I agree Lawrence, for a cake that has ready rolled icing on it and some ribbons does not warrant hundreds and hundreds of pounds, most of the flowers can be bought online and even if it is handmade, near a grand is not worth that price as apart from the flowers there is not much 'skill' involved. The ingredients probably are not organic either. I would never pay that price and ?100 for a train cake is shocking. Anne Marie made a train cake for Henry for ?35 or ?40. That is why generally I use Ceri as she does not charge a high price just because she can, her prices are realistic ( as is Anne Marie from Constance Cakes) and it tastes good and looks good. Not tried the others. I did order my two cakes from Newell, they did taste nice, but I still cannot understand why her wedding cakes are so much money as the cakes though nice, were not exceptional, or extra special. Ceri's cakes on the other hands are visually stunning, and the taste is gorgeous! Anne Marie cakes are lovely also. I know there are a few other mums making cakes so I will have to give them a go also. I just have issues with someone from Newell Occasions pretending to be someone else recommending their cakes on here, rather than following the lead of Ceri and Anne Marie and posting as themselves.

I found out about them on Yell.com and the company which is based in Dulwich and it's called 'Newell Occasions'. They are primarily an Events Management company but they also supply Wedding and Celebration cakes to which ever design you wish. I went to collect my cake and found that it is only a small company which is run from the owners apartment. The building itself is a little off putting,(the one that looks like a ship) but the apartment of which the business operates from was emaculate!! 8 months old baby check is at the clinic, you just pop in with your red book around 8 months and the health visitor check baby over, I went to my GP for my son's 8 months check though.

Its entirely up to you, some mums like to go to all appointments and the clinic, some don't. I have only attended my clinic once, and didn't go to the hearing appointment. I see my GP if I have any concerns.

Oh and my baby was not tested for his hearing either, and I had a hospital birth.

I never bothered go for the hearing test for my son as it is pretty obvious my son can hear, plus just because you have the hearing test now does not mean that they won't suffer from hearing loss in the future, I got ill around the age of 3 I think, and it affected the nerves of my ear, so I suffered from some hearing loss despite hearing perfectly from birth onwards. I think you will know when you baby is not hearing as she should in which case you would just ask your GP for a referral. You do not 'have' to attend.

Huggies and Pampers leave lots of beads all over my son's skin and gives him a very red sore bottom. I have to use Moltex now as I daren't risk any other nappies.

Yep, I have a Turkish friend and her name is Ayse ( can be spelt Ayca, Aisha, etc)and they do sound like 'Esher'. That is a nice shiny penny Mockney!:))

I have a mummy friend who is from New Zealand and I know she would be interested in meeting up. She has daughter who is a year old. She goes to Ivydale drop in on Mondays plus we will be attending sparkle music after the holidays. I usually do nannying but have my own soon to be one year old boy so I don't mind meeting up with you also if you are in Dulwich. As a nanny I understand how lonely it can be if you do not have friends in the area and it is quite hard to make news friends as everyone does tend to be in their own little groups. It sounds like it is a mixed bag, for every person that likes a place, another person is against it. I did actually fill in an enquiry form a while back on the Herne website as well as emailing them but they never got back to me ( which I thought was rude)but I will contact them again . I have had a look at Dulwich Wood's online and they look fabulous, I am just worried about the food as I have yet to hear one person say the food is worth going for. The Magnolia would have been perfect but alas they only hire Monday to Thursday. I don't really have enough people to hire out a community centre and I won't be having an entertainer so I don't feel I can hire the community centre ( I am sure I will be using it often when my son is older!). No more decent/child friendly pubs in the area?!

Cats like to curl up somewhere warm, usually on the bed near their owners if they can hence the worry about cats getting in cots/prams etc to curl up next to baby's warmth, the danger is suffocation in case it smothers baby. My cat and my sister's cat like to sleep next to someone, usually by their heads so as a result the cat and kids are never left alone.

Thanks for the replies ladies. I did hear the Herne was very good but I checked the menu online and my son cannot have dairy so cheese on pasta would not be good and I don't really want to give him chips and chicken on a special day either, I was hoping for things like fish and pasta etc. Does anyone know if they will do a different menu if we ask? The Dulwich Wood house has been slated on here, I have never been, it does look good but as a lot of people do not rate it, I crossed it off my list. Is the food nice there?

My son will be celebrating his first birthday on a Sunday and getting baptised on the day also. Does anyone know of any kids friendly places to hire on a Sunday? The Magnolia does not hire out their function room on a Sunday. There is roughly going to be about 15-20 adults and 7 children maximum. I need floor space for my son to crawl/toddle about. Thank you in advance for all your help.

It ok I won't lie but I will be honest because he has come out in rashes from cereals, so it could be a number of things. Since I have some allergies, they probably will test him for some other things other than dairy. At least I hope so. An epi pen? poor love, that is some serious allergy!

Amy, a potato allergy?! Never heard of that, poor Daniel! It is reassuring to hear that even though he handles butter on toast like my little man, he still has a dairy allergy. How will you be weaning Daniel off the breast? I am still breastfeeding at nearly a year old as my son likes to drink and he is not happy with just getting his calcium in food, he wants a feed in the morning and evening, orange juice with added calcium is not cutting it. I am not going to try soya yet as I get bad stomach pains with soya so I don't want to try it on him, plus all the horror stories about hormones in Soya has put me off. Woof, glad to hear your kids are ok now, I have no doubts ours will be also. Mrs T, I keep wanting to give my son peanut butter too but won;t for fear of an allergy reaction so I think I will wait as you did and have the test first. Least you now know what he can and cannot have. Just two more months and I will find out also, least I can then plan his diet around his allergies once it is confirmed.

I posted a while ago about our cat who pees for years in our hallway. We tried everything or so we throught but after a few advice on here we finally after years of him peeing, solved the problem! We had his cat litter in the kitchen, we realised it was a bit too busy for him in there and not private so we put the cat litter in the hallway where he pees. We also removes all the mats/carpets. We put a bowl of food there also. And we found washing the floor with washing detergent ( the non bio one) works, anything with ammonia makes them pee more so they say, so bold washing detergent does the job. Its not nice so I hope you manage to get it sorted, we were embarrassed about people coming into our home because of the stench but thankfully the house is nice and fresh now!

The quinny zap is supposed to be compact, my sister had one, but I dont really like three wheelers.
