tech support out - yes I know that calling India is a bit of a pain but that happens with most companies now

Exactly as I said. How > EXACTLY is it 'narrow minded' to say something > that is true, when people have no idea? Yes you are narrow minded as you do not seem to know about the services that it runs - please look at this link - Sunshine House quote - Sunshine House provides spec**list services to meet the needs of children and young people aged up to 19 years old in a child-centred and family friendly environment including * Children with spec**l educational needs and learning disabilities * Children with speech and language needs * Children with specific health needs (e.g. hearing impairment, HIV, chronic illness, post surgical care) * Children at risk of significant harm (e.g. physical, sexual and emotional abuse) * Looked after children (adopted and fostered). -unquote Dyslexia is a special educational need - I should know as two of my children have it as does my wife and my sister. Dyspraxia and dyslexia go together and are effectively part of the same thing. Didn't particularly want to argue about this but as we have attended there I thought it would be relevant. I have replaced certain letters with ** as there are certain words which contain a name of a well known drug (well known from spam anyway!) All in my own humble opinion of course. Edited to explain the ** -

Hi there I think you will find that Sunshine House is for children with a whole host of different special needs and that does include dyslexia as it can impact on a variety of different skills. One of my children is dyslexic and was referred there due to her dyspraxia (the two go together) - needing OT support etc. I think you will find that you are being a tad narrow minded. -

OK then, just to be fair, here is the website for the Alliance Against Urban 4x4s I emailed them yesterday and pointed out the mistake in teir letter to the Porsche MD and CEO. They are under he impression that this will only affect Band G cars however band G ony came about from March 2006. The I mentioned that the charge was for ALL cars registered after March 2001 with emissions of >225g/km which included the majority of MPVs and even some hatchbacks and saloons. They have replied saying they weill clarify with the GLA but think that it is sensible only to target Band G cars. Blimey even these Alliance people agree with me (I bet they own MPVs!)
-
sorry but the clangers were always my favourite Mind you, I quite liked Trumpton
-
I guess that the problem is that it is now being seen as an 'Emissions' charge and not a 'Congestion Charge'. All I think will happen is that more and more people will register their cars as private hire cars with the TFL Public carriage office) and pay a fixed amount (about ?80) for the year) I don't know if they still do it but Athens used to have a policy whereby cars were banned from the city on alternate days depending upon their registration numbers. If your reg had an even number then you could enter on certain days and not on others. There alternative was true for odd numbers. Now that sort of system would be funky for london!

Forgot to add that whenever I go into town during the week it is usually on my motorbike anyway which is exempt. I probably only take the car in once a year but it is the principle of how it is applied that I have an issue with.

Several points: I am not offended by the above posts including Sean's as I expected this sort of reaction from some forumites. Its not my petition I figured it would be a good topic for discussion It is safer to carry 6 people in a car designed for 6 people (or more in some cases) May be I should have kept my 2.4lt Toyota Previa that did 14mpg round town rather than upgrading to a more efficient car. My old gas guzzler is exempt from this increased charge. Of course it was our choice to have a larger than average family (I came from a large family) and I can afford a car. I will buy the safest/most economic I can afford and this one was it. I think the problem is that it has been fairly arbitarily set - it does not even keep in line with the Vehicle Excise Duty. My car is in band F whereas the 'gas guzzlers' are in band G Cars emitting >225g/km registered after 2006 Dulwichmum - I think you're great!

We have a 2002 VW Sharan which we need as we are a family of 6. It will be subject to the increased congestion charge of ?25 when it comes in as it is 5g/km over the 225g/km of CO2 emissions limit. Quite bizarrely cars like the BMW X5 and several other very large cars will not be subject to this charge. It will it a lot of 'family' cars. Porsche have started an online petition and is looking for a judicial review about this. We very very rarely drive into London but even so ?25 is ridiculous. You can check whether your car will be hit by this charge by looking it up (downloads area)here Other links http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7259368.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7242445.stm

Of course you do not even have to venture outside to get these sweets. I have used 'A Quarter of' to order traditional sweet for my office sweetie jar (bought 2kg). My work colleague remember most of the 'old' sweets so it was ideal for a bulk order. They will even supply in traditional paper bags if you specify. It has a larger range than H&G but of course you have to pay postage. Will still take the kids to H&G for a treats though so it will still get our patronage. (it even does Herbal Tablets though I don't know what brand)

Nearest is in Beckenham followed by Balham and St Katerines Docks depending on where in East Dulwich you are (I checked form my old SE22 postcode). Ocado.com delivers Waitrose produce.
-
The Guinness Marmite is only sold by Waitrose (and thus Ocado). Its origin was accidental really. The yeast is supplied to the Unilever (the makers) by particular breweries and from particular beers. A while ago the usual breweries could not supply the required yeast so Unilever turned to Guinness yeast. It does make a difference so it was marketed as such. It is more runny and different flavour than the usual stuff but is lovely. It was only meant to be temporary but was continued due to demand. The new version 'with champagne' is again a different flavour but is as firm as the usual stuff. I got mine from Sainsburys but I think it is widely available.

Certainly ebay warn against giving out your bank detail. Remember that the seller also has your address! Have they provided their bank details? If they have you can do a simple bank transfer (though it will cost you)
