Surely you mean Pedantry Award? Otherwise it would be an award given by one pedant; or if it were Pedants' Award by a panel of pedants (or a 'huff' of pedants).

Wow - you really do have delusions of potency. She might get a state funeral if the govt. of the day thought it would be good for them, she would be thrown into a ditch if that helped the govt. more. Fact is she is so near the age/death of HMQ that the powers-that-be are holding everything back until She goes - there will be nothing left to spare for a forgotten politician.

Assumed it was after the Paul Newman film 'Harper' where he plays Lew Harper P.I. hired by Lauren Bacall to find missing hubby - well Posh loves a kidnap drama. ETA: UK title The Moving Target

You can buy them by the bushel or quart from a small grocers in Ottery St Mary but that is 173mm at least so try putting a row of fresh ravis out in the sun (tails towards the wind of course and innards extracted with a thretching spoon) or on a very low heat in a domestic oven/by a fan heater.

This, I think, is probably true. It may be preceded by a number of 'Special Editions' celebrating the NOTW's long history before a new investor, Murdert Rupoch or somebody, will 'give the paper back to the people'.

Well 'albert' - registered at 2.14pm today and dishing out the insults by 2.26pm. What took you so long you multi-faceted old bore? Are you on medication? I only ask because I am worried about your blood pressure. For future reference my socks are already up to my knees and are NEVER allowed to droop, my plastic crown is a treasured childhood artifact from a nativity play in which I played Caspar and my whistle is of the swanee variety (a piston flute to you) and capable of infinite variety. I hope this helps you to deal with whatever demons are assailing you at this precise moment and that you find the Trojan Queen you are looking for. NO Nette - down! No one is talking about you.

"the problem with cats is that their numbers have increased dramatically because people have acquired them in large quantities and let them roam and destroy a varied habitat." What habitat is that exactly? The man-made habitat of suburbia? If you look at the decline in UK birds numbers it is mainly down to changes in farming practices, loss of suitable nesting sites and climate - and that most of the birds affected are from rural and woodland areas. Cats do not enter the picture in any significant way at all and the point I was making was a general one about predator and prey. The RSPB puts it better: "Despite the large numbers of birds killed, there is no scientific evidence that predation by cats in gardens is having any impact on bird populations UK-wide. This may be surprising, but many millions of birds die naturally every year, mainly through starvation, disease, or other forms of predation. There is evidence that cats tend to take weak or sickly birds."

A friend of mine was working up in the highlands and visited a shop selling kilts and higland 'gear' as he wanted to buy himself a pair of brogues. On completing his purchase the proprietor said to him: Prop: (In best higland accent) Will sir be taking a kilt with those? Friend: No, (nervous smile) no I don't think so. Prop: Och don't be put off by the effeminate types that come up from the south for the country dancing! His implication being that it takes a real man to weear a kilt. [True story and friend insists he really did say 'Och'.]

I can hear Murdoch in the distance... "Mwah-hah-hahhh!" -
If that many birds are killed then it is because they were the weakest in their group and - like the wildebeest brought down by the lion - their loss strengthens the gene pool. We all adore a chirpy tit Long tailed blue or great; But surely any stupid tit Should be consigned to fate. [Expurgated chapter from: Birds of Britain, J.L. Bonhote, 1907.]

I am going to miss demolishing the old eggs and b whilst reading of vicars and strippers and naughty cricketers so am wondering what will fill the void. So far suggestions have been obvious and related to the sister paper and the recent purchase of domain names so Sun on Sunday and Sunday Sun or just Sunday are out there as are Sunday World and Sunday News but there are defunct sunday names that could be resurrected like: News on Sunday, Sunday Chronicle,?Sunday Correspondent, Sunday Dispatch, Sunday Graphic, Sunday Illustrated, Sunday Referee, Sunday Sportsman, Sunday Worker. Any original suggestions? The Sunday Hacker? - too obvious... Sunday Snoop?... too Wodehouse... Suggestions on a postcard please (or just left on your own voicemail) to Wapping by Sunday next.
