Whilst instinctively I'm against this I already have a government ID, pay my taxes through this, renew my passport and driving licence. Polling suggests a slight majority will support this It would be good to get views on the concept rather than the politics. Let's see how long that lasts! We can talk the politics at the Forum drinks.

Forgot and went to the pictures. Apparently higher up I. The area it was pretty impressive.

Which is the perfect example of why a number of you have it wrong in treating all cyclists the same. We are not a uniform group A youth may be very different to a commuter, in turn a leisure cyclist, a Deliveroo rider in a hurry to deliver due to the awful zero hours model*, and a full on electric 30mph cgaf (work that out for yourself). If you could get your head around that rather than demonise all cyclists, and what the solutions are available to improve behaviours we could have and informed debate. I've said all this before but people just return to the same old entrenched views *Wrote to Ellie today asking for delivery riders to be PAYE -
"So much for TfL's "every journey matters" slogan, I don't think so." Saying that is how most people will interpret what you say. And just to endorse this "but then no level of inconvenience matters to TfL " What have TfL (and the Romans) ever done for us? What is your alternative model for running our public transport? Other metropolitan regions such as TfGM have delivered many benefits since working across the area such as contactless payments. Unless your memory is short you may recall the revolution that Oyster and then contactless payments that TfL introduced.

I didn't raise e bikes on this thread. You perpetuated the common view that all e bikes are the same as pedal bikes. Two of us corrected you. Rather than say 'fair enough' you then turn to your usual narrative of a cyclists lobby etc. If you don't post factually incorrect stuff the I would have no need to post correcting this. Edited: yes this is tedious but factually incorrect stuff does need to be challenged. -
What's poo? Do explain why you hate this area.

Good idea for a theme park. Obviously that would be in bad taste. Although you can do the Jack the Ripper, Kray twins and no doubt other tours in London. Surely there are mobile/vape shops too

Kramer is great, met her a couple of times. Told her the story of when she ran for Mayor and didn't attend a community event as she didn't want to spoil Ken (Livingstone)'s love in. Amused me and her no doubt

Large supermarkets, the big shop, not relying on mum getting the bus into town, longer opening hours, end of price controls and other restrictions. All affected the high street well before the internet. Rye Lane is still pretty buzzy. Loads of independent shops. Modern life is not always rubbish

I'm talking about parts of the country economically deprived, some that never recovered from the loss of traditional industries. But in your point, yes, there are those that are never happy. We should be reasonably happy in this area.

We've all noticed how once grotty town centres have improved and gentrified over the last decade or so, Deptford, Peckham, Honor Oak, Brockley. Just count the bars and coffee shops. Catford is going that way and Lewisham and Forest Hill next. We are in an affluent area, and the above is more relevant to forgotten towns and areas.

You raised e bikes not me. Beyond some discussion about changing the regs for cyclists I don't find this thread of any interest. -

Do you not take on board what others post just because they don't agree with you? Illegal 'e bikes' have been discussed numerous times on this forum. Here is the definition again: "in the UK, an electric bike (e-bike) that doesn't meet the Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC) regulations is legally classified as a moped or motorcycle. This occurs if the e-bike's motor provides assistance above 15.5 mph (25 km/h), has a maximum power output over 250 watts, or has a throttle that can be used without pedaling. " A Lime bike is a bike or an electrically assisted pedal bike. Pretty clear. -

Illegal e bikes are not bicycles. They essentially are motor bikes. The GLA report I attached had recommendations for addressing this increasing hazard too. -
Are we now under a flight path?

So what you are saying is that you only fly on quiet planes, would never do the red eye back from the US and the like? -
I was surprised to hear from the POTUS that London will be adopting Sharia Law. And how bad London, and the rest of the country, has become.

Cheers Ex, as said we've discussed much of this before. Local authorities would like to partially decriminalise speeding and other offences, so that they gather the revenue and as such could invest more on road safety etc. Whilst not restricted to motor vehicles, rightly far more drivers would get done which would help to get the behaviour change we need, There's some useful reading on this here: https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2025-07/Changing the narrative_Caroline Russell.pdf This would help reduce the numbers of those killed or seriously injured on our roads each year (in London 100 plus and 3000 plus respectively). Which we will all agree is a good thing (sorry for the font change not sure why). -
Why would as anyone want to vote Reform. OTT by Davey but why ate you saying it was disastrous? Just catching up on Newsnight and they are having an adult conversation on this

Yes very tactfully put. It irritated me and as with upper case comes across as shouting. I'll be a bit more direct in future 😄 -
Back to my earlier post about familiarity. I was in Croydon this afternoon walking between the two main stations. Didn't feel unsafe, but there were some 'interesting' characters on the street. Not that any were bothered with me. Not a place I'd choose to go for a bit of a fun. Although having said that West Croydon has some cracking restaurants and the wonderfully named Saints and Sinners bar, where I once went on a corporate do - not that I did many of these. Whoops just checked and it closed a few months ago. Back on track, I never went to the Castle as I felt it was a bit rough. How wrong was I? Only real pub left in the area.

Campaigns must be aimed at all road users encouraging sharing of the road. US VS THEM IS NOT HELPFUL Used uc not to shout but make a point that UC is wrong in social media. It's not me being the internet police just polite etiquette @Rockets why are you again promoting an anti cycling thread. As a cyclist wouldn't it be better to share the joys? -
Familiarity is important, I lived near Brixton in the old days and was fairly comfortable, but for many years avoided Peckham. That has reversed in the last 15 years. I recall around Dalston and the A10 and burned out cars. Now super trendy. Pub violence has largely gone but that was groups of men getting drunk on Saturday night and brawling. Similarly little football violence, East Dulwich/West Peckham was edgy last century.
