  1. I was there yesteday, very noisy with people sitting in the aisles so you couldn't get at the shelves. Apart from stopping borrowers finding books, surely this is against Health and Safety? Was in my day. And yes, they're back to their old practices of having more books piled up that on the shelves. 5 trollies full of books, at least 4 bins overflowing and books just piled up around the terminals. If we can't find the books, we can't borrow them!!! And sorry to hear about the troubles. Being a librarian is not the nice quiet job you see on the TV. It's easier to control if you don't let the situations develop, may I say Lynne
  2. Contact Council. if it'd professional builders they're limited in their hours - no Saturday afternoons and I think not Sundays. Lynne

  4. I agree, nice and light and easy to use. But I can't see that the actual stock, which is after all why we go, has improved Lynne

  8. Perhaps they will be able to spend some time actually shelving the returned books. My record is 7 trollies full, almost as many as actually on the shelves Lynne
  9. I agree, maxxi, that you often feel that you're invisible. Perhaps self service will be quicker if that's all the service you need, but people will still be losing their jobs, I imagine Lynne
  10. Does anyone really think that self service terminals are there for the benefit of the public? They're just there so staff levels can be reduced Lynne
  11. Is there anyone who could tell me about the current state of the east Dulwich Society? I don't think it's there to fund the 2013 fair,by the sound of it, unless it agrees to. Lynne
  12. Would you like to tell us a bit more about the East Dulwich Society? Your entry, though informative up to a point, was a little lacking in details For instance, does it have any connection with the east Dulwich Society of a few years ago? Lynne
  13. I once saw a rat in Sainbury's car park. As I thought a food retailer might want to know I told the woman at the Customer desk. "Oh yes, " she said " I often see them when I come in early", Ah, I thought Lynne
  14. Our door bell connects to a neighbour's bell too Lynne

  16. A woman had had her purse stolen when I was there last week. A man was hiding behind the recycling bins but I think he was just trying to get things out of the electrical bin Lynne

  19. Thanks, Lameduck. Next time I'm worried, I'll just call "Lameduck to the rescue" and the police will take me away instead Lynne
  20. It must be wonderful to be so righteous. Personally, if anyone, clearly deranged, started shouting abuse at me, as a female pensioner I would be extremely glad to see a policeman, because I very much doubt that anyone else would come to my help. My sympathies for the other person would come some way behind my fright. Obviously I am the only person in ED who feels like this. Lynnee
