Mugged (by the Gowlett on Amott Road)

I'm sorry to hear that. It's the main reason I never go that way at night on my own. It has always been a concern of mine. Its a bit isolated around there. DulwichFox -

I saw a programme about this recently on TV .. Could not remember why so had to Google:- Most captive conditions for shrimp cause inhibitions in females that prevent them from developing mature ovaries. Even in conditions where a given species will develop ovaries and spawn in captivity, use of eyestalk ablation increases total egg production and increases the percentage of females in a given population that will participate in reproduction. Once females have been subjected to eyestalk ablation, complete ovarian development often ensues within as little as 3 to 10 days. The most commonly accepted theory of why eye ablation reduces this inhibition is that a gonad inhibitory hormone (GIH) is produced in the neurosecretory complexes in the eyestalk The eye stalks are quite prominent so easy to remove :- http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/52/Woda-6_ubt.jpeg/250px-Woda-6_ubt.jpeg Full article :- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyestalk_ablation Foxy

New Conrad Shawcross sculptures arrive

Well the Orange netting does not add anything aesthetically ... Presumably it will be removed allowing access. Normally a piece of this type invites people to touch. This may also encourage small children to climb. That's what kids do.. Considering the rules and regulations surrounding purpose built Adventure Playgrounds I'm wondering if the same considerations should apply. Any usual Health & Safety issues have surely been ignored. DulwichFox I am genuinely concerned that a open park is not the best place to display these pieces. -

Nigello.. That is a ridiculous idea.. Can you imagine the outrage of people waiting for a bus only to see is fly pass with empty seat available. Its not just people getting on the bus, it's also people wishing to get off. It would mean bigger crowds at stops where buses do stop. Other Bus stops would not be used and eventually lost. The service would then be compromised. DulwichFox

People DO care about farm animals.. Many people are simply unaware of everything that goes on.. Like Prawns Crabs ?? Seafood Farms Well you may be shocked to find out (and I bet you did not know) Eyestalk Ablation. Eyestalk ablation is the removal of one (unilateral) or both (bilateral) eyestalks from a crustacean. It is routinely practiced on female shrimps (or prawns) in almost every marine shrimp maturation or reproduction facility in the world DulwichFox

Seabag Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Foxy > > You're ignoring the Elephant (leg) in the room > here Elephant Leg. ??? Do you mean D?ner ? From the Turkish verb D?nmek To Turn Well some are made on site. They are made mainly from Lamb Shoulder and arranged in Slices on the central upright of the grill. Some are produced in factories and have a smooth Pate appearance and may well contain chicken in it's makeup. Any question on the ethicality of the meat used needs to be addressed on an individual restaurant basis. Suggest you start your own thread if you wish to discuss Kebab meat. I'm sure it won't be the first one. DulwichFox -

Lowlander Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think more people eat battery chicken and eggs > than foie gras. > > If they knew how the chickens were treated, they > would think twice! > > Yet foie gras get all the attention! Yes and that is another subject for debate.. This thread was to purely highlight Heston's decision to take Foie Gras off his menus. There are already threads on Foie Gras. As far as I'm concerned in this thread the matter is over. DulwichFox -
How to Get Felt Tip Pen Off of Leather Leather is a natural material that comes from animal hides. Similar to other natural products, leather is porous and absorbent. When a felt tip pen stain ends up on your leather surface you must remove the stain from the surface as well as from the pores without causing the stain to spread further. By isolating the ink stain before you clean it, you can keep from making a bigger mess. Skill level:Moderate http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_7723631_felt-tip-pen-off-leather.html DulwichFox

Its a possibility / probability he will find another supplier.. After all, the name of his restaurant The Fat Duck is a bit of a give away. But Word has reached us that celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal has taken the ethical decision to remove foie-gras from all his menus ? both in the UK and Australia. This comes after years of campaigning by Viva! to educate chefs and the public about the way foie-gras is produced. Thank you to everyone who took the time to support the campaign! read the viva link And it had everything to do with the feeding process. yet another case of Selective reading... People are coming round to getting the point about Foie Grass.. It is Cruel. DulwichFox -
Celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal has dropped his supplier of foie gras after embarrassing footage of ducks being force-fed was released on the internet. The owner of the Michelin-starred Fat Duck restaurant in Bray, Berkshire dropped his French foie gras supplier due to animal rights concerns. A spokesman for the Fat Duck said: 'We were shocked at the video and the conditions in which the ducks were apparently being kept.' The restaurant said the farm had shown the highest levels of animal husbandry when they inspected it. http://www.viva.org.uk/victory-heston-says-au-revoir-foie-gras http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2872569/Heston-Blumenthal-drops-fois-gras-supplier-video-shows-ducks-treated-poorly.html Cant believe he was never aware of the cruel way Foie Gras was produced. But he's now done the right thing. Probably due to bad publicity and decent animal caring people boycotting places serving Foie gras DulwichFox

Linking up Nunhead, Peckham and ED ?? Why not walk. No place more than a mile away from the other. Walking is safer... just has healthy... and if you walk you can carry shopping... And it's FREE.. well it is at the moment until Southwark council brings out an App that uses GPS to measure how far we all walk and charges us all for wearing out the pavements. DulwichFox

I will deffo get and ride a bike if I have somewhere to keep it which doesn't involve climbing over it every time I open my front door :) Well Sue.. Do it. The Bicycle Hanger is planned for outside 52 . Not that far from you.. Six places available First come first serve for a small fee. I don't know what that fee would be. Perhaps just ?2.00 per day ?? ?60.00 per month . ?? I'm just guessing. So go for it.. get rid of your car . get fit and save money and the Planet. Foxy.

And the one in Peckham , Depford, Camberwell, Lewisham , Eltham , Bromley , Catford ?? And The Gaumont Peckham and The Astoria and the Regal Old Kent rd. The cinema in Forest Hill Capital ?? Because no one went to them any more. and they all went broke. That's just the ones I can name.. Not bad for someone who never goes to the cinema. The Cinema is very much a Cult thing these days.. It has a limited novelty value. Foxy

Mick Mac Wrote: > > Local businesses are reacting to the Cinema foxy. > I know the Palmerston is planning an early evening > pre-cinema fixed price meal. like a pre theatre. So how many people are actually going to go to a local cinema ? How often are they going to go ? How much is it going to cost ? I have not been to the Cinema for 37 years. Midnight Express. Apart from Sat Morning 'Flicks' at the Odeon Peckham when I was about 10, I probably have only been to the Cinema 10 - 15 times in my life. Is there going to be enough people to fill three screens every night. ?? I really don't know. DulwichFox
