  1. Heard this too. Will report it.
  2. I really do not think a tram would revitalise Peckham. It sounds like it should, especially when the accompanied by lower case exclamatory words like 'revive', 'vibrant', 'diversity', 'bustling' and, er 'tram', and by pie charts and smiling faces, but it wouldn't.

If you didn't have a license fee, you wouldn't have as much good output - radio, tv, online, - community services, specialised channels, educational support etc - as you do today. I agree that money should be spent more wisely within the BBC, but please, do think before you flush the baby out with the bath water. The BBC is unrivalled and once gone will never be replicated. Do you really, really think that non-public service broadcasters would produce output as good as that produced currently by the BBC, on all its platforms?

'Up to ?46,000' is the key phrase, as Mr McG has pointed out. Is it likely that a newspaper such as the Daily Mail will ever say anything complemetary about the BBC and its finances? Please read between the lines and not just the heads!
  5. Please don't be too hard on the clowns. They have it really bad, you know. I am not supporting their behaviour, but there's nothing for them to do, you know. They can't get jobs, have to deal with their afflictions (size 17 feet, bright red noses and those rictus grins) and feel alienated. Have a heart, Snorky (or if not, at least a squirty flower).
  6. Plesae report this to the BMA and copy a letter to your MP. The doctor in question sounds callous and ill-informed, though, thankfully, not representative of the majority of NHS workers I have encountered. By reporting his misdemeanours you will hopefully prevent other people from being treated so shabbily, and you'll be able to take heart from the fact that even in your depressed state you are doing something worthwhile and positive.
  7. At Alleyn's the fireworks went off
  8. I got a very apologetic letter today from Alleyn's headmaster. It was sincere (and well constructed!) and for those two reasoons I accept it. I suggest to all the Alleyn's supporters who, for whatever reason, attach themselves to closely to the aforesaid institution that his contrition, humility and all-round good-eggness should serve as an example to them.
  9. I think a guest swim is ?8 or so. Whether that includes the gym I don't know. I'd liek to use the pool, but since I am in ESPH, I don't need the gym aspect. I rang and asked whether they'd consider lowering the price for just a swim, but the response I got was an uninterested 'no'.
  10. Idea - why not speak to the management at Jags sports club about these problems, then report back?
  11. It has nothing to do with the fact that mostly Alleyns is a good neighbour - that is the least that can be expected. All it needed to do was to think a bit beyond its own backyard, and this debate will ensure it will do that in the future. Fireworks and music are great, but not when they are enforced on people at an unsuitable hour. Those who are complaining are within their rights, and Judge Judy or another right minded individual would very probably agree with them!
  12. I count an apology as an apology. Obviously, you have issues Townleygreen that only a registered psychotherapist can deal with. I deserve an apology because Alleyns thoughtlessly disturbed my rest time, and the school's representative I talked to acknowledged a degree of wrongdoing. When Alleyns gives me an apology, I will be satisfied and wish it well and thank it for its contrition. You, it seems, feel threatened in some way by people's righteous indignation at this disturbance, and too much identify yourself with the institution. It's rather sad.
  13. Just spoke to the headmaster's secretary. She says he will be writing to me to apologise. I am glad all had a good time, and am please that the theatre will be a good asset to them, but I would expect much more civility and a politeness from an institution as celebrated as Alleyns is.
  14. It looks really big, the space in question. Will it all be Co-op/Somerfield?
  15. Lance Corporal Johnson Beharry, speaking on Today and interviewed by the Independent, happens to live in SE22. News to me. Link to BBC Online
  16. Could there be, administrator, a place where we could do a 'top ten' of fave, most trusted tradespeople? I know that when I search for, say, decorators, the same name comes up.
  17. I would take advice directly from your GP and get him/her to refer you to a dietician. In the meantime, regular exercise, cutting back on empty sugars and starches such as white bread, cakes, biscuits, chocolate and alcohol and good sleep is what I would recommend. I wouldn't ditch everything, though, but if you are very keen on the booze and the chips and the cakes, then really cut back. I read some research that said that it is possible to get your body to readjust its reaction to insulin, which spkes when sugary foods are broke down, through short bursts of intensive exercise.

    Wormery

If you do get one, buy one with at least two layers. That way, the worms moved down and the compost is on the top. Wiggly Wigglers or wormery.co.uk
  19. The BBC did a report on this. I think it was on the Today programme before Christmas. It might be worth a search if you are interested. The doctors said they did not make money from the service.
  20. There is a Wetwang in Yorkshire.
  21. It's the one near to the Vale pub. It looks empty and closed, unless it's having a refit. Anyone know anything else? (*Where will Louisa get her shampoo and set*?)

    frogs

I had a frog on my front doorstep about seven years ago. I think they try very hard to get back to where they've laid their eggs in the past. No idea why it thougth my door was on such a route. It is getting to the spawning time. Where was it exactly in ED?
  23. Moos, well said.
