  1. @fuschia, I fail to see where I was rude, aggressive or lacking civility towards you. I place the safety of children above whether I'm right or wrong. I think you should do the same and leave whatever personal feelings, though unwarranted, you have towards me to one side. Especially after Cllr Barber had released information on how the lollipop personnel are funded and so the debate should move on. From this point trying to continue with your own agenda is immaterial I'm afraid. People who knows me takes me seriously. Nor do I feel the need to prove myself to you. UDT
  2. @fuschia, I tend to think hollistically rather than just taking a small minded approach. I've made clear in my last post that there are still some ring fenced funding given by central government. Can I ask you which part of my previous post you didn't understand?
  3. Some libraries in London offers ebooks already. Just sign up as you don't need to be a resident in their borough. The main advantages with ebooks are 1) that they cannot be stolen or damaged 2) doesn't require costly buildings and staff 3) offers convenience to the public 4) longevity (no detrimental changes with age as in normal books) 5) download from any elibraries in London

I do understand the Council having to make tough choice due to cuts in their funding from central government but it appears the funding for lollipop personnel is not from central government or from our council tax. Lets us not turn this thread into a class war. There is no need for it and certainly doesn't help the case for lollipop people.
  5. I've pm'd Mark last week but the message remains unread. When I used 'report this message function' I thought at first they would go to the admin but after checking the Chair's message above I then concluded they would have gone to the Chair instead. Who is the current Chair? I also like to make clear that I have no reason to lie and I feel there were attempts by a small minority to force me off the forum. I've met some great people in person during my short time on the forum and would like to extend my thanks to those who have supported me.

The idea was to allow the LAs greater flexibility in tackling their own priorities rather than central government's. When Eric Pickles became SoS for DCLG last year he scrapped the LAAs that came with negotiated targets beween central and local governments. There are probably some ring fenced funding but I'm afraid my memory has failed me from recalling such information two years ago.
  7. Hi James, Good consultation requires good information but as you know this was all explained in the Tim Coates video and in particular in his recommendation number two. In the first video link Somerset County Council has a lower budget than Southwark Council by over ?1m but has generated an average of ?1.1m, ?600k more than Southwark. Obviously Southwark does not need to make cuts if they matched the income generated by Somerset County Council. The breakdown in the requested figures should give an idea where the income is coming from. I'm also particularly interested to know why it amazes you to obtain a breakdown of the ?500k. Hi Peter, I suspect the council has made their decision in secret and is just running an exercise which tick the box for public consultation before swinging the axe. Most of the questions were geared towards reducing services and hardly none were about reviewing back office functions and income generation. It's a shame because I think Southwark Council has the lost the opportunity to make sure money has been well spent and put in place a sustainable library operating model.

  9. With the Canada Water library being less than a few minutes away from Canary Wharf on the tube, they could possibly, assuming the hall is large enough, run corporate events. I've organised corporate events in the past and fees were around ?9000 per day. And that was five years ago. James - can we have the income generated ?500k broken down to its components please?
  10. Thanks for clearing up the matter SJ.

  13. I sent quite a few through the "report this message". So I'm shocked to hear you saying this. Also sent PMs to Mark.
  14. I believe VM mobile uses the same network as Orange/Tmobile and might be worth asking those customers for feedback.
  15. On my way to Decathlon I went past the Canada Water library site yesterday and was impressed by the building. I hope Southwark would continue to build stunning buildings like the Michael Faraday Primary School while taking care of its older but equally great buildings.
  16. I guess it depends on how you define the parameters.
  17. Yes, the PS job cutting programme does unfairly impact on the female gender and concur with your observation.
  18. I used to work for a female manager who earnt a lot more than her male line manager.

  20. As SSH has rightfully pointed out that I was a victim subjected to abuse by a few people. I also sent several pm to the Chair yesterday.
  21. This really sucks. 50k is such a small sum of money in government terms.
  22. Three other points: 1) The public sector have policies that embraces work-life balance while the private sector is playing catch-up 2) Private Sector, I've been told, has a macho orientated approach where it's all about working long hours 3) The Civil Service have a disproportionate ethnicity representation in the lower grades
  23. This reminds me when Shirley Brown, Barbara Mason, Richard 'Dimples' Field, and Betty Wright all traded blows. Is there a soul thread?
