The new Franco Manca looks good. Best make-over round these parts. Especially when you compare it to some of the other attempts of creating a dining experience, which are bit of an insult to its customers. D?cor and mismatch of tables and chairs. Almost tempted. lol Foxy.

I've tried a slice of pizza at The Actress . When it first opened.. ?3.00 per slice. It was bland tasteless undercooked and cold. Pretty nasty.
-
Just to put the record straight... I think the Franco Manca prices seem reasonable. Friends who have used the Brixton branch speak highly of the place and I trust their judgement. I simple do not much like cheese or tomatoes except when cooked in sauces such as curry. I simply do not like Pizza. I'm sure they will do well and wish them all the very best especially after they have done so much work to the place to overcome the previous problems with the design of the building. DulwichFox.

I have in fact reversed my diabetes. and now eat almost anything I want. It would of cause be silly to start eating things like donuts and the like. I'm fairly fit. Walk 5+ miles every day. Im 9 st 5lb. Curries are healthy.

The secret ingredient that turns nectar into honey is bee ?spit.? Chemicals in the bees? saliva help change the nectar into sugars. The nectar/saliva mixture is then stored in the beeswax comb by the workers. Source:- http://oklahoma4h.okstate.edu/aitc/lessons/extras/facts/honey.html DulwichFox

Mustard Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Why are there businesses selling logs for people > to burn in their ED wood burners in that case? Local businesses selling logs for people to burn in their ED wood burners are not responsible for where the logs will be burnt. Owners of Wood Burners are responsible to ensure that the devices they have are DEFRA approved. If not, they cannot be used and huge fines can be incurred if this is ignored. DulwichFox

They claim on their website their Pizzas are cooked in a wood burning oven. As I understand it wood burning ovens are not permitted in any smokeless zone. I believe a well established Pizza House somewhere in North London was forced to stop using theirs after decades of use. I think the one at The Actress is Gas ??? Is that right. ? Having said all that, these oven are supposed to take 2 weeks to reach operating temperature. So in reply to Louisa's post above, it would not be practical to just open at weekends. DulwichFox

Bar-B-Que's give off pollution and Carbon Monoxide.. Lets ban them as well. The only reasonable reason to ban fireworks is that they can be dangerous and people get injured especially when used in areas which are too small for some of the bigger fireworks available these days. Perhaps there needs to be a limit on their size. Its up to people to be sensible. Not reasonable to ban them just because you don't like them. They are used all over the world and millions of people love them. There are those amongst us who do not like to see other people enjoying themselves. Foxy

Before people start to get hysterical abot Foxes... A handful of incidents involving a Fox. There are dozens of incidents involving domestic dogs / pets that have bitten, savaged babies and even killed a child. Lets keep things in perspective. DulwichFox

The Display last year was the best ever. But then there was the usual 1/2 hour + to get out of the park. The charging policy may well reduce numbers attending. Although how will they stop people watching from the road. So might back-fire (see what I did there) on the authorities and cause more problems with the traffic. People may well turn up not realising it is paying event. I only knew by reading it on EDF. Could be chaos. DulwichFox

I think the general idea may of been to have a restaurant out the back and a bar area at the front for people waiting to be seated. Unfortunately for them not sure they ever had enough diners to warrant people waiting to be seated. The clinical front bar area was never going to attract drinkers. Even a few years back When it was The Mag or Magnolia ?? we held a Photography Group there. There was no atmosphere and we suggested that we could display our work there. Perhaps we could sell the work with the pub taking a small cut. There was never any interest. And back in the 70's it was a music/disco pub. It was made to look like a cave. Was a dump back there then. Was it run by the Vale Cherry Tree outfit ?? cant remember. It went through a phase in the 90's frequented by a little group of friends. Then There was the Cheese on Toast phase and that was the final nail. DulwichFox

How does one get a stall on North Cross Road Market?
DulwichFox replied to movingeast's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The problem is there IS no competition so anyone with a bit of clout and power of persuasion has a monopoly and can charge what they like. Any truly 'Local' trader starting out will have no chance. Jobs for the Boys I'm afraid. ;-) -

What we need is a War and Rationing. Then we would all queue for everything. And leave our street doors open till gone midnight.. And all sit 'round the piano down the pub and sing songs and drink Mild & Bitter. Foxy..
