@james thanks for the budget figures and it would be great to see a breakdown in the non-staffing costs. According to the figures, Canada Water has an income of ?308,000 and wonder if you could shed further light. @fuschia, renata, The main point I was trying to make was the attendance figures were hit and miss. It was the same point John Gorsuch made at the Nunhead library consultation.

There are lots of good quality freeware on the internet internet so no need to hand over hard earned cash to MS. i hope you don't suffer buyer's remorse in relation to the laptop, PR. -
@katie1997 I've seen what Quids had written but changed his mind later. So I can safely discount your observation. Bearing in mind that your little joke turned out to be a damp squib I would imagine the rest of your observations about me would not hold up to scrutiny in the future. So get your digs in while you can. @kleinhond, so you picked up a little typo error in one of my posts. so what? are you really that bored? Not enough work (banning) at Nunhead Forum? I don't use a spell checker and there'll certainly be other typos/spelling errors in future postings.

Thanks george, I may have to factor in your thoughts when I'm thinking about the Guardian. To be fair, I hate all newspapers, but you're absolutely right.

@acm, From what I recall, AMD is aiming their processors at the lower end of laptop market. So paying silly money for an overspecced computer sounds like a bargain. The long battery life is really is the deal killer as you don't have to lug about the power supply brick, thus saving carrying extra weight. Tomshardware and Corsairs have produced articles giving the case for using 8GB RAM in systems. No doubt, SSDs also give a HUGE performance boost to systems. Anyway, acm, I've already specced my next computer, now waiting for the parts to be released on the open market. I don't think PR will go for the AMD Llanos in any case. Mainly because not a lot of people knows about it. -
@dukesdener, You're absolutely right, also the attendance figures are hit and miss as they are based on RFID readings. So if you had your library card on you and went backwards/forwards by the RFID readers then it could register several visits. The library finance figures really needs to be published. At the Nunhead library consultation, they said the income for the libraries was ?300k in total (all sources). Now compared that to Cllr Barber's figure of ?500k shown earlier in this thread. I'm not saying he has intentionally misled us, but I feel he was a victim of misinformation by Southwark's information highway.

MM, If you were to re-examine your previous posts then perhaps you could understand why I thought you were part of the right wing group. In your two identical posts, though one has now been edited, I felt insulted when you suggested I made things up as I go along. Not exactly a great start to informed debate is it now. With the Hutton report, if you look at the 2050/60 GDP figure it's broadly similar to the figure given in the NAO 2010 pensions report (0.3% difference), it could be argued that public sector pensions are affordable. I also standby with my other statement that Public sector pay have always lagged behind that in the Private sector in similar jobs historically. You might not agree with my observations but they are not certainly made up. As I said previously, I think there are some great people on the forum but felt there was a tiny minority trying to rid me off the forum. I certainly don't think the right wing sympathisers are the large majority here. Judging by PMs received, discussions with other individuals on the forum and in person, there is a clear case for thinking there is a right wing group ruling the roost. However, ever since Huguenot has disappeared, tensions have eased. From what I've heard, Huguenot, responded to posts by giving a distorted answers and facts while at the same time leaving a boot in. Hardly a good example on good discussion on this forum. Apparently he has been getting away with this for a long time and generally targets newcomers like myself. When I gave Huguenot a taste of his own medicine I then got a message from Mark saying not to use an antagonistic tone towards him. It was then I decided to report Huguenot posts to see if there was a fairness on the forum and the Chair soon appeared. Your previous messages, appeared similar in style to Huguenot's, and so I felt the neeed to ask whether you were him. Huguenot's behaviour does leaves a lot to be desired and I do understand why you felt insulted and wished to distance yourself away from him. In this situation I give my sincerest apology. Lastly, my main reasons for signing up to local forums were participating more in local politics (and how central government policies filtered down) and to learn more about my local area. I do not define myself according to what newspapers I read, what brands of clothes I buy, what supermarkets I shop in, what area I live in or what political groups I'm affiliated to. I've always done what I think is right based on informed choices which does not need an advertising executive, newspaper jornalist or politicians telling me what to do. I'm not even a leftie. Sorry to disappoint the righties. I am all for good debate and in some cases I have modified my thinking as result of reasoned discussions. UDT

Hang on PR, the latest AMD mobile processor, code name Llano, should be out shortly. It's a very energy efficient processor with built in graphics capability (Directx11), has the most bang for the buck, and best of all their laptops would have an up to 10 hour battery charge. Now if you can get this to go with 8gb ram (memory is very cheap these days, ensures a zippy system) and SSD then you have an ultra fast pc without hardly any lagging issues. So fast that you could use your system in 20seconds from switching on. -
I don't get the joke either, Katie. I merely asked a question about the two forumites. Hardly a statement is it? But as the right wingers are losing their iron grip on the EDF it seems they are now scraping the barrel to score political points and even jokes. B)

What I found interesting about the East Dulwich Forum is that you have a group of people spouting right wing propaganda. Mamora Man, is your other alias Huguenot? Anyway here are my following points, 1) using only one month's stat to support your argument on the difference in pay between private & public sector is very misleading, marmora. Why not use the last 25 years stats and you should see the difference in public sector pay lagging behind private sector? 2) it is not fair for the public sector to pay the price for screw ups in the private sector such as the ones created by the banking sector. 3) It was policies supported by the right wing that has caused the financial mess in the UK. I shall copy the post to PS pensions thread and carry forward discussions there.

@marmora man, The thread is about whether our children will fund our retirement and I made my answer accordingly. Are you seriously saying the issues relating to public sector pensions, and in particular the Hutton report, would remain unresolved in the future? In answer to your following questions. a. Is it fair that a private sector employee has to save 20% of their salary to provide a reasonable pension for their future? Private sector employees made their choice on the packages that was available to them when they entered into employment. If they thought their compensations for work was unfair then why enter into the private sector? b. Is it fair that they should also pay an additional ?1,000 a year in tax to pay for some else's public sector pension to which they (the public sector employee) only pays in 3% of salary? Yes, because over the years the public sector pay lagged well below private sector pay. It would cost the tax payer a lot more money if public sector pay matched the private sector. -

Well if the Hutton's report says Public pensions are affordable then I think this thread is a non debate. Moving on to the real world, the debate should be why some UK companies refuses to pay their fair share taxation which results in shifting the tax burden on workers. Is this fair? -

Lately I've been a good boy and acted with probity on the forum. My biggest regret was not joining the forum sooner as there seems to be loads of activities going on. Flushing out m&s shoppers and Guardian readers was a good idea as they don't have NOTHING to offer in terms of extending my knowledge. I know some people have difficuly with this issue but in time they will accept it as fact. I've done it before and I can certainly do it again.

No, I don't indulge in multiple accounts unlike some.

I think I've been to the same shop once a long time ago after seeing an ad on a lamp-post for cheap jeans. Huge amount of porn magazines in back room. It was a black guy who was running the shop. He seemed very persistant to measure my inside leg so I've made my excuses and left.

Highly recommend zen. I've been with them since 2003. I used to have cable since 1991 but got fed up with ntl and ridded them in 2004. Glad I've made that decision as, judging by the thread content, the company has never changed. Woeful service in 2004, woeful service in 2011. NTL customer services has probably aged me. -
Maxxi, as with anything financial there should be a cost/benefit analysis or roi. If the analysis shows there's a need for a lollipop person to be present at the Lordship Lane crossing near Iceland then why not? For me, removing the Lollipop personnel didn't make financial sense at all. Even if you did scrap them, they could end up claiming unemployment benefit and this would offset some of the savings made. @civilservant, No one knows the true situation since Southwark tend to keep information close to their chest. It's as if open government doesn't apply to them.
